Sadly, we are living in a truly narcissistic society today. Difficult to get through some days. I do believe we are in the last days and the fulfillment of "lovers of selves" has been fulfilled.

I'm certain that even defending oneself is against the calling of God upon us. If what he meant was, even when someone does you wrong, fo them no wrong in return, then he would have said that. But he points out the common phrase, eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. People STILL use this today to justify, as Christians, no less, the right to defend themselves if someone hits them or attacks them. Jesus attacks the hypocrisy at the source. The law, that is the laws that are prosecuted by man, and vengeance are not ours. They belong to the higher powers.
@@xavierthomas5835 , Regarding mitigation of an immediate threat , that would not be considered vengeance . If someone is an obvious and grave threat to a Child or is physically/mentally abusive towards their wife or children , someone stopping these threats ,even by force is not wrong. Phil Robertson gave a good story about turning the other cheek. He said, ppl kept stealing his fish, and that he actually caught a couple young men in the act. He explained to them that those fish were his way of feeding his family.. but he allowed the boys to keep the fish, and even helped them in getting the fish out of his net.. He said.. Before long, I noticed no one was stealing my fish anymore.
Even when Jesus let Himself be mistreated, He stood up for Himself and pointed out the wrong: "Jesus answered him, 'If I have spoken wrongly, testify of the wrong; but if rightly, why do you strike Me?'" (Jn 18:23) Stand up for yourself, but be a person characterized by Christlike mercy and forgiveness. Slow to anger (Jam. 1:19). Not reviling in return (1 Pet. 2:23). Enabling abuse is not okay, including when the victim is yourself.
@mdsoyabaktar Hi, Thank you so much for commenting. I would like you to consider three things as you continue to pursue truth: #1: this verse. ⬇️ 📕 Galatians 1:8 "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!" #2: Jesus' favorite term for Himself was "the Son of Man." The religious leaders of His day went livid at this label because they knew where He had gotten it from: 📕 Daniel 7:13-15 "I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, and He came up to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion, glory and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations and men of every language might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which will not pass away; and His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed. As for me, Daniel, my spirit was distressed within me, and the visions in my mind kept alarming me." #3: Consider how Jesus used I AM statements to validate who He was, referencing Exodus 3:14 ("I am"). One example is here: 📕 John 8:58 "Jesus said to them, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.'" If you sit with Genesis 3, Isaiah 53, and other texts detailing God's plan of redemption, it will be difficult to sleep due to the awesome glory and majesty of the God who saves sinners. Shalom to you. ❤️ Praying for you.
@mdsoyabaktar Hi, I like that you brought up the example in Ezekiel. The term "son of God" also refers to good angels in the Bible, like in Job 1:6. So I like talking about this. We have to note the definite article "the," of course. There are many "a" son of God in the Bible, but THE son of God refers to only one person: Jesus. Since you're quoting the Bible, I would just like to point out that places like John 1:1-14, Phillippians 2:6, and Heb. 1:8 clearly indicate Jesus' deity. I think even Muslims would agree on this, which is why many of them don't quote the Bible. But I commend you for investigating the Bible! When we bring preconceived biases into a text, it is called eisegesis. I used to do it, too. I would simply like to bring your attention to this fact, since you seem to be picking and choosing parts from a text instead of taking it as a whole. Muslim theology is very different from the biblical one. I dont think you need to keep quoting its admonitions at me since I know them too. (: Please feel free to know how I can better serve you in my comments as well, anything that bothers you, etc. If we let the Bible speak for itself, it is a treasure like no other. I have to go to bed now. I will try to comment again when I can.

It’s to plant a seed in the attacker. Everyone else would fight back somehow. Especially when they lose if we don’t strike them back, it plants a spiritual seed.
Thank you for the clarification on this passage. It has troubled me since I was young; now I am 55 and still trying to keep my reactions in check when criticized or ridiculed. Both of these happen frequently at my current place of employment, so please pray for me to have compassion and forgiveness towards the people who do this. We all need God's love and forgiveness, and none of us deserve it.
Turning the other cheek has to do with not being easily provoked into violence. Similar to when someone is challenging another to a duel with a sword or pistol. If a person is not in physical danger, then avoid violence by walking away. However, if there is the threat of violence and being harmed, or the need for actual justice, this a totally different situation.
