My neighbor has an Ioniq 5 loaded with luxury features but only RWD. I have to say it is the quietest car I've ridden in on the highway and the seats are a soft leather that reminds me more of older American luxo-barges, or perhaps a living room sofa. It drives great. Acceleration isn't crazy fast being a single motor model, but it is more than respectable. I can imagine it's a lot of fun with more than double the power.
I'm sure it's just coincidence that if you close your eyes while watching this, it sounds like you're at Dave & Buster's..😅
This is the EV I'd buy. I love this concept.
Talk about a swiss army knife! Functions like a hot hatch or SUV, drives like a supercar.
I bet someone who builds pro racing sims worked on this. Now they need to build one with a clutch pedal and h pattern shifter. The racing game sounds are cool, but I'd love to be able to switch from a Ferrari V12 to a RB inline 6 turbo.
Love the Scotty Kilmer intro! Lol
Time for JRGo Channel!
This is my cyberpunk dream car honestly. Not that I will ever have one, but it's a beautiful vehicle.
JR: I want to work on super cars.
Us: We want you to work on 20+ year old shit boxes. 😂
Give me an old Civic or Camry any day!👍👍👍
Yep, I am old now. This was cool and I would have loved it in my 20s and 30s but now I'm just , meh. Give me a mint condition late 80s BMW 3 series with the straight 6 and a manual and I'm happy.
One thing I always liked even with the regular I5 is that you can turn off (fully) all nannies so you can do full on AWD drifts. Compared to even a Tesla which doesn’t let you have any fun, ID4, polestar none of them really feel like they wanted the enthusiasts to have any fun.
Wel if I were to get an EV, this would be the one. But I’m not ready, neither are the batteries. EV’s have amazing power, tech and comfort but range and recharge time still lacking for the type of long distance driving I do. Not a lot of charge stations as well. But all the N series cars look good, sporty etc. N division knows what it’s doing. Just because I’m not an EV fan yet, I still enjoyed this video.
So,OP, the Lucid Air with its 500 mile range is just too short for you? What will you say when the battery tech gives us 500 miles range and 10 minutes 'to full tank' in every EV at any price point? That is coming on FAST
"The price of the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N starts at $67,495. " LMAO......entry-level Stingray starts at $69,995 for 2025
He's a patsy for the Chinese.
In 'murica yes, in Euro land the Stingray is a €200,000 car. So the 5N is a good value for us.
Here in the Netherlands starting price € 73.995,00
650 pk (478 kW)
I'm curious how many actually cross shop these 2
@ettcha no one will, that's why it was a dumb comparison!
When these first came out I thought they were the size of the VW Golf’s but I was wrong. My local Hyundai dealer says it’s considered an SUV. But boy, It’s a retro looker.
I think it’s kinda close to the Golf’s size.. the 5N sure looks wider though! 😳
E cars are bullshit
Anyone promoting them are shills for the Chinese
The VW Golf keeps getting bigger every addition. Compare a mk 1 to a mk 8 . The mk1 is about the size of a yugo.
I love the orange color. Wichita has 500k in population, thought it was way smaller. Cool car.
It's like 650k in the metro, and the orange is 🔥🔥🔥
Metro area 647,919. So close enough.
I think it’s adorable that middle America feels that under a million is a big city.
Hyundai's "N" division has been doing awesome work in the last few years (You are right, BMW's M director left to go to work for Hyundai's N division). I personally own a 2023 Hyundai i30N Premium here in Australia but damn man, these Ionic 5 N's are like 115-120K AUD down here. No matter how fun it is, that price kills the enjoyment factor of it. I paid like 60K AUD for my i30N and the fun factor is still all there.
We don't even get the I30N here in the states. I'll never understand the reasoning why they have such different models in different countries. I think a lot of people here would be interested in a great performing EV that cost around half of what the N does.
@@mikelemoine4267 So, the i30N is not an EV, it's an ICE car. Equivalent to the Elantra N that you guys do get. I made the comparison because my i30N ICE car has the same amount of fun factor that the Ionic 5 N does but for 1/2 the cost.
@@Devastator0 Ah, thanks for the clarification. Honestly I didn't even know Hyundai had an Elantra performance variant but it looks like a pretty nice sports car with comparable power and performance to a past generation V8 Mustang GT, and it probably corners as well as or better than the latest Mustang. The Ionic 5N does have a lot more power and something JR didn't mention, a drift mode that sends all power to the rear wheels if one wants to void their warranty, but it comes at a hefty cost. Still, it would cost a lot of money to make a domestic muscle car keep up with it so not a bad value overall. Going fast isn't cheap! Cheers!
@@mikelemoine4267 We don’t even get the I30N here in Korea either 😂
@@mikelemoine4267 i30N in Straya is Elantra N in Murica...(Avante N in Korea)
Around town they are great and honestly that’s all I drive right now due to elder care commitments, that being said I still cannot get behind the whole electrified scene. I have just heard too many horror stories about charging, and in my area chargers are few and far between.
Eh, no difference with gas vehicle, I have to wait in line to fill gas either in car or scooter bike, the worse is scooter when you're behind a bloke with fart can exhaust that spew smoke to your face

