TL:DW If you hated Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 because it was mostly setup for Part 2, you'll hate Lightfall
To be honest, felt like the case since Forsaken came out.
If you play video games primarily for the story, you probably don't play Destiny (10 year vet, unfortunately)
Disappointing considering the price
@@DreadedLad88 the issue is the gameplay has gotten substantially worse, too
@FlashesSoccer011 strand sucks (early first impression) but the gameplay is still great besides that. Just have to rely on good weapons more
For the new or returning players who want to catch up with the story, on the top right corner of the overall map you can read a quick summary of what happened in every season until now
Yeah, but it doesn’t give great detail then if you were to play the actual Seasons. This is why I hate the Seasonal Model cause it’s as many have said, Destiny is not good for returning and new players. Luke Smith destroyed this game with his “had to be there when” bullshit logic that Bungie continues to this day.
It sucks that they have removed like 80% of the story up to this point... For players who strictly play on PC, they can't experience Destiny 1 at all, which isn't VITAL to the story, but it's still part of the story, Destiny 2 is missing literally all of the beginning and middle of the entire story up to now, all the way up to Forsaken is just.... gone and can't be experienced by any new player today....
@@ResidentRecon89 yeah it's confusing to throw all chips in on story and then make it hard to follow or access the story 😂
@@samuel57501 and alot of what they removed was fun still
@Samuel Albright you can't plplay any of the story up to forsaken? What happens if you buy those expansions? The content just isn't there?
Things I think you needed to make note of:
1: Strand is not unlocked for full time usage until the end of the campaign. When it is, you'll find that it behaves very differently in terms of cool downs and uptime compared to its brief moments of usage during the campaign.
2: As with previous expansions, the campaign story is just the jumping off point for the actual story which will be told through the season pass. Without a season pass, there is no meaningful story continuity between the existing expansions of Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, The Witch Queen, Lightfall, and presumably that will continue with the next major expansion due out next year. And that also means that you can't play most of the actual preceding story even if you do purchase the previous expansions because all seasonal story content is removed at the end of each yearly cycle.
That sounds honestly awful
The story is actually ass. It’s a HUGE step down from The Witch Queen. You can’t say that the campaign is just a jumping off point. This was supposed to be Infinity War and they couldn’t tell a decent story in 5-6 hours of gameplay.
I refuse to sink another dollar into this game.
@@satevo462 don’t like seriously this isn’t a airport no need to announce your departure
@@colin3015 yeah definite story let down on a better note the gameplay changes and strand are sick as fuck
I haven’t played since Forespoken and it was very overwhelming to start back up. What I decided to do was transfer everything I could from 1 character and start it from scratch. You’re at light 1600 and you get to learn the basics all over again. It doesn’t tell you where to go next but if you’re like me then after you finish the tutorial then go to Mars to start Shadowkeep. You start to get used to playing again with your abilities and weapons and get a general feel of Destiny again.
I'm a Destiny veteran... I play this game a lot but I still appreciate this video, it's nice to see the perspective of someone new/coming back...
That's dope
For long term Destiny players, this feels like we were marketed as getting Infinity War, but what we actually got was She Hulk
OMG!🤣😂
Lightfall is very mid. It is a shadow of the quality we got in Witch Queen.
That being said, there are some great parts of it and it's definitely not the worst DLC we've got in D2.
For the price tho it's not worth getting right now
@@Blokeface If you pay full price it's honestly your fault. Just buy a key. I got it by 15 € less
This is only really the case for the campaign for me. I absolutely love everything like the exotic missions and freeroam
Oh god no, 50 bucks is waaay too much for a DLC, Witch queen by far is favorite
$50 dollars is too much. Get a job
4:08 also for anyone coming back after a while. Arc, solar, and void class abilities got reworked.
in 2020 they had the New Light Initiative. I got to play all old content from the main campaigns so I played The Red War, and the other expansions up to Forsaken. It was fun playthrough and it went away after the Great Destiny Vaulting when Beyond Light came out. had a blast getting caught up during season 11 Season of Arrivals. The last season in Shadowkeep.
I was actually midway through my first playthrough of the Red War when it got vaulted. I paid for it too so I'm still salty.
@@AnCoolUsername as you should be. I'm not game designer or network systems engineer and Destiny is unique in a way, but I know all other MMOGs don't have shutter all old content much less content that was, at the time, less than 3 years old. I got cheated out of 1 and a half DLCs and while this seems pretty exciting I could never give them more of my money.
Tormentors on legendary difficulty are terrifying at first. Later on, they are still a decent challenge. You really have to pay attention to it once it enters the arena.
Just melt it with izanagi+rocket swaping GG ez
you can lock him in an endless jump up on thing/ jump down off thing animation really easy
you can just make them run off ledges too 💀
@@Trickafi just blind them with disorienting nades and they turn into no threat at all
Try a trace rifle out, they melt through them pretty quickly
Nice to see you guys covering this game and especially to hear the positive experience yall had coming back. Alot has changed since this game first released.
A lot still needs to change.
Yeah.. the new mod sustem killed all the decent builds if you're a titan.