Turning the other cheek is a little easier when offended by the lost world. When it comes from people in your church that claim to be followers of Christ it somewhat harder. You expect better from them. We attend a church where some people are loving and kind but some are just down right snotty. They treat you as if are less than them. We had a young woman who appeared to had suffered a hard life come to our church who made a profession of faith and joined our membership. My wife and I made a point to speak to her every Sunday but the earlier mentioned people never accepted her. She left the church shortly thereafter. My wife has suffered because of a church gossip. She did as the word and kindly confronted her. She acknowledged what she did but never apologized. We are running out of cheeks.
That is tough. One thing that makes it difficult is you see them more often and are supposed to be a close knit family. Similar to your siblings. Whenever they do something that hurts, it hurts that much more. Keep our eyes on Jesus and ask for grace to endure. :)

* This verse is related to the topic: Romans 12:19 NIV [19] Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
I like the Got Questions Ministries' content. Billy Graham once said that Jesus said to turn the other cheek and receive the second slap--but He didn't say what to do after that. One has a right and need to defend himself and others against sustained aggression. As to honor: A man may choose to forego avenging his honor; he would likely do well in all cases to follow that rule. However, if a woman or a child is involved, nothing less than a full recompense will do.
Thank you for this, I needed some clarity for where the line was drawn when it came to violence. As a martial artist who even trained under a Christian master, I’ve always wondered, is what I do ok, and this gave me clarity. There is a fine line between turning the other cheek to just letting people slug you and walk away without a care, as I can assure that not everyone will care what you say, and something will have to be done to get the message across. And there’s the fact that some people when you say to slap again will think you’re a masochist and maybe just leave in disgust, which works too but I don’t recommend if you don’t want a dead reputation so yeah, thank you.
Right cheek = Left hand. The left hand then was for bathroom activites. Being touched with it was worse than the right hand. He was telling people to make them harm you with their other hand. The proper societal hand. That is being a revolutionary & daring them to escalate their behavior. It is about forcing someone to show their true hand/side by repeating the action with the admirable hand. What was being said was, ‘I dare you to turn this into a real battle as peers’ Turning the *other* cheek is offering them a chance for the right hand to be used but if they do use the right hand, you are making them show the world you are not below them & you refuse to be made a subject to them. It is a battle between truth & hyperbole. He is asking people to not allow themselves to be treated with disdain with the bathroom hand. He is telling people to stand up to tyrany and make those people understand they are not better but equal. He is saying, ‘this is how you teach them they are not above you’. When acting like this, you are teliing the tyrant, ‘if you want to harm me, I will only allow you to attempt it, as my peer’. This is a how to show you will not be pushed around by anyone that thinks they are superior. It is not a passive story. It’s a warrior story. This is, ‘if you think you can treat me like I’m worthless, think again because we are going to be brawling if you do it again because we are peers and I can strike back’ If the Right hand was used, it would mean the person being harmed has an equal right to strike back and doesn’t not subscribe to the idea they can be harmed as an inferior.
To start things off in most translations Jesus doesn't say turn the cheek. He says if someone slaps you on the right cheek then turn your left. This is shown in the scripture that this Pastor quoted . However, he's correct when he says on the insult & we need God's help to do so(Romans 8:7). It was definitely metaphorical because in Matthew 5:29-30. It says your right eye & hand causes you to sin to cut them off. When Peter denied Jesus 3x, he didn't cut his hand or eye.
I believe it is - in part - a command to not ESCALATE a potentially disastrous situation. A person with evil intentions has determined to do harm and subconsciously looks for justification to go all out. A gentle answer ( or a path of least resistance) turns away wrath and works wonders to calm the rage.
Thank you, good clarification! I would only add we do need to be forgiving as we were forgiven, but you don't need to seek out abuse. Do not cast pearls before swine. If someone is only looking for the opportunity to blaspheme and offend, unless the spirit compels you, you don't need to incite abuse on yourself either if it will be fruitless.
In my opinion, you don’t wanna go beyond what is written. It’s talking about being slapped on the cheek, not shot with a gun or stabbed with a knife. Self-defense is not wrong. A Slap on the cheek or an insult is just that I would not take it beyond that when it comes to defending yourself or your family you do what you have to do.❤
I've been harassed by narcissistic people who I have gone no contact with because of their abuse. They have been constantly harassing me since trying to provoke me into acting out of character, trying to make me look crazy for separating myself from them, trying to isolate me from other people - just in general trying to drive me crazy. Please pray for my protection, for legal help to be able to get involved and that they will permanently leave me alone.
