I had also heard that the Shepherd would use the “rod” to discipline the sheep when they would wander into dangerous areas or develop self harming habits as an analogy of how God disciplines us for our own good and safety. But I am not sure if this was actually the case or just someone’s wishful/creative thinking. 🤔
