The entire US psychological/psychiatric profession has created the convenient crutch of hiving everything off on medications, including the trauma of children. Everything is physical/chemical, which couldn't be medicated into submission with drugs. While adults are off looking for mushrooms and weed, what's the harm in giving children Zoloft and Prozac? Heck of a lot easier than Parenting sometimes.
Well.. when the stage of "educating the parents" is lost.. what can you do? Leave those children with acute depression, selfdestructive behavior? You put him on antidepressants like those you named, and try to make them do better in life. Man. The world is not as simple as "they give them prozac they are all wrong" or "we need to educate parents about parenting".. the decline is just somethig cyclic and you can't avoid it. Let's see what happens in 10 years more, where all those with hyperactivity get into adult phase. I can't even imagine about how this world would look like.
COVID-19 really did a number on our adolescent humans. A cocktail of isolation and fear were mixed in with the developing mind and raging hormones. I believe the challenges each generation faces define them in a unique way; coronavirus is theirs. Feel strongly that teens should have two parents because they can learn different things from each adult. *I don't want* people to feel like that have to read an improvement book to be a good parent because all you need is *warmth and structure*. Personally, I believe parenting is a verb. Sure, it is listening actively but you have to make suggestions and remove barriers to support the adolescent human. In my experience, others are acutely interested in my antidotal stories because they are not so much about advice, but just related and building trust. This interview really is a conversation starter. Thank you, both for your time.
This generation is just kind of weak. 18 year olds 100 years ago got blown up in battle and here we’re arguing about kids living in the richest and most prosperous country in the world being “sad”. Go see the world’s real challenges and then come back and talk your talk
Parents should of thought about that when they decided to give their toddlers tablets to keep them quiet and their school age children phones for emergency purposes. Parents made this excuse while doing nothing to enable their children’s internet access and now adults want to be mad at social media companies. No blame parents for not thinking about what they were doing and setting their kids up for all types of problem. It’s not like they didn’t know what was out there on the internet. I never understood it. I even had friends who did it and I would roll my eyes when they’d say it was for emergency purposes. Parents need to do better and be more accountable.
We have had a mental health problem in this country since the seventies. Acting like you care about the teens is futile. Care about the homeless before you care about anything. Seeing that psychologically, most problems stem from the parents and how we are raised. But you're gonna go after the teens because their parents have insurance.
No, because you can't reeducate those parents. Not defending this woman. Just saying - we've lost few decades... Let's see what comes next.. it will be interesting for sure.. lol

As a teenager in the US, I can confirm we are in the middle of a mental health crisis.

How about regulating social media content?

Parents need to do better and be more accountable.
Or news outlets and the DSM-5
I am fully on regulating social media, especially tiktok, insta etc.. guess my age...
As a long life liberal, cbs and other media outlets should take responsibility too
Kids aren't watching CBS.