Think of whatever it is you love that could possibly be involved in the conflict they've initiated unto you, and fight with that love in your heart, not resentment -for love, not for blood.
It is unfortunate for some of us, but we learned the hard way I used to want to get revenge because I had been so hurt. I have now come to the point where I don’t care. It doesn’t matter a person has to grow in Jesus to be able to not want revenge. I do defend my rights however, I try not to do with in a manner of revenge.
Great lesson. I'm also glad that you have slowed your speaking down from what it used to be when you first started doing videos. You have much to offer and I want to understand it fully
I means that silence is the cross on which you must crucify your ego. Do not seek revenge. It does NOT mean roll over and let people do as they will. Your body and mind are precious to God and are mong His greatest gifts to you, and He would not let you allow others to simply destroy them.
Turn the other cheek to our brothers and sisters in CHRIST. HE also said "Vengeance is mine saith the LORD I will repay" HE also commands us not to be afraid. Another place it says "who made your back the road...." I believe this is something to ask HIM after all "HE is a very present help in time of trouble " "HE will not leave us as orphans in a storm" Remember this to will pass. I wouldn't let someone just beat me I would fight back it really depends on how dangerous the situation is. Some times it's wiser to look for an escape. GOD will make a way of escape. Once when a gun was being held to my head I said "well JESUS I guess this is it". HE said "don't move". HE caused some one to come along and yell "Hey" the gun was removed HE said "run" I ran.
Jesus specifically said "If anyone slaps you on the right cheek..." If you're hit on the right cheek by someone facing you, then likely it was a backhanded slap, since most people are right handed. A backhanded slap is not a serious attempt to injure; it's a provocation. I think Jesus is saying don't let someone tempt you into fighting them. This is what I was taught.
I was taught this too. Also, the first backhanded strike was to show their “superiority” over you. The second strike would be open handed, used for an equal. So by enduring the unjust provocation, they Prut themselves down, and show your strength of faith.
it quite simple means: don't seek revenge. If someone has wronged you, forgive them. Don't try to hurt them back. What it does NOT mean is to let people walk all over you, allow them to purposely harm you, or to not defend yourself against attack.
The way that I understand turn the other cheek is don't allow anyone to provoke you into a fight nor provoke you into any wrongdoing. It doesn't mean that you don't have the right to defend you or your loved ones if you need to because no other alternative is available at the time.
My brother a law asked me for prayers. Because he had to get an operation on his back. So I did that. Know he is out of the hospital. His wife told him a lye. So he believes it. So when he came home her cursed me out. I was so mad at him. I felt like I was betrayed buy my sister
As a youth one day walking home from school, a young man approached me and asked if I was a Christian and I responded, “yes.” Confidently raising his hand toward my face he said, “Well the bible says if someone slaps you on your right cheek I must turn to him also the left.” I very quickly thought about this impending conflict and then responded, “The bible also says. ‘Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.’ Before you decide to slap me you might want to consider which scripture I might be thinking about.” He slowly turned away and I don’t remember encountering him again after that.
There is more to "turn the other cheek". It is actually quite a subversive reaction, and rather defiant form of non-violent resistance. Under Roman law, a master could reprimand his slave with a backhanded slap on the cheek with his left (unclean) hand, but only once. The expected reaction is for the slave to cower in submission. In public, this presented an opportunity for the slave to dare the master to slap him again by turning the other cheek. If the master did so with his open right hand (making it unclean), he risked being fined because it was illegal. Of course out of this the slave has asserted his own dignity looking at his master as an equal, and the master is forced to halt further violence to avoid being humiliated himself. If the slave had hit the master back in retaliation, more violence would ensue and the slave would lose an opportunity to communicate the love of Jesus Christ to the master. Do not resist the evildoer, which can be taken to mean do not respond with violence.
This is interesting. I agree with you that it is about a form of defiance, but not so much motivated by a hatred of the person who has hit you, rather the desire to maintain and practice the same truth you had before you were hit - turning the other cheek is showing just a different side of the same face. It's not inviting a person to sin against you because it's all about how being 'smacked' affects your attitude. Jesus does not want you to cower and forsake your preaching or Christ like behaviour because someone doesn't like it. He wants you to keep unscathed what you know to be right. - carry on doing what you were doing for your sake. So, like you say, I think there is more to 'turn the other cheek' than merely not resisting evil which is mentioned just prior to these words anyway.
