- I grew up BMX Dirt Jumping before I eventually raced Downhill professionally, but there's something about The Fort Hill Jump Line at Thunder Mountain that I find Scary.

I feel like people underestimate how in-shape you have to be to be able to hold a conversation when you do stuff like this.
This is true. My friends always wondered why I was mostly silent when I first started riding with them.
Not really
I'm out of breath just walking while getting the package of oreos from the pantry haha
HONESTLY
Really? It's downhill, gmafb. We don't have any real downhill parks around here, but we do have a few regular trails that can be shuttled back to the top for a day of just riding the trail down. I can do that for hours and hours vs having to ride back up first each time where I'd be done after a couple runs.
My man in the beginning, offering to replace tyres with cush core is the real mvp. Didn't bat an eyelid.
It’s not that bad. Good tire lever and your good to go.
DH casing too. OOF
@@keystonerider1308 I’ve done maybe a dozen now. It’s still that bad…
lol some of the people replying to this comment can't see the humor. this comment made me LOL and I was thinking the same thing.
That dude does Cush core in like 5 minutes no joke. He’s a nutty good mechanic
I love how Phil says he's scared of that jump line, yet casually narrates through the whole section..
haha yes
Yea I couldn't tell the difference in his voice at all I was like nah your kidding man this is your bread and butter. 😂🤘
IKR?!! LOL
That's because the clickbait title is where the real S is.
It's refreshing to watch a rider talk about being nervous or sketched on some jumps. That's what I like about Phil, he's a real rider that talks about the real world experiences the rest of us deal with.
As a non- pro rider these jumps also scare the 💩 out of me
Only scary if you plan on trying them 😆
@@abuckcat haha very true 😂
As a software engineer these also scare the 💩 out of me
Phil's POVs like this in bikeparks fill special place in my heart
Thank you Phil!
Phil, love your attitude and how nice u r!
I'm a disabled vet and dont have skill to do what u do. Thanks for taking me on these trips with you!
God bless you Phil
I've been MTB'ing for 25 years and watching these guys makes me feel like a world class chump. They are so talented and not the least bit risk adverse.
At the same time, it is good to acknowledge your limitations.
Phil, I watched your videos for a long time and actually ended up getting into mountain biking because of it. I never realized it before getting into biking, but its incredible how easy you make these trails look. These are some serious trails and you and your friends are absolutely crushing it. Now that I bike more I can really appreciate just how good you guys are!
Yep! It is until you have to ride stuff like this yourself, you know that they are bombing trails like that!
Phil's empathy is so strong he feels other peoples flats!
Hey phil, I met you at thunder last week and you are one of the most amazing people I've met. That made my forever and one of my best mtb days ever. Thank you
starting watching you years ago when you did that pump track series. i’ve since lost interest in the sport and randomly got a notification for this video. happy to see how far your production, commentary, and riding skills have progressed. i wish nothing but the best for you, phil
Dude.....I come back to these videos for your attitude. I've never "mountain biked" in my life. I rode a Schwinn for around a year when I lived/worked in the same part of town but it was about a 5 mile ride there and back. Probably in the best shape of my life, now due to a degenerative disorder/ intense surgeries I have zero calf muscles, so I just try to get out and play disc golf when I can but it's hard for me to build anything back. I just wanted to say thank you for always having such a positive attitude, it helps me.
Man! if i had 10% of your riding, filming and editing skills...i’d be sooo happy...was giving up on trail riding due to an injured arm...but you’ve inspired me to keep riding!! many thanks my man!!!
12:41 That was a Phil moment if I've ever seen one 😳 Nobody else would be a: Crazy enough to try that & b: somehow be able to pull it off. Your videos are so much fun to watch!
I've ridden that section so many times and it's never even crossed my mind to do that. He is a madman lmao
That was insane! 🤯
The speed you and your friends carrying down is just amazing. Appreciate the videos and if I could only ride the fraction of your speed and skills. The joy you have is infectious. Great stuff!
I miss MTB so much!
This vid really got my juices flowing. And while I know I won’t be able to ride at the level I used to nor at Phil’s “casually intense” level (haha), I know it’s worth getting back out there for the pure love of the sport.
Thanks Phil! You’ve inspired and motivated me to get back out there!!!