A lot of changes since last season not just since d1 lmao dumbass
Love your guys’s work! Keep it up!
Will do thanks
The daunting thing is always how much you have to catch up on to get back in. I'd rather pick up a new game entirely than feel like I have work to get back to the top.
It’s all good, Bungie won’t let you catch up. They’ve vaulted all paid content.
Everyone's level starts at the same place every year. There's no rush to catch up to anyone
@@liersenic one of the many reasons I left Destiny. Taking my content I paid for is unacceptable. But people defend it and say, “it’s not like you’ll ever play them again.” It doesn’t matter. I paid, so I’m entitled to the product I bought and paid for.
Lol the destiny classic. It went from getting stronger every day, to fighting every week to feel as strong as you used to be over and over 🥴
Most destiny 2 content creators felt this was a step back from what they delivered in Witch Queen expansion
You did a great job at scratching the surface Jake! Solid advice all around really; my only complaint would be the ho-hum footage, since a powered up guardian would be literally destroying everything on screen.
I’m disappointed the expansion proper isn’t living up to expectations, but I’m willing to see where the seasonal content goes. Seraph alone could have sold me on WQ, so I’ll hope to give the overall expansion at least a middling opinion as I get more into it.
People overhyped the F out of it
The vex stuff and neomuna focused missions should’ve been a season, they announced officially (before it was a maybe) that there will be another year of content after lightfall but before the final shape. I feel a lot of time and focus got wasted and plenty of things were never even remotely explained well, like why is strand so plentiful in neomuna? What are the veil or radiant mast? Why was Calus made a disciple only to be set up to fail?? Wtf happened to the travller? I did enjoy the combat of the campaign but overall the story was a let down and neomuna looks good but is just ok as a patrol zone imo.
Lookup some builds for the new system and I guarantee you'll have some fun
@@fatbroccoli8 no that was bungie my dude lol
Bungie makes dog shit filler content. They're incapable of producing good product.
As a hardcore destiny player since 2014 I don’t hate this video, you always with every game you review are honest and give genuine impressions of each game 👍
Love the videos Jake and Bird man Appreciate the content you guys make Please never stop doing what you do Best Job ever!

A general rule for new players: don't use double primary weapons.
I’ve had my ups and down with D2 but I really love this game, I always come back to it, not to mention the friends I’ve made while playing. It’s great with friends, if your more of a solo player it’s rough.
Just give it a try, and try not to spend money on its cause once you do, don’t think you’ll stop for a while.
I stopped it after witch queen, the seasons felt repetitive and in the end the story sometimes felt underwhelming and mistakes are never learnt with bungie
@@JoesSmirkingRevenge i agree with you there, more times if feels like they take one step in the right direction and two backwards. I’ve just come to see it as a part of a live service game.
I can’t even recommend it. The price to entry is absurd
How are you going to play it without spending money?
@@PeopleRTheProblem it’s advertised as a free to play game, there are things you can do and play without spending money, but it won’t be as fun as the paid content. At the end I said don’t spend money cause you won’t stop for a while once you do.
Necessary to watch before you invest in this update - Thanks Jake 🙏

