All these compositions from the golden era of Genesis are able to give us pleasure and interest after hundreds, thousands of listenings : this is a proof of their great value, of their thickness. You dig it and it's perfect, including the singing, which is not the easiest part. Thumbs up for Genesis and for you.
I'd love to know why one person gave this a thumbs down. Great job as usual my friend! I have the Italian book with this & will compare this to it, yours appears to be a more elaborate transcription. Thank you!
Glad to've been of help 👍 As I allude to in the PDF notes, in bars 48-56 Tony actually plays (on organ with '2nd percussion' turned on) just the lower two notes of those 'power' chords (A5 etc.) and the D (bar50) and Eb (bar55) chords - as can be seen in ruclips.net/video/P4q7-wZmn-Q/видео.html With the G & Ab chords (in those same two bars), he's sustaining the two lower notes (in my transcription) and also the 5th of the chord (D & Eb respectively) below the root and 3rd (which of course means that at that point he's now actually only bouncing the root note with his left hand rather than root and 5th). And that Bb5 is definitely the inversion I've written rather than being similar to all the other 'power' inversions, as might've been expected 😎
@@ElektrikHob Thank you for that. OK, I WILL nitpick: bar 26 is clearly 12/8, and therefore bar 32 the 6/8, but it's obviously easier to score the repeat the way you do it. :-D
@@ElektrikHob wow, loving that you guys are using your monster ears for this and giving the material the respect it deserves. It's like a dream that all of this wonderful stuff is now available, to the point where it's almost worth me buying an electronic score reader just to have it all in one place!
I've never really worked them out (for piano at least) as it's very difficult to make them (and Watcher/Friday etc.) sound good on solo piano. Unless you're David Myers! But then his versions are stylistically VERY different to how I would do them! As you all know from the videos I've posted, I prefer sticking to the Genesis interpretation rather than adding my own flourishes... 😉 Maybe at some point in the future I might tackle them but don't hold your breath for too long... 😂
Awesome. I love this, this music deserves so much to be known (out of a minority... Who knows obviously! 😉 ) I listened to this in my youth and beyond. Wonder how did you get Peter's voice separated so clear.
I use the 5.1 DVD-Audio re-issues from 2007. The centre channel almost always contains all the lead vocals on their own and sometimes some lead instrument stuff too. In this case, as you can hear, Peter's voice and Steve's guitar slides at the end of each 'verse' were both on the centre track (which wasn't ideal). Plus, the 'scratchy' guitar bit between Steve's two 'solos' was missing from the centre track (it was mixed on the other 4 tracks) so I had to (sort of) recreate it.
I'd noticed the same when playing some of In the Cage (and other bits from The Lamb) from the sheet music around the same time i was slogging through the sight reading of some of JSB's stuff early in the WTC book (albeit at a snail's pace, and i'd since forgotten it as Prelude #2). Anyway it was just so similar when looking at them both on the page that i couldn't help but assume it was his inspiration as well..
@@Flatscores Damn! I'd also felt it was similar! Never thought i'd be on the internet one day, talking about these two possible inspirations of Tony's with like-minded admirers... I have slipped a snip of Dies Irae into stuff i'd played before, though i only know the progression in Dm. It can be fun to draw from if you're e.g. playing in a band with guitarists in drop-D tuning..
Could not believe when Peter's voice came in. These are unbelievable! Thank you so much.
Thanks so much for doing this.

Yeah, me too! Hoping it's just because they don't like the song as I'd like to think the transcription itself does the song justice...
Other times, other music...A Masterpiece
Excelent transcription as always! Thank you!
Very good. Your Genesis transcriptions ar the best in the world. Thank you.
Excellent work and great pdf! Thanks very much, I’ve been listening to Genesis since the early 1970s and have always loved this song.
Great! Fantastic your transcriptions.
thank you! rehearsing now this piece with our band...
Hoorah for this one. I have been struggling to hear 48-51 forever. Excellent job EH!

Excellent. Well done and thank you!
Thank you for always. I'm sure your transcription and piano are great.
Brilliant! One of my all-time favorites

@@ElektrikHob Completely understandable, keep up the great work!😁😁😁
That beautiful midpart as piano transcription. Masterful! Thank you for this😎👌
You're welcome 👍
Fantastic as always.
Wow ! Extraordinary. Many thanks for sharing !!
This is fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing!
im a guitarist trying to learn the piano parts on guitar too. i forgot bass clef. Segovia transcribed all the piano pieces for guitar
Indudablemente Tony Banks no es simplemente un buen tecladista, va más allá de ello, es un extraordinario pianista.
Thanks for this! Very useful and will continue to be so
because I can't for the life of me remember all the chords!
There certainly are a lot of 'em! 😂
This is good writing

maravilloso!!!!!!!!!!!
This is AMAZING!!!! Any chances Silver Rainbow and Me and Sarah Jane get covered?
@elektrikhob7628 Hope you someday get to doing more of Duke. Duchess/Guide Vocal would be amazing! Maybe even Cul-De-Sac and Man of Our Times?
May do Me & SJ at some point but SR doesn’t boil my egg I’m afraid 🤣
@@ElektrikHob Dang, got the CP80 piano and really hope to get it down right some day.
Thanks a lot!
Tony was probably practicing JSB's Prelude 2 in Cm (WTC) when he wrote the intro. What do you think?
😂
@@ElektrikHob I also hear "Dies irae" in the middle piano section. Which is thematically appropriate.

Excellent job but... how can I translate the PDF to MIDI file? for me it'd be easier to learning...
You could try using a score to MIDI app like PlayScore 2 or SmartScore...
