The trailers they put out was not very appetizing to the general audience. The string of combos looked too hard, the multi lane playstyle looked too confusing. Also the animations are technically good, but it has a lot of key frame issues, similar to how people find Mortal Kombat stiff.
I like the In-Game Animation. You can really tell that the Animation team really knew what they were doing. My only criticism is that the Character Animation could have more Character to it like Skullgirls.

I absolutely refuse to pay for this game. The publisher screwed over Mane Six, fired all the employees, and cancelled future DLC for Them's Fightin' Herds. They don't deserve to be trusted with fighting games ever again.

She also has some Eliza from Skullgirls in her, except instead of blood and a microphone, she has…a fur stole and a magic gem I guess

I´m not a big fan of the art style, it just looks weird to me together with that character design too.
It's a good looking game, but there's something about the vibe that I don't like. I can't quite put my finger on exactly what it is.

The announcer, the UI, the animation, the sound effects and the music. The game is definitely a spiritual successor if nothing else.