Turning the other cheek is a tactical move. Consider that first slap to the right cheek is a backhander, in this age ( as is now) its effeminate sign of weakenss to open hand slap someone. By offering the left cheek one has challenged the aggressor, who wont do it. The other two following tips are equally stretegic as well. Not saying the speaker here is wrong, just adding that there is more to it as well.
Since most people are right handed, a blow to the right cheek would be backhanded.. This is how one would hit a "servant`. Turning the other cheek would say HIT ME AS YOUR EQUAL.
Yeah, my understanding was that it was a public insult, and not an assault. I try to remember proverbs 12:16 when I think of turning the other cheek. A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted. Proverbs 12:16 NLT The culture says I'm offended, but the Christian is to be thick skinned (loving our enemy when hated).
It literally says, "If someone strikes you on the cheek..." This is not merely just about an insult, it is primarily about an assault but can be extrapolated to be referring to an insult.
@@-JesusisGod- This passage doesn’t need an analysis of ancient Jewish culture, and today’s culture is completely irrelevant to it. As I said, the text literally says that Jesus is referring to an assault because He says if someone strikes you on the cheek. That’s beyond an insult. Furthermore, the disciples exampled Jesus’ words because they were assaulted for the name of Christ and turned the other cheek. Acts 5:40-41 says, "…They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name." Jesus said that whoever rejects you (His people) rejects Him (Luke 10:16). This tells us that we are not to take any attack on us personally. God said, “Vengeance is mine, says the Lord, I will repay” (Romans 12:19). Obviously, God wants us to turn violence perpetrated against us over to Him. This verse also teaches us to turn the other cheek. In Acts 14:19-20, they tried to kill Paul. They stoned him and he responded nonviolently. We need to study the Bible to understand the Bible.
The context of that verse is love. IF it is more loving to let someone hit you then let them. But if it is more loving to defend someone then do that. Ultimately if we can get someone to accept Jesus by turning the other cheek then that should be our goal.
The Christian life is not difficult but rather, it is impossible. It takes a miracle to live according to the standard that Christ set for his followers. That is why we must continue to live IN CHRIST just like we did in that first moment when we threw ourselves onto his mercy and grace and we realized how desperate we were for God’s forgiveness and Christs amazing grace. Christ was beaten, tortured, and died a miserable death that included separation from God. Christ did that so we wouldn’t have to. When we remember the seriousness of our sin we can begin to understand the grace and love of God and our saviour Jesus Christ. I believe that we need to have this at the forefront of our hearts and minds if we are to live with victory and in the spirit of Christ.
Literally: in the first century in a courtroom situation, the equivalent of the prosecutor would employ a slap in the face by way of accusation. The advice is simply to not retaliate against a false accusation/official misconduct or overreach by hitting back. Sort of like not fighting back against police brutality. Same with "going the extra mile". LITERALLY Roman officials could compel a Jewish subject to carry their luggage fir them exactly one mile and no more, by law. Many Jews had mile markers set up near their houses in order to "enforce" this law. Jesus said to volunteer to go two miles instead; because this is what morally defeats the oppressor, if you do him good because you want to, not because you are under compulsion.
I think other passages that go along with this concept are the ones about shaking off the dust if you are talking to someone about the gospel and they will not listen. There is an obligation to walk away if they reject, not beat someone about the head and neck with a large print KJV bible, lol...which is the attitude ive seen from believers over the years. Preach the word....and know when to walk away. Fitting to that, is dont cast your pearls to swine or give what is holy to the dogs, lest they trample it and tear you apart....again, know when not to talk...when to walk away. These are instructions about the believers behavior...what TO DO in these cases.
As a Man, I sorta have a problem w/ this!!!! When someone slaps you upside the head for no particular good reason, I’m not gonna give him another shot!!!!:/ I would most likely retaliate and convey the message of DON’T YOU DARE DO THAT TO ME AGAIN!!!!! However, The lesson of turning the other cheek is not to hold Grudges and seek Peace instead of VENGEANCE!!!!! Always remember that Christ was selfless and that’s our example to follow!!!!!🙏🙏🙏
There is some "turning the other cheek" that is just part of being an employee... That can't be a person's entire response to all situations, however... "There is a time for every purpose under heaven" - Ecclesiastes...