OK! OP you have been reading only the stories that the Oil/Gas Car companies want you to read. Do some more and full research. Example; all new EVs will tell you where the chargers are. Tesla has the best EV charging system, PERIOD. Soon ALL EVs will have access to them. So, OP, might I SUGGEST you attend an EV demonstration event near you? Oh man, sounds like a JR car review WOO HOOO! Bet ya had some fun, watching now.
It was a blast... been trying to get this car for MONTHS 💯
Lil sister and mom bought almost matching 87 Hyundai XL 2 doors back in the day with the automatic. I drove lil sister's car with 4 of us in it, barely could do 60. 67hp, my 42 Jeep had 60, no wonder it was gutless. They certainly have improved since their early days.
Buy one used if you have to have one it will be worth about 40% of sticker the moment it leaves the lot.
Your life is a hyperbole.
Now that's the difference between a new corvette and this disposable piece of crap. In 5 years the corvette will still be worth what you paid , this thing you may have to pay someone to take it off your hands, that is if it's even still running.
@@paul5683😅corvette holding value??? Man i must’ve slept too long… i thought vetts value dropped fasters than a v6 camero….
@@paul5683fyi 5N sells for under 70 all day… corvettes are 120k for the good one… also 50-60k cheaper for a 5 yearold one…
@@paul5683 ican agree with value dropping , but I have to say I'm going on 264,743 miles on my 2017 ev and not a problem , no issues and the price in electricity compared to gas is still paying me back every year . at this point my vehicle rides like new and paid itself off long ago . were talking about value on vehicles you have to keep the miles off of virtually sitting and not enjoying . EV"s have come a long way in battery tech and charging . I also have and Ice vehicle which has good value for the most in real value in usage my ev is more efficient in all usage scenarios .
N division eh? Is that like HP's N class servers? Oh wait, that's old school like the sounds from this quiet electric ride. HAHA.
This is one awesome video. Hyundai had already hit it out of the park with the IONIQ5. The N version just takes it to another level!! That Soultronic Orange color looks awesome!
Soon to be “Made in America” at the Brand new Hyundai Mega plant being built outside of Savannah GA.
Sounds like a blast but 221 max range for $67+k... I'll hybrid it for way less and of course 0-60 3 seconds is just more than i need. Plus it looks cool but it also looks like every mid size SUZ with 21 inch wheels. It's a sleeper though. If you have your retirement in order and you otherwise just have money to burn then i'd go for it.
This is how you do a proper throwback 80s future looking car. Elon should take note.
Bruh a 70k dollar Hyundai 😂 nah im good. Funny thing is someone's going to make this financial mistake ,and try to trade it in a year later, and quoted 35k for trade in. Not to mention 36 month loan is about 2000 dollars a month @ 10% apr. Crazy!
I saw a fool in Maize yesterday driving a cybetruck. A fool born everyday.
This car in Canada starts at $80k with taxes that's $90k before any options, that is insane money for a Hyundai even if it is a fun one the auto industry is out of it's fricken mind.
Do they think average people can spend over their heads like the government.
@@flashnmb1it is not for the average person.
The price is...the price, but I would consider at least two things:
The company it keeps, the only other EV that would give it real competition in terms of fun and on track competence is probably a Taycan (more than double the price) and as far ICE cars that could be door-to-door with this on a drag strip (and still seat four) are things like an M3 ($85k+).
This will depreciate probably as badly as the tesla plaid mentioned because the sister Kia to this, the EV6 GT, can now be had in the high $30k to low $40k region. If this holds true for the 5N by this time next year I may be compelled to take the plunge.
At that price, I can’t see them selling too many of them.
That will like be true. I also imagine that was expected. Kinda like the top top top Mustangs go for well over 100k, and sell in relatively small numbers compared to a standard Mustang GT, or 4cyl turbo.
Same as base ev charger.... I'll take this if was into evs.
They are selling before or shortly after they even hit the lot at my dealer in Seattle. Lots of 911 owners and people who just want a fun daily.
Nobody wants to be seen in a Tesla anymore, these are such an obvious choice. There's already a crapload of the normal IONIQ's running around Portland-I think they're a good looking car.
You forgot the 10k dealer markup. They are limited production and markets in the IS right now. Only 1 available in all of Oregon. They use to have reasonable prices.
This car is awesome the price however is pretty steep!
It sounds like a lot, and it is a lot, but what would you pay for any other car with 600 horsepower?
beats a lot of ICE supercars (that cost 4X) in drag racing...
climbed up Pikes Peak with no derating...
Great review, Fun car, Scary price.
I always dug the original Ionic 5 since they first showed it off. The design was(is) striking vs all the lifeless blobs of all these other CUVs and EVs. Their design house has made some real bangers as of late: The new Sante Fe, that N Vision 74 concept.
People need to get the stick out of their butt about the badge. I once had a late 90s Elantra, I KNOW how SH-T they used to be!
What is wrong with these car makers? Can they ever make a basic car that is under 30k?
You can lease a more sanely equipped Ioniq 5 or 6 for about $400 a month.
it holds 5 SAE 'People, which is not most people. 3 Kids in the back, would work.
I came to the comments to read the triggered hater comments.
You were not disappointed! Amazing how many willfully ignorant people comment on these things.

