Had the same thing happen to me on the way to work at LHR! No choice but to do clutchless changes to get there, then the same to get back home to Tolworth, via Hampton Court and Esher! I left it til nearly 10pm to ensure lightest possible traffic! Basically I switched the engine off, stuck it into 2nd gear, and restarted it! Horrible jerking on the transmission, but once moving, just had to pretend it was a non synchro box. I removed the engine and gearbox complete as it makes putting the gearbox back on the engine much much easier, you can see all the bolts for a start!
When reinstalling old engines like this, it is probably a good idea to fill the engine bay with cheap pieces of plastic on all sides of the engine itself. I don't know why, but they do this on new cars and we have to assume there is a good reason for it. It's probably best if you don't see a hint of the engine itself until you've spent 10-15 minutes removing pieces of plastic.
I've pulled quite a number of MGA, B and midget engines in my time and I've never been greeted by that sight before, I didn't know release bearings could do that! The only thing you did different to me was I used to remove the bonnet because the bloody thing always got in the way on any of those 3 MG's. I wish I could remember which film I've heard that music from, it's doing my nut in.
Why are you taking out the engine without the gearbox? You have more chances of damaging the friction plate when putting the engine back in. With MGBs the gearbox has to come out also!
Good job. These cars are a delight work on. Everything is so simple and accessible. I love mine.
Judging by the sun movement (unusual for an English vid) you two got that engine out in record time - well done!

Ah yes… you are correct, those words were rather an understatement… thanks for watching!

Yes it’s quite impressive! The music is from RUclipss library, so no copy-write problems.