This verse does not mean purposely walk into danger It does not mean continue to let things happen to you It does not mean to let others harm others It does not mean to justify those who do harm to you or others It does not mean to actually stand there and let them hurt you.
According to Walter Wink, the left hand was considered unclean, and would not be used in this situation. Striking with the right palm showed that the aggressor thought the victim to be his equal. The only way for someone to face you and hit your right cheek is for them to backhand you; thus, you would be “beneath” them. If you turn your other cheek, you assert your equality. They can’t use their left hand (unclean), and if they use their right, palm forward, they acknowledge you as an equal. Jesus was showing wisdom here.
Very same Jesus that exhorted us to "turn the other cheek" the very same Jesus that told us to "turn your cloak for a blade" At face value it seems like we have an consistency here, a contradiction... but when you look closely, you will see and understand the context that he's talking about, and it's clear... Turn the other cheek as a civil obedience exhortation, to simply not sweat the details... In other words, people getting your face with nonsense and it's for the most part trivial, and they're just blowing off steam - that's where you have to be meek, which is not weak, it is power under control. Turning your cloak and grabbing a blade on the other hand, is when things are outside of your ability to control and, as a man you have to discern when you need to protect yourself and your family. Fairly straight forward

It literally says, "if someone strikes you on the cheek..." That is not merely an insult. Dr. Martin Luther King demonstrated this. He was preaching this very passage and it was also about loving your enemy. Someone from the church pew walked up to him while he was preaching and punched him in the face. Dr. King did not retaliate. His entourage subdued the guy. Dr. King told them to let him go and never pressed charges. He continued his sermon.
@@statesman6379 I think we all agree that M.L.King did the right thing. His message surely was much stronger that way. Hitting someone to cheek, is not much. The Bible speaks many times about different, severe violent attacks. Surely Jesus knew how many carried a sword and knife. Staffs were also in use. Weapons carried to defend from thiefs, bad guys and wild animals. Then he said "is someone hits you to your cheek...". Jesus also used alot of metaphors etc. I think most likely interpretation is that this was, atleast partly, about insults. Jesus was telling his disciples to buy a swords. So, surely there were times when self defence was right thing to do.
@@mikemental8285 Jesus didn't reveal His reason for telling them to bring swords until later on. At no point did Jesus ever say, "Defend yourselves with the sword." You only infer that is what He meant. Jesus later used Peter’s drawing of the sword incident as an illustration to teach, “He who lives by the sword dies by the sword.” Have you ever considered that the reason Jesus told them to bring swords was to teach them this very principle? Jesus knows the future. Had Peter not had a sword to draw, then Jesus would have not had the illustration to teach us this principle. Furthermore, the Bible explicitly says, “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds” (1 Cor. 10:4). This was Jesus' point of telling them to bring swords. Jesus wanted to show His disciples that Christians are not to fight the way that the world fights. If the prop wasn't there then Jesus wouldn't have had the illustration to teach this. God said, “Vengeance is mine, says the Lord, I will repay.” Obviously, God wants us to turn violence perpetrated against us over to Him. Consider the Apostles’ response to violence perpetrated against them. Acts 5:40-41 says, " His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name." In Acts 14:19-20, they tried to kill Paul. They stoned him and he responded nonviolently. And also, read Acts 16:16-24. Christians are not to fight like the world fights. Jesus commanded Peter to sheath his sword. The Bible tells us to not fight with weapons of the world.
Jesus was not advocating being a wimp, a masochist, or doormat. He supported self defense, since at least a few of His disciples carried swords. Remember, there were no phones for a 911 call on those bandit-infested roads in ancient Israel. This requires wisdom and judgement. It's also an individual decision, not a government.
Acts 5:40-41 says, " His speech persuaded them. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name." And also, read Acts 16:16-24.
As for me i go with these verses: Saul has killed a thousand enemies; David has killed ten thousand! Joshua captured and massacred all the royal towns with their kings. And if it werent for the idf forces israel wouldnt exist today.
Everyone misses an important point. If someone hit you on the right cheek they likely backhanded you, treating you like a slave or someone lesser than themselves. Turning to give them the left cheek makes them face you as their equal.