The original Destiny will forever be one of my favorite times in gaming. Destiny 2 just never did it the same for me. Can’t help but miss it every update
I’m with you, something about destiny 1 just hit different
@@parkeringold1485 the loot cave
All nostalgia
@@bloovy3025 nah. I have hundreds of hours in destiny 1 but with destiny 2 I didn’t even reach 30 hours
Same. I have friends who want to go back to Destiny 1 and if they do, I’ll go back to it and play it. I’m probably in the minority but Destiny was better under Activision cause Activision was keeping Bungie from doing scummy business practices and wouldn’t have allowed them to transition to the Seasonal Model and they wouldn’t have allowed them to monetize Transmog etc. which is why D1 didn’t have a Seasonal Model, they didn’t have the 50 monetization avenues they have now, they we’re actually forced to put quality over quantity.
i love the fact this channel covers stuff like this, i havent played destiny in forever but now seeing this and seeing some gamplay im hyped to try it. Thanks gameranx
I think by order the expansions were
1.Curse of Osiris
2.Forsaken
3.Beyond Light
4.Shadowkeep
5.Witch Queen
6.LightFall
And then they vaulted the first 2 while sunsetting half of the stuff we've gotten from the base game where the Red War happened.
I still play D2 almost everyday. The lore and the solid game play have been awesome since 2014
👌👍🏼
Yep
I hop in and out for different seasons depending on how the game seems at the time, but I’ve kept up with the game since the start of D1 and it really is something you just can’t get anywhere else. Even after taking a few years breaks before witch queen it felt great to hop back in
that's an old game, why aren't you playing D4?
Im sorry
The story is pretty daunting to jump into if you're new to this franchise. If you're interested, Evaze and/or My Name is Byf channels have summaries which can be immensely helpful. I'm sure there are others who delve into the lore. RUclips is a powerful tool.
The evade lore video is amazing to ger caught up. Just happens to be about 5 hours long. So much content.
Yeah watching lore videos is basically a requirement if you really get into this game.
Imagine playing a free to play game and then paying for that game also. And also imagine having to look up a guide in order to play. CRINGE.
Shouldn’t take Byf to make the story enjoyable. Ever since Destiny 1 was released the story was mediocre at best. It’s so tiring
@@uzukhere are lots of games that you have to youtube to kinda understand what’s going on. doesn’t mean they are bad at story telling.
Been watching your BYB's for a long time, love them, and I really enjoyed the pause from talking to watch a bit of gameplay with the original audio. Keep up the good work guys!
To get the best raid gear be prepared to either do a lot of homework to know your role so you're not the one that holds everyone back or just be a casual player that knows theirs a MUCH bigger and better loot that you're missing out on. When I played there was no auto que for raids, even though I knew how to do them a lot of mic communication was necessary because theirs multiple ways people like to do them. It can be annoying queuing a team that wants/knows how to go all the way, lots of drop in and out players.
I've always wanted to play Destiny 2 and I've been stepping out of my comfort zone of the usual cosy management and heavy rpg games so this vid really helps!
The gameplay looks amazing and it definitely looks like something I'll not want to put down for a while after trying it out 😅
👍🏼
After only a few hours, everything is frustratingly repetitive. Even when you see a new enemy type, it’s just another damage sponge in a different shape.
@@nitemare20000 make a build. I thought the same until I found the right weapon for the right content. Definitely better with friends.
@@nitemare20000 Yeah I've played Fallout 76 and had this same problem 😅
What John said in the above reply is a cool idea. Creating new builds and characters always gives me a new way to play and see the enemies in a different 'light' if that makes sense.
I got into it like 3 weeks ago thx to ps plus, and got like 40h in it already, the gameplay is addicting and so far im having so much fun, its a bit confusing at first but you slowly learn, and this update made loadout building a lot easier.
I love the parts where the audio drops too-it’s like Jake just wanted everyone to hear to glorious wallops of the Sunshot again
I think the witch queen story is better than the lightfall story but everything else about lightfall is better. The lightfall content, loot, and patrol zone are all really good and the season of the defiance is pretty solid as well. Witch Queen by far had the better story tho.
Nice to see appreciation for the Sunshot, the ONLY exotic I use since it was revealed.
It's this review that made me wanna try out Destiny 2 vanilla and wow I'm loving it so far. I've been wanting a looter shooter that looked and felt more mature than Borderlands, which I've gotten pretty sick of. So this is a nice breath of fresh air. As for the DLC itself maybe somewhere else down the line. I feel like I need to enjoy as much of the base game for free as possible before I even entertain the idea of getting DLC seeing as there's already so much to do anyway.
We got the dlc free on playstation so i downloaded destiny 2 again im excited
Tough not to see the Paz Vizsla running around in the gameplay with The Mandalorian on the brain 😅
1:09 Don't worry, every true hardcore player got mad already at the footage of double primaries and left on the first seconds
I like how new players love the game more than Veterans atm lol
This is definitely a subpar DLC for sure. Definitely one I will be advising all my friends to wait for a sale. I feel scammed buying the Deluxe edition.
Cannot satisfy anyone. One of the only games that allows you to keep stuff you grind for all these years. Instead of giving you a game that makes everything you did fpr the past years obsolete and start over from square one. It's not for everyone. I have been disappointed in the past with it but always come back. Challenge is through the roof now
Just a heads up, in the destination tab on d2, top right corner, theres a d2 timeline to kinda get u up to speed on the story so far
I've always been a D2 fan, but never really had the time or money to pay for dlcs on launch day, but always kept watching all the cutscenes on yt to keep up with the story, well, I'm almost done with college and have a job, so now I'm pretty happy to play the dlc since day 1, and I would give a 4 out of 5 to this update
Diablo 2 > Destiny 2
I stopped playing Destiny 2 after beating the first raid!
In marvels terms We were promised avengers infinity war and then next year an end game level of a finale But all we got was the last antman …
I remember the night Destiny one launched, playing with friends and talking through all the hypothetical story expansions that could release on the 10 year roadmap of the game.
Old Destiny player here. The new Commendations system is quite awesome and encourages supportive gameplay/feedback.
👍🏼
The game is fun but to enjoy all of the content you have to make it your main with little time for other games.
I played Destiny 2 at launch and loved the Red War campaign but fell off HARD after that. I've tried a few times to get back into it but always felt a bit like a fish out of water, I guess? Trying again with Lightfall and I'm hoping I can find that spark again
Biggest issue, I haven't unlocked any new subclasses, been playing since start and ONLY found out I have to unlock them through stories.
I never played Destiny 2 but this game does look amazing I enjoyed the gameplay Jake
👍🏼
I certainly wouldn't pay any money for it or expansions
Don't. Just don't, friend.
1:40 it is 2nd to last the last expansion is called “the last shape”
My Destiny 2 story: I binged through the first 6 campaigns when they were on Game Pass and I really enjoyed them. Then I stopped playing for a while. But a friend of mine is a die hard Destiny 2 player and he would always be telling me about the game, so it was on my mind. Then last year Witch Queen released and the reviews looked awesome. That expansion went on sale and I picked it up. I loved that campaign, but then I didn't go much further. Then I decided to actually get into the game, specifically with the 18th season: Season of Plunder. This was an incredible pirate-themed adventure and I loved every second of my time with it. I was in, ready to play each following season. Then I realized that between Destiny 2, my full time job, and my at-the-time girlfriend, I had almost no time to play single player games, which are my favorite kind of game. So I dropped off during Season of the Seraph. But now, with how cool this expansion looks, I'm debating whether or not to get back into it. Seeing the gameplay reminded me of why I loved this game. Now the debate rages in my mind.
I haven't played Destiny consistently since D1. Without the old fireteam it's just hard to get into every few years when I hop back on.

