It's nice to revisted things from the past! Karen was an icon! Her smooth, cheerful and and heavenly alto voice! I wish things were more of a slower pace and more music today like the carpenters!
Yes, Heavenly like a lot of people are saying .....Was given such a wonderful talent and such a descent human being ...This is the kind of person God uses.....
This is the best video of Karen loving life & her craft, singing AND drumming. Then they split her apart, doing far more damage than they knew. Poor lovely, beautiful Karen 😭😖
This is the first time that I have ever heard this song. It brought tears to my eyes. She was exquisitely feminine and yes, there was something heavenly about her. Karen had a voice like no other but she was much more than her talents. As painful as her departure from this world has been, we must not forget what a blessing it was to have had Karen Carpenter with us even for a short time.
I had never heard this song either until I came across this video. The thing that stood out to me was how happy Karen seems in this video. Love it. Thanks for the comment.
@@bigrrmanOf course she looks happy. That's her act and she's a great actress and a great showman. I met Karen at our dentist office in october 1976.....and she was so neet in person and gave this big fan the biggest memory of his life!!! It is a shame the world lost Karen Carpenter so young. Her doctor did a poor job managing her anorexia nervosa diagnosis and treatment that caused her health to fail. This did not need to happen but all water under the bridge unfortunately. Thanks for posting this video!
Dr. Levenkron was a leader in treatment for anorexia & eating disorders-The blockades and challenges he received from the Carpenter family proved insurmountable. Of all his personal patients suffering this disease, Karen remains his only casualty.
@@doctorrobert60 Much was still not known about anorexia… I’m sure in retrospect, even the doctor may feel he was mad at certain aspects. Phil Ramone’s wife, “Itchy” (Karen Itchiguma) was forthcoming about a lot of the details happening at the time. Levenkron had a great BS detector and didn’t let Karen get away with much. Roy Coleman’s bio is a terrific source- as is the more recent “Little Girl Blue” by the great Randy Schmidt (which got more people close to her, to open up… And something about the statute of limitations for her ex-husband, could reveal new details now…. ) Best, VJ
Karen constantly sabotaged her Dr's orders & treatments. She walked or jogged to & fro his office for her appointments, rather than using public transportation while In NYC. In addition, she hid Dulcolax™ Tablets in her Hotel room, taking 18 pills per Day! She was honest as the Days are long, but when it came to her health, lied like a rug!
Just a tidbit: if you listen carefully, you can hear at around 3:30 a distortion of the audio where the audio folks turn on the live audience microphones, and you can hear residual music over the studio tape.
@@cuylerotsuka Yup, I noticed that right away at the end of the song. But you could also tell at the beginning it wasn't live. So many artists did that back then. Too many songs that were lip-synced. No matter, the Carpenters always made it "real." : )

I still say that if Karen had not allowed her family to force her to give up the right to do what she loved most which was drumming/singing she might still be alive today and I think Richard will be haunted by this to his dying day whether or not he admits it.
I think it's easy to just blame Richard for getting her off the drums and putting her up front, and that's probably what set her eating disorder in motion, but that sort of thing doesn't just come out of nowhere. I'd blame her parents most for prioritizing Richard and his music career so much growing up along with whatever else her mother may have said to her
She destroyed herself. Nobody to blame but her. You can not force a self-destructive person to change. How many mothers in the world are imperfect?
