I smell crossover content where you mix games with actual astronomy on Cosmic Curiosity.
Having watched both of your channels religiously for years, this is a great combination of both. A little taste for people who haven't watched Cosmic Curiosity yet. Loved this!!
I actually experience a flare/cme while traveling from pyro 2 to 3 , so across the system. As I QT’ed close to the star I got the warning, but before I reached pyro 3 the warning was gone, and I got the you are safe now message.
This leads me to believe it is ejecting in a cone and not spherically.
I did not get a cme at pyro 3 until much later, so I’m certain it was not the same one.
Love what you do. You see, you actually can talk about astronomy here. I suggest you a topic about how SETI will never find anything. Because it's impossible. If you do calculations you will see that we can't even detect radio waves or a laser from Proxima Centauri. To send radio waves and someone could detect it on Proxima we need at least 3 GW of power. That's basically it.
100% agree, I was actually really disappointed when I got into pyro and experienced my first "flare" event. My brother was on the opposite side of the sun and we both got hit at the same time. I was so confused. I had fully expected the flares to be directional as they are in real life and not just a weird omni directional pulse.
Will likely be tweaked, especially since this is in the preview channel -- I'm sure CIG is aware of this, but the extra attention being brought to it will hopefully help with identifying the issue and tweaking it better.
Be nice if ED had star activity
Science ships would have a huge benefit here, with their scientific instruments they could analyze the star and predict when CME (and if standard flares are a thing, them too) will happen and where. Then they could share that information with the rest of the server so people will know where and when to avoid long term.
Loved this. Can’t wait for cosmic curiosity to start back up
Neat idea. I vote SC hires Astro as their Science Advisor.
This video was really interesting. That would be a cool adjustment to this in game event
Great information and ideas on design implementation!
CIG needs to hire you as a consultant so they can get it right!
Keep in mind these are test builds on a test preview channel. The intent is feedback. Give them feedback. They are known to change things based on it.
Exactly, this is the first technical preview of the Pyro system and all of the new things it has (both new content and new features like CMEs). Making something simply work at all is a more important first step than making it work to exacting scientific precision before you're sure you can even get the build to succeed patch validation. But this is also the correct time for Astro to be offering feedback to CIG about their CME implementation and how they could iterate on the idea to improve it in both a gameplay perspective and in scientific accuracy.
I saw the events referred to as 'mass coronal ejection' in the game dialogs announcing them, instead of 'coronal mass ejection'. I think spectacle is higher on CIGs list than scientific accuracy
Or the UI dev who filled in the text string was not in the room when the writers and designers were talking to the astrophysicist consultants and jotting down pages of notes, and simply made a mistake.
I love learning and today I have learned a lot from your video. Thank you very much Astro.
When I played there were instances where I got CMEs but other players says they weren't, and vice versa; other reporting CMEs but I got nothing.
Could be unrelated to how they've implement it and is just bugs not affecting eveyone.
Afaik...this is a directional phenomenon ingame right now? So only parts of the system are effected at any moment
It isn't omnidirectional afaik
Seems like a good idea. Not sure if this could be implemented.
You are just the perfect person to cover space games. Would be crazy to stop for good, wouldn‘t it?
Please 🥺
I was thinking the same thing when I 1st exp. an was thinking CIG had done this clock graph type mechanic
making a module available to counter, protect from or resist some or all effects from coronal mass ejection event at the expense of other equipment or ship performance is a good idea also
Yes, great update Dave thank you.. hope CIG is listening
Space games do allow us to do what we believe impossible.
Experience it planet side. It's pretty good.
After watching many hours of reactions to CitCon Pyro play I'm paint I remember hearing about people jumping through events and getting pulled out, disabled, or getting a message about avoiding the event
I hope CIG see this.
If I have a channel that say "Down to Earth Astronomy" I definstelly will start another channel about astronomy. Just because I can. Or bored. Or both.
Lol no, i see why you went to youtube instead of finishing school. Also, wisdom is knowing you know nothing... we have basically no idea how most things work fully.