Cheers all!
same I used to ride every second day but last year stopped cause in in grade 11 and stuff like that
I can not believe that you are not crashing at THIS kinda speed and THESE gnarly rocks!!! Insane.
I haven't been on a bike in so long because of graduate school and it's killing me. I'm living vicariously through these videos!
I'm loving the commentary during the trail riding. That's something unique imo.
I love thunder mt. such a good little spot with everything you need and it's not overcrowded or packed with the same type of people often found at highland and such. just a little more chill IMO.
you must be the best rider to follow - watching those crazy lines you take....... but the worst to have behind you...... because of the crazy lines..... love it man.
Skills is an understatement... mind blowing how fast you take that gnarl without crashing 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Carving thru the trees at that speed is cray-zeee! Gonna have to call you Geppetto the woodcarver.
when i was younger back in the 80's and early 90's i used to ride bike trails a lot and i loved it , now im in my 50's and just watching this is shaking my insides lose, lol
That was a fun moment seeing you make progress with no handers. well done!
this guy is literally conducting a relaxing podcast while basically falling down a mountain on a bike
Hailey is really getting fast ! and its nice to hear stuff scares you too!
You were one of the main reasons I got into mountain biking in the first place! Loved the video!
Love the close call giggles hahaha
I know most of the Thunder trails like the back of my hand. And I can't believe how fast Phil rides. Blows my mind. Love the vids!
These are some big hunking jumps though, and in your last video the landings were very shot indeed. They improvem them a lot since then, loving that!
One second before you said it (in my mind) I said Haley's rippin!
Quality video with great context. I live in Western Mass and will be taking my single speed 2020 GT Avalanche here for my first ever bike park experience. Thank you!! BTW, I bought a GT because of your experience with them and my trust in you. I still go back to your old videos when I need to re-learn something or build something new. 🤘🏻
This always looks like so much fun. I used to trail ride dirt bikes all the time and it's making me want another bike of some sort.
that little whip at like 2:18 is sick.
Man I love your content. Such good narration and clarity as you come down the hill. And the honesty and being so humble is so down to earth. Thanks for the content.
Thanks for the tip, this is just a short drive for me, going to check it out!
Best mountain biker on youtube period.
Some good potholes. Only Phil would say something like that
In the olden days (1990s), GT was in Camarillo and would have the unofficial New Years Day Little Pine Ride in Santa Barbara. 6 miles of fire road climb and single track back down. Awesome.
As a person who rides motocross and mtb, In my experience I always would rather overjump than case a jump😂
Which makes senses you are traveling way faster on a much heavier bike, coming up short is practically deadly. Coming up short on an mtb, is usually just a bit uncomfortable.
We been flipping that dirt double this season! Let's see a flip phil !
i feel arm pump just watching phil ride some of that new england tech.
I’ve got a blue/yellow color way for my polygon, great choice! 🙌🏼
Watching videos like this get me so excited for Rider's Republic because i could never do this in real life lol
It’s so exciting seeing your local park on your favorite channel
I'm not a rider, but love watching these clips. My tip is to watch them with headphones on!
Just rewatched the Pinkbike Whistler Gaps video and it would be so gnarly if Phil and Joann collabed in BC. Love the content man keep it up.
16:34 that looks so smooth !
Broo I went to a bikepark for the first time in my life one week ago and now that I know how deadly these rooty sections actually are: you are a freaking madman! I can’t even count how many times I would’ve died on that first track with the roots and stuff. Crazy!
The way you feel about the Fort Hill jumps is the same way I feel about your jumps! lol also, sui's coming along niiiiiiice
OMG love it how you jump on that tech-sections. Its looks like you would just pushing a JUMP button on your handlebars :D crazy.
Great video! I enjoyed how you talked so calmly during some of those downhill runs. Looks like so much fun.
I was lucky enough to have Dylan Conte as coach at Highlands Ayr Academy this summer, he’s a great coach and awesome rider.
It was super cool meeting you there great video
Just seeing you rip through these trails when theres not 3 feet + of snow on the ground is awesome. Just made me think of shredding down through those sets of berms in the winter. Sick video, Phil.
Seen trail boss sending these last year and it still blows my mind that you guys have to balz to ride them. 👏💯🔥
"Phil here" WHAT?!? no way! never would have guessed ;)
That's why a moto background really helps. As everyone in moto knows its better to go too far than come up short. Plus you learn the skill of judging speed for jumps, where in BMX it's not as crucial.
