    The reason the kicker was more expensive is because there advertised wattage rating is rms witch is the real useable power. Planet audio advertises max wattage witch is not the rms or the useable power. So in turn it is actually less powerfull than the kicker. Always look for the rms rating because max wattage is always inflated and unrealistic. Max power basicly means thats the maximum it surges to in small instances of time not the actuall power it can handle

    • @PostalRedneck
      @PostalRedneck  3 года назад +5

      This is 100% true. I never did look at the RMS vs Max output ratings. I will however say that if the trucks were not side by side you would never notice the sound difference between them but I do truly believe the Kicker will outlive the Planet Audio.

    2:13 that right there, is the reason why car audio was so important to develop and evolve ALL forms of speakers, to all applications, meaning: "a harsh environment (heat, UV, vibrations, high power, harsh using) such as CARS, gave us things like subwoofer surrounds that have synthetic cloth/mesh embedded in the surround rubber/foam, and stitched surround-to-cone integration... you are welcome."

    • @PostalRedneck
      @PostalRedneck  Год назад +1

      Even the door speakers are failing and falling apart. Every time you open the window if it had been raining that day water dropped on the speaker and ate out the cone and rusted out the speaker. In the 03 and up they put on a splash guard on top the door speakers. The engineers who were behind the system on these early GMT800's were not doing a great job.

    • @drbelli
      @drbelli Год назад +1

      @@PostalRedneck hehe true that, paper and organic materials(like in older audio gear) proved not durable enough for the harsh environment that car speakers live in, its been a while that they are using synthetic cones and pvc/butyl/rubber surrounds instead of foam, i remember my dad's 98 gst eclipse stock drivers (infinity audio) they shocked me about their built quality and new materials in them, was a landmark in my teen years when i saw newer better more durable stuff coming stock with the cars.

  • @thatguy_jose

    The reason they kicker doesn't sound very good is power handling the planet audio is significantly better because of its rating which is like 600 watts rms where as the kicker is 200 watts rms but I'd recommend using an amplifier that's made for these subwoofers and get the good performance you want. The factory amplifier is only like 40-50 watts rms at 2 ohms so I mean getting the final load and preform from the factory amplifier is limited because I wasn't designed for larger power handling drivers.

    • @PostalRedneck
      @PostalRedneck  2 года назад +3

      I think the majority of people who are replacing the rear sub are looking for factory bace. Its a cheap and simple thing to do. Also if it wasn't for the fact that they were sitting right next to each other you would never even notice a difference between the two other than im betting years down the road the kicker will still be working fine.

  • @frotobaggins7169
    @frotobaggins7169 3 дня назад

    I wonder if the sound discrepancy is because the Kicker is a dual voice coil rated at 8 and 2 ohm, where the planet audio is rated at 4 ohm and 1 ohm. The factory sub is a 2 ohm sub.

      Glad you like it. Im not entirely certain the Kicker will fit in a Suburban. The Tahoe and Yukon have different boxes than the Suburban and Yukon XL. If you do try the Kicker let me know if it fits. As of right now the only sub I know of that has been confirmed to fit the Suburban and Yukon XL's is the MB Quart - amzn.to/3hheFWg with a lower mounting depth. You will be happy with having a rear sub again. It makes a world of difference.

      @postal redneck much appreciated I'm hoping it fits too I have seen ones with a more shallow mounting depth may look into that. My burban is bone stock the factory head unit and everything so I'm replacing it all, I was curious did you bypass your factory amp or is that what you're using?

    • @PostalRedneck
      @PostalRedneck  2 года назад +2

      Okay just making sure you knew the boxes were different between the 2. Hope it fits. In the Tahoe with the Planet audio it was stock radio and amp. In the Yukon with the Kicker it was aftermarket radio with stock amp. To power the stock amp if you install a after market radio you need to run power to the red wire on the small 5 wire connector to key on or none of your speakers will work.

      I will say going with anything bigger as far as power wise I would think wouldnt gain you that much with the factory box being as small as it is as well as the factory amps power. You also have to look at mounting depth with the subs you are considering as the factory box is not that deep either. If you do end up going with a different sub than in the video and it fits please let everyone know as im sure people who see this video would like to know if there are other alternatives and how well they worked.

    Bass is always hard to tell when listening through a video, it sounds like the Kicker was a deeper sound though? I'm trying to decide between the two, what do you like more about the planet audio?
    Also, (Knowing nothing about car audio) It looks like your two wires from the factory sub just plug right into one side of the sub, and then you just run a jumper wire to the other side and that's it?

    • @PostalRedneck

      Honestly it would come down to how long you plan on owing the vehicle. I think the Kicker will last longer but with that being said I have had the Planet Audio one in my Tahoe for 2 years with no problems. As for the wiring you just want to make sure you are powering both coils so just put the stock wires to one coil and then some jumper wires over to the other one.

    • @PostalRedneck
      @PostalRedneck  2 года назад +3

      There is literally a link to both subs in the description. Under specs for the Kicker - "Features 4-Ohm dual voice coil for sound and wiring flexibility". Under specs for the Planet Audio - "Dual 4 Ohm Voice Coil". On a 4 ohm DVC sub you wire them in parallel to get a 2 ohm load. The factory amp in these systems require 2 ohms of resistance so both subs will work flawlessly. I hope this helps alleviate your concerns.

      Man thats a bummer. I like the little bit of base either setup gives you. If I were you I would be looking at installing an aftermarket sub and box but if you dont have the room getting a sub out of a older gen and hooking it up to a small sub would do the trick. Lots of work either way. Good luck.

    Hey. Any big difference in sound volume on the sub, since the factory one being 2ohm and the new ones are 4.

    • @PostalRedneck
      @PostalRedneck  2 года назад +1

      Wrong. Both subs installed are 2ohm and factory is 2ohm. Links for both subs in description. Sounds great and glad I replaced them.

    • @PostalRedneck

      You cant. A dual 2ohm can only be 1ohm or 4ohm and the factory amp requires 2ohm. You need to buy a 2ohm single voice coil or a 4ohm duel voice coil.

    • @PostalRedneck
      @PostalRedneck  Год назад +2

      I dont think there would much of a difference running anything bigger than stock. The size of the box is the limiting factor. If you are after base the stock sub box is not going to allow for much. If you do end up doing it let everyone know the outcome if you can. I would be interested to hear your findings.

    • @PostalRedneck
      @PostalRedneck  Год назад +2

      Honestly I would think the performance would be about the same maybe a little better but hardly worth it if its properly working. This is more or less for everyone who has a non working sub and wants to replace it. I would check to make sure your rubber is good on the sub itself as its a sealed box and any break points in that will hurt its performance but if that looks good I would just leave it be. Worse case is its an easy fix that dont take that long to do. Hope this help.

      Check to see if all your door speakers are working. There is a chance the amp under the dash could be bad. Also if you have any other speakers try to plug them in and see if the new Kicker was bad.
