- Spring rolls are popular traditional Chinese snacks. Back in the day, people eat spring rolls on the Li Chun Day, which is at the beginning of spring. In order to pray for good health, they call it “bite the spring.” Later spring rolls gradually become an everyday snack. Today let’s learn to make Vegetable Spring Rolls.

Make these, they are GREAT!! I made 15 and they were gobbled up right away! I messed up on two and tore the wrapper, so I fried them last, the veggies came out, of course, but I continued to cook the wrapper and veggies and just fished them out and piled the veggies on top!! It was SO good! I love delicious mistakes! Thanks for the recipe and technique!

Tried this today. I used the Vietnamese rice paper, added shrimps, tofu, lettuce, woodear, dong fen, beansprouts & spring onion! It's delicious, xie xie!

I used all the ingredients she said but it didn't come out like how the spring rolls at the takeout places make them (the only place I've eaten spring rolls from), and this is just O__O SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! woah.

Sometimes takeout places use cooked shrimp inside the spring rolls, too ... spring rolls don't have to be vegetarian.

If you are on a low-sodium diet, skip the pinch of salt and use half as much of those sauces. Notice she uses white pepper. Chinese use white only.
It seems like you used a lot of oil to fry there. What did you do with it afterward?
+Tran Nghia, I filtered out the oil. Cooled it down and saved it in a container. I plan to use it 1 more time for deep fried food. When that's done. I will put it in a container again and throw it away in the trash can.
Will it still taste good if I don't put in mushrooms?
You can use the ingredients you like. That will be fine. ☺️

Cici Li, love this video. It has been such a help. I’ve made spring rolls 5 times now (without mushrooms so far) trying to perfect consistency. Having trouble with wrapping. They just don’t look picture perfect like yours. Found my favorite wrappers at Asian store and forgot about mushrooms . Love them - added slivered water chestnuts to make up for missing mushrooms. Watched other videos you’ve done. You have a great personality and it really shows through. Makes those of us who aren’t crazy about cooking excited to try something new!

I love spring rolls. I avoid the cornstarch and used the others. I didn't have oyster sauce but used low sodium soy sauce. It came out great. I was rolling them wrong. Thanks for the video

It's interesting to see different people stuffing the spring rolls with different things. I made mine yesterday with minced meat, wood ear mushroom, carrots and onion :)
Here 3 years later,I made mine with chicken,ham and cheese they were amazing
If its got meat its not a spring roll they dont have meat

You can make the roll papers at home using a batter with wheat, cornstarch, salt and water and using a pan. Is not as good as with these, but it's quarentine times so you deserve eat it at home without having to drive this much for buying them

This is 99% vegan. If instead of using normal oyster sauce, you use "vegan oyster sauce", then this is 100 vegan, and it would not taste any different because the truth of the matter is that you can not smell any oyster flavor in the normal oyster sauce anyway, no matter which brands you use. Wonder why they bother to call it oyster sauce anyway?
By the way, using an air fryer could significantly reduce the fat content of spring rolls making much more healthier than the traditional deep fry method.

it's greek in origin.. filo pastry . goes back to ottoman empire. Turks and greeks, and Asia were inspired by the foods. hence samosas. specifically..greeks still have their traditional way of filling things so,really it's the fillings that are different. rolled same way(samosas)

Others should learn from you these excellent points: 1)ALWAYS speak, no music-only hands-only and no computer-generated voice 2)Tell the details about ingredients that are out of narrow Americans' knowledge 3)Background music is not just for 15 year old headbangers 4)Show text of ingrediant amounts and other steps so we can write it down while paused The only improvement I suggest is either add spoken sound track or speak at time of recording, nut don't mix - makes us think of old Japanese monster movies. You can also mention that baking is an option.

Always wanted to make spring rolls but was afraid to try, you made it look so easy! So will make them now. You asked what recipes we wanted, wow I thought no one would ever ask. I've been looking for a simple gravy reipe that I always get on Buddhas Feast in EVERY Chines restaurant, but can never find in Asian cook books or on line. If they do it's always a brown sauce not clear like in the Chinese restaurants here in the U.S. Could you please do a video on that?!?!?! Thank you in advance if you do.

2 oz = 1/4 cup
fry:
carrots, cabbage, mushroom, sliced snowpeas,
add oyster sauce (2 tbsp), 1 tsp soy sauce, salt & pepper,
pinch of sugar, chopped glass noodles
add portion of binder (1 tsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water in pan)
done = no water
let cool
in bowl: add 3 tbsp water + 2 tbsp flour (glue)
wrapper in diamond shape, put 2 tbsp of content
fold wrapper, each roll tuck in the sides, near the end tightly hold the roll and swab the glue to edges, roll to close wrapper

Wood ear mushrooms are sold dried in any Chinese supermarkets. Before cooking, we'll have to soak them in water over night.

Love the video. Are you using regular egg roll wrappers? When I look for spring roll wrappers, all that comes up is rice paper wrappers. Do you have a certain brand that you use?
Thank you for tuning in! One of the brands that I like is TYJ Spring Roll Wrappers. They are available in most Asian supermarkets by the freezer sections. You could also replace them with egg roll wrappers. Happy cooking! :)

Absolutely! You could replace them with other ingredients that you enjoy. 😊👍
To me, ginger is key. That’s what makes it taste like the take-out / buffet spring rolls. The first time I made them, I bought egg roll wrappers and I didn’t like them, but the filling was SO good, then the next time I made them, I bought the proper wrappers but I put too much vegetables, not enough noodle and ginger. Excited for the next ones I’m going to make!
