That was a very entertaining and interesting video. I really like your style and dry humour. I think this channel will do well.

Happily stumbled on your channel. I enjoyed this very much. It breaks my heart to see any engine (or any machine) neglected like this. A 100 quid lesson. We've all done it! And BTW I've subscribed.
    Cheers from Down Under,
    Peter.

Reminds me of a Bedford Midi (Isuzu) van I bought "Engine needs slight attention". Turned out there was a rod poking out of the block!

One of the last engines i stripped would not shift
I ended up cutting the head along each stud to relieve pressure, once the head came off it was apparent the block was no good either.
Saved the cam, crank, followers etc but not much else.

The metal flakes on the oil pumps is at least somewhat due to the fact that the oil pump turns backward compared to its original orientation in a mini.
There is a relief hole on the pump that is covered by the gasket, looking at it the hole could do with redrilling as a mirror image to allow oil to circulate past the lower short shaft bush.

That engine probably never had its oil changed by the looks of it lol. love the mechanics hammer use in this :) I hate Aluminum heads! Had them on my old truck and the first time I changed the plugs the sounds they made while removing them terrified me.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed, aluminium is a bit fragile unfortunately… lots of nasty noises!

You could melt it and cast it into something useful, like brackets.

If the gearbox is OK then that's worth £100 now. Getting hard to find the Regal boxes. Sump/bolts/tab washers and the front pulley are worth keeping.

Fear not, what can be saved will be saved! Sadly the gearbox casing is not looking good, and the selectors are very worn…

Even Tony Robinson has never hauled up anything as knackered as this engine! I'm not holding up much hope for the gearbox after seeing the engine. Thanks for a highly entertaining video.

@@badgerlodgegarage A shame about the gearbox but didn't expect any different! I've enjoyed all of your videos and sub'd about 3 weeks ago after the Supervan vid. This channel should go far because your presentation style, dry humour and knowledgeable content makes for really good videos.

@@graemew7001 thank you very much for subscribing, I’m glad it comes across ok! I’m trying to show that none of this stuff should be too scary, and anyone can give it a go. And hopefully entertain along the way…

Quite relaxing and interesting to watch, though it can't have been very relaxing to do. Still, on the brighter side, might there not be a few parts that could be reused when you come round to rebuilding the one in the Reliant Supervan 3?

I suppose it was cleaned AFTER most of the oil had left the scene...

Do you know what the bore and stroke was on the 700cc engine? I'm asking from curiosity. I know that the 848cc was the exact same as the 748 BUT Reliant increased the stroke by 9mm for more power. I don't know much about the Regal.
