    Like the metal frets. Wondering if the chrome ring around the sound hole has a functional purpose or is just for looks.

  • @MikeBracewell
    @MikeBracewell Год назад +1

    Great video, as usual. Probably a daft question, Baz but do you think it would work just as well with a set of Aquila Nygut's (or equivalent) or would you recommend sticking to fluorocarbons as it's a plastic uke? Cheers in advance!

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  Год назад +2

      Yes, I think any strings that are thinner in gauge (i.e for soprano / concert) will work better.

  • @juliuschas
    @juliuschas Год назад

    Sounds much better with the D6 tuning... but I wonder whether the offset sound hole stifles the volume, and maybe tub-ifies the sound a bit.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  Год назад

      I don't think it's so much that - a sound hole is merely a thing to allow air transfer and make the top move - not what creates the sound.

    I do like the Enya but seldom any others. I like the looks of this one. It looks sturdy enough and may be a good travel ukulele. The strings Are flabby no doubt. They sound like toy strings but I think with better strings this would not sound to bad….excellent review as usual. …DOC

    Thanks Baz, unfortunately not for me. Do agree the tuning 2 step up did improve the sound. Makes me wonder why a company can’t pick up on this before release. Another great review and always interesting.. Have a great weekend.

  • @ominkan3129
    @ominkan3129 Год назад

    The design and material seems nicer than the Enya especially the the tuners. I also don't enjoy a flappy set of strings so you would think since each instrument can be set up precisely, they would do that at the factory. They definitely should put the proper strings on it.
    Another great review, I enjoyed it.

  • @petergeen2198

    The frets on my new Martin T1k were so sharp on the outside edges they actually chaffed the skin on my finger tips until I painstakingly rounded them off with some very fine grit paper.
    Kind of makes me wonder if there is room for debate on whether Martin should (a) stick with tradition and not make any changes or (b) Martin should step into the great reset, evolve and refine the T1k into a todays version of the uke.
    I watched your review on the T1k years ago with no mention of the fret edges making me wonder if Martin’s standards are dropping. Maybe time for a re- review of the T1k? After all, it is a classic and there aren’t to many ukulele’s that have been in production for so many years. Have they changed for the better or worse. If you still have your one maybe a comparison?
    Cheers mate.

    $119 but when you include the cost of a setup and new strings it moves up considerably. Surely better value ultimately to go for something from a uke store.

    • @ukeleleEric
      @ukeleleEric Год назад +1

      If you do the setup yourself (it's not that difficult), a set of strings (if you haven't already got them lying around) isn't going to cost a lot. And you could still use the ones they supply for a tenor uke, so they won't be wasted.

    I have one of these and I’ve got to say that over time and stretching the strings, it did take on a quite pleasant tone. One thing I did notice was that compared to other concert size ukuleles I own, that the scale length is shorter. Could this contribute to the initial sloppy/loose feeling strings?

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  Год назад

      Not sure (but also stretching over time will not change tension - tension is a function of mass over length) - I just think the string gauge is too thick - so pitch is happening at a much lower tension

    • @leofernandez037
      @leofernandez037 Год назад

      @@GotAUkulele just saying… my experience. These strings feel quite taught now.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  Год назад +1

      @@leofernandez037 That's just physically impossible though - tension is a function of the mass of the string over the vibrating length. The mass cannot change over time, neither can the vibrating length. So the tension cannot change. (Unless you change the pitch)

      Definitely not as floppy as when purchased.
      I’ve had the same experience getting Worth Brown Low G not to feel as sloppy as they stretch out, and in my opinion, become tighter.

    • @theoldkid5725
      @theoldkid5725 Год назад +1

      Shorter scale means less tension,you're right.Gibson, for example ,uses a shorter scale length for their guitars than Fender,and that is one reason(besides the pickups) why Fenders have more "twang"

    • @GotAUkulele

      Because I could fix it in ten minutes - not right of course - so I mention it - but then I would urge anyone to buy from a real uke store to avoid this. Loads of Flights i've seen direct need work (and Enya's) but they are still good core instruments.

    • @GotAUkulele