I’m a Destiny mega-fan, been playing since D1 and I was not upset in the slightest by what you guys said! It was nice to get a perspective that wasn’t in the “Destiny sphere” already.
I love this channel, NEVER change and I hope you guys NEVER have a falling out EVER!!
Needed this video before I buy
I played Destiny when it first came out for like 2 weeks and than never touched it again, I’m always interested in what’s going on with it though 🤔 you guys have been busy 😂

Just got strand outside of campaign. I am on hunter and have to say that there deff needs to be some sort of cd adjustments on the grapple, at least in pve. At 50 discipline, it has a cooldown of 1 minuet, which feels like it defeats the purpose. Considering that was their huge gimmick for Strand. I would also have to say that the story is kinda mid, I mean we all knew the butler was the murderer all along!
Good to know I'm not the only one still using Sunshot in 2023 lol. Good video, I'm enjoying the game so far despite all the negative reviews on steam.
Pretty much the only review I trust on here. Thanks for the consistent videos!

I returned to destiny with this expansion and loving it. Bought the beyond light and witch Queen campaigns on sale so will be going through those too. Really fun game.
Noted.
You're running double primary for the campaign...nothing you say matters based on that alone.
I like destiny. Started with D1 on PS3 then migrated to PS4. Played D2 and was hooked. Then came the raids and other stuff. Problem is you need a party to complete that stuff and I don’t have one. Sure, you can play with random players but then you have to know what to do and be able to communicate. It’s a little difficult to do when the only time you have to play is at night while everyone is sleeping.
You gotta love when the first video is actually the one you were looking for

@@tablettablete186 this is exactly what happend to me. Bought the base game and played it through having a good time. Picked up Osiris and had to take a break. Finished that campaign but never got around to the raid then took another break but pre-ordered war-mind. Came back to check out War Mind once then had a kid. Came back 2 years later and not only was Osiris, which I still had fun stuff to do in gone, but War Mind too! A WHOLE DLC, gone?!
Fuel to fire, in my confusion I jumped on reddit and asked if this was the case. When it was confirmed, and I said it was silly to dump content I had paid for, players flamed me telling me it was my fault..... like not only technically (which they were right. Technically becauae im sure thats tucked nicely into th EULA) but on principle as well. I was wrong for expecting to get what I paid for on moral grounds!!!
I knew then that if I ever did go back, very unlikely, I would have little interest in playing with that community again. BTW the "I'm waiting" was for my expectation of someone from the community coming on here to flame me again..... not that I'm waiting to get back on.... that apparently offends Bungie greatly.
@@NotThatGuy_YepThatGuy Damm, you even got gaslighted by the community. I feel sorry for you.

So, over 2 years later, she couldn't take it anymore. I didn't want to do anything else. So, believe me, i understand this Addictive thing about Destiny.