The way i see it ....if you preach a different gospel to people who have never heard it,and you inadvertently offend some ones long held religous beliefs and you get smacked...walk away.
If you wanna talk literal and physical, I was always taught that if you are to get struck on the cheek, turn that person’s other cheek inside out. Ensure that that person could never fight ever again. 👍😉
Well, its all about jewish culture, Jesus is not saying that you should get beat up. You see, Slapping someone in jewish culture was done simply to embarass the person. Important detail is that by culture you were supposed to slap someone only with one and only with its outside. So turning the other cheek to the person bulling you set you in position where if that person will hit you again, he will punch you with the inner part of hand which is equal to starting a fight. So turning the other chick is like "When someone humiliate you, dont humiliate that person, but confront her openly"
The things is we are all sinners, and if we want God's forgiveness, we need to forgive others; hence, Matthew 6:9-14 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. 14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Cheers, Marantha
@RichMizenko 1 Corinthians 10:23-33 English Standard Version Do All to the Glory of God 23 “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. 24 Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. 25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 26 For “the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof.” 27 If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 28 But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience- 29 I do not mean your conscience, but his. For why should my liberty be determined by someone else's conscience? 30 If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks? 31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, 33 just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.
David vs Goliath. Shepherd vs a menacing, armed warrior. David trained himself to defend his flock. David didn’t turn the other cheek when threatened. Fives stones, a leather sling, and David’s faith in God defeated Goliath. BTW, David took Goliath’s sword and cut the giant’s head off. In today’s world, David would be sued by Goliath’s family for wrongful death.
If a man takes a hit and offers to take another. It is almost as defiant as a man can get. It is so off the chain and intimidating to say I can handle another one.
It means what it saids! No need to spiritualize the verse and take it out of context. The whole chapter he’s explaining what the law was and what we should do now as followers. He said this after he said eye for an eye tooth for a tooth. So it means exactly what it saids it’s literal not figurative. It’s all for the sake of the gospel. It’s not eye for an eye anymore. It’s keep your peace and let YAH fight your battles. When you turn the other cheek that’s actually showing strength to the person who hit you. This will actually show a person how strong you are. And he or she will think twice about the next slap in the face. Not saying just stand there and let someone keep hitting you. If you have time to turn the other cheek you’re actually showing the person how strong you are and I believe they either walk away or feel bad that they hit you. This will allow you to be a witness of the gospel to them and you actually can win a soul this way. Restraint is strength.! YAH will avenge!
If God really loved us, He would either protect us or let us protect ourselves and our loved ones. To let us just let ourselves be victims of crime and violence doesn't sound like a caring God to me.
Well if you THINK about it, if youre looking directly AT someone and they slap you; to TURN the other cheek, is to NOT look directly at them, and to walk away, disengaging from the conflict. avoid the quarrel BEFORE it breaks out, then you can avoid any slap, eh! 2 Tim 3 has a list of nasty type people, ends with AVOID SUCH PEOPLE. so turning AWAY from such people would usually avoid a slap.
It also helps to understand the context of that passage. In those days, when one was wronged financially or materially, the court would order a financial judgement and then allow the plaintiff to literally slap the defendant on the face. A form of punitive damages, so to speak. Jesus is saying that we should be so willing to make things right, that we should be willing give the other cheek as well.
Of course,He didn't mean to don't defend ourselves! He didn't mean that we must play the box's bag! Remember that Peter had knife in his zone which used against Malhos to cut his ear!!! He didn't say: Peter throw it out,away.. BUT He said: *Put it back in it's case!!! I don't mean that we must use knives or guns against other people!! We have the right to defend our selves when our life is in danger. Not for attack but for defend! But then again if somebody hits me on face, I'll give him a couple of hits just for education😁🤣😂 Thanks, you made me laugh😅
Sadly, we are living in a truly narcissistic society today. Difficult to get through some days. I do believe we are in the last days and the fulfillment of "lovers of selves" has been fulfilled.
I think so too. Because wickedness is also abounding and causing my love to sometimes grow cold towards the lost. It is definitely getting harder! Even heresy and apostasy are obviously rampant.

Even when Jesus let Himself be mistreated, He stood up for Himself and pointed out the wrong:
"Jesus answered him, 'If I have spoken wrongly, testify of the wrong; but if rightly, why do you strike Me?'" (Jn 18:23)
Stand up for yourself, but be a person characterized by Christlike mercy and forgiveness.