People commenting about price! Guys its a HALO product, a niche offering. Ofcourse you can't compare it to bottom shelf offering from other manufacturers.
The amazing thing about dancing bear is not how well it dances, but that it can dance at all.
It's a good looking car that does it all. If I get an EV this will be the one simply because of the ICE feel when at the push of a button. Hyundai nailed it with this one and I'm sure the other EV makers will be copying soon enough 👍
It should come standard with Ioniq 5N specific floormats, embossed with N-logos and stamped with the side profile of the car.
In most European countries the car has a standard HUD and an optional panoramic sunroof.

Motorized charging door? Just give me the damn Focus.
Love the cool car and as always great video. Thanks JR.
It has a lot of neat features, but the fake engine sounds and shifting are really cheesy,
and something I would expect to see on a low end car, not on a car that is almost $70,000.
I do like the color and the seats look really nice. I know you mentioned that the Bose system
is really good, so I'm guessing that they did some improvements because the Bose systems
in the GM cars suck. Much the same as the Alpine that isn't really Alpine in the RAM pickups.
I started using Alpine back in the early 80's, and they made some great car audio components.
I would think that they would be embarrassed to have their name associated with the speakers
in the RAM pickups, but I'm sure they got paid a pile of money to do it. They were smart though,
because they don't put their name on the speakers themselves, just on the covers LOL.
it's just the same bose as always nowadays, just some input from some bose guy if to change or add something to qualify for the branding - same as harman kardon laptops. but if you get a loaner or a special deal you'll say it's the bestest evar.
Makes me wonder, since electric vehicles don't have an engine to heat up the engine bay how long plastic components will last before degrading.
I've seen at least two of those here in Narvik, Norway. A VERY small town by American standards (22.000 people in total).
Don't know if they were just passing or if they actually live here though.
Glad to see you took my recommendation for the navien tankless. Can’t wait for that install video.
Living in Kansas it makes sense that one is not optimistic about road tripping with an EV. I’m in the southwest, and do it all the time. 1000 mile round trips are no problem. Plenty of charging options for Tesla, and others manufacturers as well. Hang in there, the modern world is coming to middle America eventually. We may have to drag it into the future kicking and screaming, but rest assured, it is coming.
The master control panel for the driver door window switches looks soooo bad for a 66,000 car. Like REALLY bad. It’s giving Ford Escort vibes
But JR- if door handles are popped you KNOW the car is unlocked at a glance , it’s actually COOL
Well at least it doesn't have a theta engine to fail.
Not all Theta engines are junk.
Holy Smokes that Remote is big kind of reminds me of when you go to gas station ask for a key for the washroom and they chain it to the rim so you couldn't walk away with it. If you're a man and you own one of these don't think it will fit in your pocket. You're gonna have to get a man purse to carry it around or maybe it comes with optional wheels so you can trailer it behind you they probably could've made it bigger, but that would've been just stupid. I think they're compensating for something.
The electric motor on my plug in Porsche Panamera runs through the same 8 speed dual clutch gearbox that the ICE drives through.
I demand a Steam Train sound at acceleration .
This is basically the adult version of when we attached playing cards on a bicycle wheel as kids to make it sound like a motorcycle. Personally, I prefer real sound over fake sound.

I could never spend 70K on a Hyundai. Too much like a commercial then an objective evaluation. I doubt they will sell many.
They’re not trying to sell many. It’s a halo car. Not too dissimilar (as far as sales expectations go) from a Mustang Dark Horse, or Dark Horse R.

I dig the orange color and the dot matrix inspired tail lights. Other than that, I'm a no on this thing. Not because it's a Hyundai or because it's EV. I just hate most new cars because they're mostly ugly crossovers and they all have way too much annoying tech that's destined to break.
And I'm sorry... the fake engine noises are stupid
From Indy to the street: Push to Pass.
Pretty car, nice color, great performance. Needs big brakes because its 5000 lbs. Don't like the fake shifting and noise. After the novelty of the gimmicks wear off, would it lose its luster? Think I would rather have an i30N or Elantra N for half the price and twice the emotion.
I have a pretty small Honda Fit with factory 18's. It has a spare tire and the floor is lower than this one in the back. It doesn't have batteries though.
The false floor is so that you have a level floor with the rear seats folded. Don't forget, this has a whole powertrain underneath back there where your Fit has its spare tire.
@@bikeaddictbp I completely agree, except the flat floor. The seat wasn't actually flat, it was elevated. My fit does actually lay completely flat.
