I owned a new Nammatj 3GT pre-2002. It definitely had 9mm poles from new. First time out on the headland above Staithes, near Whitby, the pole near the entrance snapped and I abandoned camp. Forever, the poles would bend inwards under the lightest breeze and at the time I thought the non-vestibule end should face the wind. Rarely I would wake to find that my pillow, or bag wasn't wet. Further, I didn't expect to separate the inner from the fly each morning because it was soaking wet and if there was no breeze, I'd lose an hour waiting for it to dry a little. Plus it was as noisy as hell, noisiest tent I've ever been in. God knows, I truly hated that tent and still do.

I wish my region got cold enough to justify a 4 season berg. I own a Helags 2 and ended up having to buy the mesh inner to sleep comfortably. Absolutely love my anaris though. It’s not the lightest backpacking tent but I feel like I’m in staying in something luxurious every time I take it out.

Highly recommend the groundsheet, not just for protecting and prolonging the life of the inner, or comfort but also assists with condensation when on vegetation. The side guylines can be cut/split into two (although recommend getting additional guys) to give you additional anchor points and would recommend additonal guys. I believe with the ever obsession for weight in today's market the weight of additional pegs/guys is undesirable, but for those using them for their intended purpose, then additional side anchor points are vital. As good as hillebergs are, once you lost that side anchor they can fail very quickly. Additional pegs in a storm give you chance to get out and sort whilst still having a side anchor. Safe travels.

Very interesting comparison. Where did you find this old Namatji? Was it at an auction or is it one of your tents? Kind regards from Switzerland.

On the old one you also can choose just to have mosquitonet down to be able to be inside and look out to all mosquitos. I have the old version, 3GT since 20+ years.

If memory serves me correctly (not likely), I thought the Nammatj had 10mm poles back then, as I had an Akto and wondered how much sturdier that would be if I double-poled it with two Nammatj 10mm poles as they are the same length as the Akto's pole. I'm pretty sure the Nammatj had 3mm guylines as the Akto was one of their lightweight tents which had 2mm guylines. This was before Hilleberg brought in the Yellow, Red and Black labelling system.
Maybe whoever the previous owner was modded it with lighter poles & guys, but that seems rather unlikely and rather expensive!

Yes I thought it was unusual but lines poles definitely thinner. Interesting to see what others say.
