Yeah here’s the legal hack around it People these days either credit the original artist ahead of time, so if it goes to court they are already written in as a writer and recipient of royalties, they just have to send them over Orrrr there are ways you can lower the legal seriousness (so to speak) by recording playback through speakers, instead of directly taking a songs file, or you can interpolate a melody, or even sample a cover version that would cost less/ have lower chance of coming after you I can guarantee this was just randomly lifted off Soundcloud and nobody asked, it’s a good policy to do whatever you want and then if the song blows up it’s worth it regardless
Hope the dude gets compensated, that’s kind of fucked if they just stole a lesser known artists sample without clearing it. If it was my song they sampled without permission or even notifying me at all, I’d definitely try and get what I was owed.