Hi,
Thank you so much for commenting. I would like you to consider three things as you continue to pursue truth:
#1: this verse. ⬇️
📕 Galatians 1:8
"But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!"
#2:
Jesus' favorite term for Himself was "the Son of Man."
The religious leaders of His day went livid at this label because they knew where He had gotten it from:
📕 Daniel 7:13-15
"I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, and He came up to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him.
And to Him was given dominion, glory and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations and men of every language might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which will not pass away; and His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed.
As for me, Daniel, my spirit was distressed within me, and the visions in my mind kept alarming me."
#3:
Consider how Jesus used I AM statements to validate who He was, referencing Exodus 3:14 ("I am"). One example is here:
📕 John 8:58
"Jesus said to them, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.'"
If you sit with Genesis 3, Isaiah 53, and other texts detailing God's plan of redemption,
it will be difficult to sleep due to the awesome glory and majesty of the God who saves sinners. Shalom to you. ❤️ Praying for you.
@mdsoyabaktar
Hi,
I like that you brought up the example in Ezekiel.

One has a right and need to defend himself and others against sustained aggression. Thanks, Pastor Nelson. Excellent teaching 👏
What was being said was, ‘I dare you to turn this into a real battle as peers’
Turning the *other* cheek is offering them a chance for the right hand to be used but if they do use the right hand, you are making them show the world you are not below them & you refuse to be made a subject to them.
This is, ‘if you think you can treat me like I’m worthless, think again because we are going to be brawling if you do it again because we are peers and I can strike back’
If the Right hand was used, it would mean the person being harmed has an equal right to strike back and doesn’t not subscribe to the idea they can be harmed as an inferior.
You are right. I'm always amazed by Jesus' sayings. it's so good, smart and true
God bless you Pastor
Good teaching! Thank you
To start things off in most translations Jesus doesn't say turn the cheek.

Yes people it is possible to love someone but still prevent them from hurting you or any of your loved ones. Self-defense is not hate.
It works with hidden peace of God beyond our understanding
it quite simple means: don't seek revenge.
Amen, agreed!
There are some in life with chronic negative personality flaws and you don't have to stay in the company of those like that.
Be slow to anger. Don't just strike out, but don't let them kill you either. He says to turn the other cheek not take a beating.
Our relationship with believers, non believers, and deceivers are different.
Thanks.
Thank you I think it's just one must use good judgement
Amen GQ 🙂🙏 thank you
I had an experience. God stepped in and sorted it.
This video should be 3 seconds long, To never fight back under any circumstances
Amen
Since most people are right handed, a blow to the right cheek would be backhanded.. This is how one would hit a "servant`. Turning the other cheek would say HIT ME AS YOUR EQUAL.
those of us in Christ know "turn the other cheek" is TOTALLY Jesus. It's him.
This Jesus has personality problems.
Yeah, my understanding was that it was a public insult, and not an assault.
I try to remember proverbs 12:16 when I think of turning the other cheek.
A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted.
Proverbs 12:16 NLT
The culture says I'm offended, but the Christian is to be thick skinned (loving our enemy when hated).
It literally says, "If someone strikes you on the cheek..." This is not merely just about an insult, it is primarily about an assault but can be extrapolated to be referring to an insult.
@@statesman6379 you must understand / study the culture in order to understand the text.
The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name."
Jesus said that whoever rejects you (His people) rejects Him (Luke 10:16).
@@statesman6379 i guess you have it all figured out then.
He wasn't referring to self defense he was referring to vengeance.
A elementary level of understanding thanks
The context of that verse is love. IF it is more loving to let someone hit you then let them. But if it is more loving to defend someone then do that. Ultimately if we can get someone to accept Jesus by turning the other cheek then that should be our goal.
Such simple words I hadn't considered before.
No, the Bible said that we are to be as harmless as doves. You can interfere but be HARMLESS
When someone slaps you upside the head for no particular good reason, I’m not gonna give him another shot!!!!:/
I would most likely retaliate and convey the message of DON’T YOU DARE DO THAT TO ME AGAIN!!!!!
Welcome to my class
This verse does not mean purposely walk into danger
It does not mean continue to let things happen to you
It does not mean to let others harm others
It does not mean to justify those who do harm to you or others
It does not mean to actually stand there and let them hurt you.
