  • I am ditching the stock Bose sound system in my 2003 Chevy Suburban and started off by replacing the rear D pillar speakers. With a little bit modification a 3.5in speaker works and should be a nice upgrade.

    I have next generation 2011 and there is no hole in the body of car to mount speaker. Also, speaker faces forward instead of side ways. I just installed a bullet tweet that was almost same size as original. Original is more mid range but the tweet i added will hopefully get more power since 4 ohm vs 12.5 ohm

    You don't need the bass blockers, more than likely the signal don't have bass going to those speakers

      I put them in because I’m running them off a aftermarket head unit.

    The UQ3 (factory amp, 8" sub NON BOSE 9 speaker) RPO code is NOT 2 ohm, theyre all 4 ohm save for the sub which is 2 ohm.

  • @ARSONISTSCAMP
    @ARSONISTSCAMP Год назад

    The factory speakers are 2ohm. You're replacing them with 4ohm so you lose 50% the wattage from the bose amp. I replaced my factory amp with a 4ch and added a separate sub amp. My front sub is totally disabled...tho I'm thinking of getting a small amp and running it as a front midbass.

    Why do you need the capacitor and how does it work again (series on the positive lead)?

    • @mjmcomputers
      @mjmcomputers  5 лет назад +5

      It blocks the bass, works great on smaller speakers to prevent damage from too much bass. Use a non polarized capacitor. You can install on the positive or negative terminal of the speaker. Place in series between the speaker and the speaker wire. You can find charts on line that will give you the capacitor value and frequencies they block.

      MJM’s Workshop Thank you. I have a 2002 Suburban but have not yet attempted to do the D pillar speakers. I also have not done the subwoofer. Seems in both cases one needs to do a small modification so the speakers fit as you had to do. I am having BestBuy install my new Kenwood system and door speakers. I will then do as you did for the back of the car.

    • @mjmcomputers
      @mjmcomputers  5 лет назад +2

      Clint Labarthe 2002 should have the rear sub instead of the center console one like mine. Should make for an easier upgrade.

    • @clintlabarthe4520
      @clintlabarthe4520 5 лет назад +1

      MJM’s Workshop Yes I agree. Unfortunately the way the new 8” subwoofers are made it requires using a router or dremel to make the opening slightly larger. I have seen another video on that issue. You are correct my subwoofer is on the drivers side of the rear cargo area. I just need to get a set of tools to pop all this moulding off. Never attempted anything like this before.

    Why did you add the capacitor??? What does that even do in this setup?

    • @mjmcomputers
      @mjmcomputers  6 лет назад +2

      blocks bass to help keep from blowing this little speaker.

    • @CaliDaddy01
      @CaliDaddy01 6 лет назад +2

      John Stevenson, helps prevent blowing the speakers as well as eliminate some distortion from the new speakers. 3 1/2” speakers aren’t designed to put out the much lower frequencies that larger speakers can. There are different capacitors with different frequency cutoff points. Some only alllow lower frequencies, some only allow higher frequencies, and there are some that will still allow you to get the midrange frequencies.

    Bose stereo system in suburbans are 2 ohm. They have an amplifier thats ran on 2 ohm. the deck has nothing to do with liking 2 ohm speakers. Those 4 ohm speakers won't sound as good.

    • @mjmcomputers
      @mjmcomputers  7 лет назад +5

      Curtis Navarro Yes the Bose speakers are 2ohm as well as the Bose amp. I've now replaced all the speakers, bypassed the amp and replaced the head unit. It sounds so much better than the factory Bose system did.

      East Garland most of the amps are located under the center console, or behind the glovebox. FYI speaker pods.com makes a pod that lets you put a 5 1/4 speaker in the C pillar location.
