  • I have played the campaign in a 3 person team on Legendary difficulty. I have done most of the steps to get the exotic glaive. I have experienced a good amount of Neomuna. I have played Berserker Titan for Strand. I have not messed with mods as much as I want to, nor have I re-built my armor sets. With all that being said, let's talk. Closed Captioning is currently processing, but it's a long video so it may take a while, sorry about that.

    The trailers made me feel like this was going to be like mass effect 3. The reapers are here, we've been preparing the galaxy for this moment, stakes couldn't be higher, and everyone in the galaxy knew that. It was serious mode.
    Yet aside from the beginning cutscene showing off how powerful the witness is, it just felt like a big nothing burger. It was just, like you said, extremely unfocused.
    Also, anyone notice how no one knew what strand was, then out of nowhere, everyone called it strand and started talking about it like it's been a thing forever

      Best way I've felt to describe it is like we're getting the bullet points for a filler arc. Also, there's lots of things that bug me about the story, but why the hell didn't we have a cutscene for entering Neomuna? Perfect opportunity. Have us jump in the Cabal drop pod, and swap to a cinematic where we breach the clouds, cut black, impact, fade in as we pull ourselves out of the pod to see this magnificent city laid out before us as Calus's flagship makes its descent.

Look at his reaction to receiving dawning cookies, that’s why he never bothered me personally. Also WQ introduced maybe the biggest shakeup in destiny’s history with Savathun taking the light and creating her own guardians. The witness wants the traveler, but we’ve met several enemies who’ve wanted the traveler so to me it doesn’t quite feel as much like an “oh shit” moment. The solo experience of the campaign seems in many ways, at least to me, a polar opposite to playing with friends. I found the lightfall legendary difficulty way more forgiving than Witch Queen so I found myself actually enjoying the contents of the mission instead focusing all my attention on solely not dying. The only exception to this was every time strand was a compulsory part of the mission. I find it so bizarre that Datto thought that getting strand in the campaign was the fun parts cause every time it was given to me I felt like a piece of paper waiting to get torn to shreds. That vex training simulation felt like a huge callback to the Witch Queen campaign again where I couldn't enjoy the mission and instead had to focus on solely not dying. Thankfully getting fragments after the campaign solves this and strand becomes pretty fun. As for calus, again another opposite to playing with friends. Soloing him is ridiculous at times especially with the double tormentors during the middle of it. I haven't done the campaign multiplayer but I imagine its a much more fun experience overall.

I was able to beat the campaign after all day and THEN I realize my progress didn’t save for those 7 or so hours I had played that day. I was furious. Tried playing myself today and it’s stupidly hard and I hate strand. 7 times out of 10 I’m literally falling off the map using the strand grappling. I don’t like it at all. The gameplay is basically a crazy bullet sponge of a boss and constantly respawn 50 ads every 30 seconds. Playing the campaign on solo, I can assure you Calus phase 2 did not feel like a joke. I guess it's the fact that he has to focus on multiple guardians when you're teamed up, but solo phase 2 felt like a constant struggle to get away and find windows to inch out damage, combined with the constant Psion spawns taking even more of that time. Honestly thought they need some serious adjustment for solo, because the strat seems to be kiting them with their high health pools (along with immunity from DOT and explosions before pauldrons are removed) and keep them at range. You can't really challenge them close because of the "finisher" they can execute and almost kill you even with high resilience as well as suppressing you out of supers and removing jump ability (this is especially punishing when levels almost require double jump or grapple to evade tormentors in the first place). Range attacks are annoying but easy to avoid if you remain mobile, but I never felt like I was enjoying an encounter with Tormentors. I always felt like I was running..... like all the time. Remined me of the Calus fight especially in phase 3.

But what about the immunities before enrage? And the void slam attacks that suppress? In terms of everything else I said, it still seems like a significant difference other enemies. I will admit, after fighting them on any other class that wasn't Hunter they are slightly easier (mostly in terms of survivability), but regardless, they aren't really that fun to play. They remind me of unstoppable champions (if you couldn't stun them). Face tank a ton of damage and never stop chasing you. You literally can't back petal and shoot them at the same time safely (when enraged). You have to turn around, find another place to set up and do some minimal amount of damage. Bigger arenas lessen this effect, but you are almost never alone against a Tormentor. I also think new players on normal difficulty or even some fireteams comprised of newer players playing legendary are going to be ill equipped to handle them like veterans can.

It can be tricky to get consistently, but once you get used to the timing, you can just gun them down, especially with linear fusion rifles, as they one shot the pauldrons, and outright kill miniboss Tormentors in 1 mag and a couple shots.

    When hearing the details about Lightfall, I honestly thought the story had a huge theme set up about life and sacrifice. The cloudstriders choose to be protectors and then have a time limit to live. The time they have is dedicated to protecting Neomuna and its people at the literal cost of their lives.
    Compare this with the guardians, who were chosen and mind wiped (technically) but we still choose to protect our home.
    Then we have Osiris, who was once a guardian and lost his friend and ghost Sagira, when overestimating his enemy.
    Now, with these characters, all coming together, at the same time that Neomuna is discovered and invaded, as well as the traveler being attacked, you would think that these ideas would be heavily explored. Destiny has done it before with other themes. I guess I'll have to see what the season story holds

    I don't doubt Bungie's ability to make final Shape a satisfying conclusion, because they definitely can, witch queen is proof of that, but I am wondering what went wrong with Lightfall's campaign. For me personally, I felt that strand was too big of a focus and it ended up hurting the story more than benefiting it. I also felt that the campaign was too short. In Witch Queen, we didn't just do all 8 story missions, there were interlude quests like the pools and other things that extended the campaign while also adding onto it in a positive way. In Lightfall, it's pretty much just the story missions and the one strike and that's it. I'm enjoying the party campaign story stuff and activities, but neomuna definitely doesn't feel as exploration worthy as the throne world and certainly isn't as big as the throne would or Europa.

    • @ahreuwu
      @ahreuwu Год назад +6

      I actually disagree, feedback on past DLC's was pretty set on the fact that people didn't want to do patrols and bounties in the middle of the campaign. Lightfall lets you just buzz through all the campaign missions back to back, minus the strike that's basically just a campaign mission (with campaign levels of lore drops) that they formatted to be replayable. I 100% felt that Lightfall campaign was too short, I took my time exploring and seeing the visual art, and it still only took about 5 hours. TWQ for reference was a 12 hour completion for me, and I run both on contraverse warlock.
      And re: patrol space size+activities, we're still in week 1, we still don't have the post raid content. We know there's probably more coming next week too (based on the time gated fragments). I felt that Neomuna's patrol was bigger than Throne World and WAY bigger than Europa, it's just that Neomuna doesn't have that much on the "secondary" zones. Each of the three main areas are massive, but only the current vex invasion zone with the glorified public event feels populated enough to warrant the big space.