Very same Jesus that exhorted us to "turn the other cheek" the very same Jesus that told us to "turn your cloak for a blade"
At face value it seems like we have an consistency here, a contradiction... but when you look closely, you will see and understand the context that he's talking about, and it's clear...
How is allowing more violence and insults from an individual teaching that individual that it's wrong to beat or insult people?
Honestly I wouldn't know what to do maybe sacrifice myself if I have to. Everyone has their own opinion on this verse yet, God will do the vengeance.
@@HolySpiritIsSatanOfSinDethHell - I think it's great to aspire to, but near impossible to implement. Look at what's going on in the world. Are we, as Christians, to turn the other cheek when it comes to foreign policy? Should we tell Israel and Ukraine we won't send them any money or weapons because we need to turn the other cheek? If we didn't push back, Christians would have died out 1950 years ago.
@@TodaysDante
Well actually it's God who keeps us Christians and saves the elect. I don't really see the saints fighting in the new testament and I'm not sure if we should defend ourselves but I know God will avenge us. The Holy Spirit is always with us and praying for us and we should also pray about if we can defend ourselves and try to live Holy to figure this out. Always confess Jesus wherever you go! Remember God will never leave us nor forsake us!
"Turn the other cheek" is about insults.
Basically "don't answee to an insult, with insulting".
We don't need to be spiritual or physical door mats
It literally says, "if someone strikes you on the cheek..." That is not merely an insult. Dr. Martin Luther King demonstrated this. He was preaching this very passage and it was also about loving your enemy. Someone from the church pew walked up to him while he was preaching and punched him in the face. Dr. King did not retaliate. His entourage subdued the guy. Dr. King told them to let him go and never pressed charges. He continued his sermon.
@@statesman6379
I think we all agree that M.L.King did the right thing.
The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name."
In Acts 14:19-20, they tried to kill Paul. They stoned him and he responded nonviolently.
And also, read Acts 16:16-24.
Christians are not to fight like the world fights. Jesus commanded Peter to sheath his sword. The Bible tells us to not fight with weapons of the world.
@@mikemental8285 the cia killed mlk
@@mikemental8285 Yeah, we all saw where MLK ended up being peaceful.
The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name."
And also, read Acts 16:16-24.
The disciples carried swords lest you forget.
As for me i go with these verses: Saul has killed a thousand enemies; David has killed ten thousand!
Joshua captured and massacred all the royal towns with their kings.
And if it werent for the idf forces israel wouldnt exist today.
Fair enough
Everyone misses an important point. If someone hit you on the right cheek they likely backhanded you, treating you like a slave or someone lesser than themselves. Turning to give them the left cheek makes them face you as their equal.
Great analysis. Unfortunately, the founders of the Anabaptist movement did not understand the context of this passage.
The way i see it ....if you preach a different gospel to people who have never heard it,and you inadvertently offend some ones long held religous beliefs and you get smacked...walk away.
Forgiving and forgetting is truly redeeming, but it should not be cynically used to thwart Justice, be it earthly or Divine
The things is we are all sinners, and if we want God's forgiveness, we need to forgive others; hence,
Matthew 6:9-14
9 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Cheers, Marantha
@RichMizenko 1 Corinthians 10:23-33
English Standard Version
Do All to the Glory of God
23 “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful.
Shepherd vs a menacing,armed warrior.
Jesus didn't mean to take a beating. We have the right to defend ourselves.
He meant to have love for your enemy, not hate, and to pity his pain which he lashes out from.
If a man takes a hit and offers to take another. It is almost as defiant as a man can get. It is so off the chain and intimidating to say I can handle another one.
How are you going to defend yourselves ... how do you protect your wife and children ???
This Jesus has serious personality problems.
Amen 🙏
Well if you THINK about it, if youre looking directly AT someone and they slap you; to TURN the other cheek, is to NOT look directly at them, and to walk away, disengaging from the conflict. avoid the quarrel BEFORE it breaks out, then you can avoid any slap, eh! 2 Tim 3 has a list of nasty type people, ends with AVOID SUCH PEOPLE. so turning AWAY from such people would usually avoid a slap.
Can you please explain this bible verse "Matthew 24:34 Truly I say to you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled."
But then again if somebody hits me on face, I'll give him a couple of hits just for education😁🤣😂
Thanks, you made me laugh😅
