Mike Rodriguez is an AMAZING trumpet player! Your viewers should definitely check him out, especially his touring with Chic Corea! Check out his album Pathways, amazing recording and sound!
Oh yeah. That larger bell is 🔥. Play a Del Quadro these days and reminds me of my Grande Campana. The problem is that you could make a funnel and tube sound good!
The smaller one seemed more closed. It, to me, did not seem to have as many overtones to the sound. It was not as full sounding to me. Did one feel better/easier for you personally to play? If so, which one? Both sounded good, but out here, the larger one was better sounding, but not by a lot. Great video. I love these comparison videos of these high end horns.
Great as always! I preferred the smaller bell but both sound great. Funny you mention the Selmer TT in another comment - I had one and loved everything about it, except it was just a bit tubby (for me).
did both of those horns have the same bell material (yellow brass/red brass.....)? I'm actually kinda torn the more I listen to this...it seems to really depend on what you're playing as to which I like better...though the large bell clearly sounds more lush to me on more lyrical passages...curious how much teh different materials might change the 'flavor' of the sound one way or the other.
Do you think the tumultus (with the large or smaller bell) is a versatile, workhorse trumpet? Or is it more specialized for small group playing. Curious if you think it could hold up in a commercial setting
It is interesting that in the past many instrument makers emerged and they all tried to model their trumpets after Vincent Bach's horns, at least in looks. It seems the new maker everyone these days is trying to model after is Dave Monette. Trumpet evolution
Honestly there isn't much like Monette on these horns. I've owned 5 Monette instruments and have sold maybe 40-50 others. This is much more like the Selmer tt but an advancement of that horn.
Here's a vote for the smaller throated horn. Much more variation of tone color, as it sweetens up with higher overtones as requested by you. You can shape each note at will. Also much cleaner articulations. It sounds like a lovely responsive trumpet should sound. The larger throat sounds a bit flabby, honky and lifeless to me. Beautifully warm in its own way but lacking in the nuance, precision and shimmer I like in a trumpet. If I wanted that sound, I'd get it better on a flugle.
Hi and thanks for the video! u sound great as always, I was wondering your feeling about the two different bells, do you prefer the little one because of the ease when you play ? does the other requires more effort ? thanks!
No the horns play with the same amount of resistance but I preferred the crispness of the medium bell and the response behind the bell (from the player's perspective). Funny everyone else in the shop liked the sound of the large bell though.
Trent, I read on Trumpet Herald that the Tumultus is harder to play (requires more air) than other trumpets, e.g. Bach Strad, Edwards X-13, etc. Can you comment? Thanks. P.S. My vote goes for the L bell. It is the warmest sound I've ever heard from a trumpet!
I'm no longer on TH so I can't comment there but I find the Tumultus exceptionally easy to play. The X13 might be a bit easier overall but that also is arguably my favorite non-Adams on the market.
The large bell sounds amazing!!! Well, they both do but I LOVE the sound of the big bell.
12:48 is the reason to buy this horn.
Thumbs up for the larger bell in particular. It's easy to tell them apart. I preferred it on every excerpt.

I liked the larger throat bell for móre fullness. The smaller throat sounded more çonstricted,, but maybe easier to play!?

Absolutely! I won my KCJO audition on one!
Those are both really amazing! How could you chose??
I prefer the more buttery, diffused sound of the larger-belled instrument, by far!

@@austincustom The Selmers were great too
Only way I'd play a duet with you is if played the small bell and I played the larger. The larger is a monster.

@@austincustom Matter of taste I suppose... I honestly prefer the sound of the big one too! Haha thanks for the awnser
I think I perceive a quicker response in the smaller bell, which I like a lot.
Hey Trent, did I hear you correctly in saying that the large bell was a brushed satin lacquer and the smaller bell was just a matt?
Great to see your post in this video the large bell is satin matte and the medium Bell is brushed
@@austincustom ok thank you. I’ve been watching these videos so much.
I hear the difference - I want the big bell!
would you like to hear a mixed audio version of one of these trumpets? Check out this YT video I just posted. ruclips.net/video/XBe5794CCzE/видео.html

Good to know. Thanks 🙏🏻
Follow up: In terms of just warm tone, which trumpet is warmer...the Tumultus L or the Edwards X-13?
Thanks!
Totally different instruments. Hard to beat either. Maybe Tumultus L bell is darker by a bit but x13 more versatile and by a lot.
Interesting. Thanks.
The smaller throat horn is killer! Damn, so creamy!
Larger bell more full sound my choice be the larger bell
Gf mouth piece wow love it