Yooooo that jump at 10:21 where you landed was super technical!!!
Sick riding man! Just got my first HT and looking forward to hitting some local tracks!
look forward to FS in 3 months, then a "better" FS in the next 6. rinse and repeat until you've really come into your own on the bike and found your ultimate bike...for a year or two :)
At 12:42 I thought you'd overcooked it, great video, again.
Hayley's getting quick 👍
Killin it! You're the most entertaining rider to watch POV!
Phil’s riding style is second to none 🔥🔥
Damn that jump line was a piece of art! I will never give up a chance to ride that line!
This was the best darn video I've seen lately
Always fun watching your video
wow, the wooden ramp track is great...🚴↗🥇
Hailey WAS ripping (~ 10:00) . Good stuff!
love watching you follow people ... I try and guess what crazy line you're going to find.. thanks for the great videos .. my summer was over July 17th bike wreck so videos keep me inspired.
Those jumps look insane!!!
I go skiing here in the winter, cool to see the bike park side of Berkshire East
Bro, you make this look way easier than I imagine it is :D
Awesome content as always, keep it up dude 🤙🏼
Phil just going so much bigger then all the other GT racers/team/engineers, I still think Phil, you don't get the cred you deserve (get back into racing haha). Also "I think" the best on high speed super tech root/rock nar as well...flow trails others seem to pull away a bit.
I mean, he is using maxxis minions. Not exactly fast rollers.
@@TheDustyShredder That's fair, but I'd assume most riders are on this style of tire.
Those fort hill jumps are no joke the GoPro doesn’t do them any justice
4:00 "on your left". Just watched that movie.
Phil just watching your video you scared the 💩 out of me. Lol 😂 It’s nice to see and hear that your scared doing something at times, even though you’ve been riding pro for a long time. Thanks for your videos.
Incredible riding! You made quick work of Back if the Shack and Thunder Cliffs. Two trails that challenge me. The speed you were taking Billy Badger was awe-inspiring. There are a few spots that are tricky and have got me when I was not paying close enough attention.
Agreed. I ride there very often, and his speed and line choice boggle my mind. I feel like my body & bike couldn't remotely handle what he gets up to.
These videos make me want to get a good bike to do trails like this.
4:40 Risk it for the biscuit 😆🤙🏽
nice ride, Phil! Good for you that your trails are open. In my country the Philippines, we couldn't cross other cities. We are allowed only to bike intercity, which is urban riding. Not fair! The trails are better than cement or asphalt. Hoping this pandemic would end soon. More videos please.
Going through those trees brings back some bad memories of a tree related crash...lmao...hit a tree root and it shot me down the side of a ravine and got a dislocated knee out of it....took 2 hours trying to get my knee back in, then had to carry my bike almost 5 miles home....after that I always made sure I had a friend with me when I went bombing trails
I love thunder, this video makes me love it more.
Hi Phil your doing insane on yet your my favourite RUclips to watch keep up the good work:)
Great video. You should have someone video you Phil. Show off your mad skills! Love GT bikes. I have a GT XCR3000 which would probably fall apart doing those trails lol.
Hailey's getting so fast! I didn't even recognize her at first.
I love Thunder Mountain and miss riding there dearly. It's fun to see how you ride my favorite blue and black diamond trails there (obv. Iwould never hit Fort Hill), so much faster and hitting option lines I never even noticed 🙂 Good motivation to keep trying to improve myself.
For me, the blue and gold is totally GT! Nice Ride!
never knew this place existed and i live in mass love the riding
I cant believe you are just riding on rocks and everything else like its just flat land...incredible
The terrain technicality blew my mind. I see myself using the large rocks to cushion my falls.
Hey Phil! Love your videos, I was so happy to see you there that day and get a photo with you(my friend had the oldschool kona)! Think pretty much everyone I know now knows that I got a fist bump from you.. fun fact my girlfriend bought the specialized demo you rode past at 3:01.
You bike is mad fire I like the dark blue and the yellow 👌 nice video
Great to hear you shouting out for a ‘Blue’😊
Thanks for everything Phil!
1st time viewer. What a rush!! Nice
I’m sitting here like man that’d be sick if this was in Massachusetts…come to find out it is 😂 HELL YEA!
