Dale Jr is has got to be the most genuinely cool celebrity of his era. I get the impression that he’s exactly the same guy in front of the camera as the guy that you see pushing his kid on a swing at the playground or grabbing a brew at a sports bar. Just a super good guy

It took a long time to understand why I was feeling that way; why I was being so violent, reclusive and suicidal.
Aside from the instant personality changes, there were long lasting damages such as poor impulse control - Long story long, I ended up losing everything, as a lot of us folks do with serious brain injuries, we lose sight of who we used to be and have a difficult time understanding who we are now and who we are becoming.

None of the other drivers in the movie got that reaction. He’s a rock star in North Carolina, very beloved. People who don’t even watch NASCAR know him and feel protective of him because of how huge his old man was and still is in NC.

As a fan of his it gave me so much insight to things I really knew nothing about or never took the time to seek out. Now, knowing so much of the detail and what he went through, I am glad he walked away from driving. On the other hand, he worries me for his future and what may lay ahead in his later years. With God's grace I hope Jr never has to know and continues to do what makes him happy.
What a great guy who has been through so much openly in the public eye because of who he is, I think what you see right here is really seeing him as the absolute person he is. Wow, great interview and the information taken away from this interview has been very informative and most importantly, helpful to me. I grew up at a time where if you got hurt you were expected to shake it off and go back to whatever you were doing. I've realized that this sort of mentality, if used too much, can really prevent us from helping ourselves when we really need it. I think Dale Jr is a good example of that as well as I know I am as well. I think there is some mental toughness when it comes to pushing yourself but I think what keeps us from seeking help is fear. Not so much as the fear of the unknown when you go to a Dr. but you also have the other fears of not being able to be and do the things you are accustomed to doing because you know you will possibly need to change due to the injury or medical condition. So yeah, thank you so much as you can tell this interview has enlightened me a great deal.

Strength & pride in ones self is a hell of thing. So much of what Dale Jr. said really resonated with me.
Thank you so much for having this podcast.
This really woke me up to the facts of some things I've personally been dealing with.
My family & I live in Houston. I slipped on the ice & busted the back of my head while playing with my kids at the park across the street from my house last January after a winter storm. It almost knocked me unconscious. I've been blind sided off my feet during a football game & or taken plenty of punches to the head when I was a teenager/young man and had never been close to being knocked out. Always prided myself on having a "think skull" or a "strong chin" as my Dad called it. However the evening I fell on the ice was a totally different experience.
My wife was out of town & it was just me and the kids the night I fell on the ice. I tried to pop back up but knew something was wrong & only went to one knee. Even as foggy as I was at the time, I still knew I was still on the ice & the last thing I needed was to fall & hit my head again. So I gathered myself for a minute & then slowly gathered myself & got back up. Once off the ice I walked back across the street to my house & stood at the tailgate at the back of my truck. I didnt want to scare my wife so I didnt call her so I went to call my brother to come by for a little bit. When I started to dial his number I mentally started playing the conversation I was about to have with my brother & stopped before I called him because I realized that I couldn't remember why my wife was out of town (she went to spend the night with her parents who live closer to the town she had business meetings in the next day). I knew I couldn't call him because it would have scared him just bad as my wife. So I started running through why she might be gone. It took me a full 5 minutes to realize where she was & why she was gone.
Ive had a hard time remembering things & I've been hiding just how serious this actually was.
Thank you for sharing this. I'm biting the bullet & scheduling an appointment tomorrow.
    CHRIS

Big Dale Jr fan here. I read his book. And have heard other interviews with him about this subject. It's really cool to hear him cuss and really be comfortable with Joe. With this concussion stuff in not just NASCAR but all motor sports, I thought with his book and all the subsequent interviews and discussions about his deal we would have seen other drivers speak up. I haven't really seen a driver other than Dale say anything about being hurt. It shows how hard it is like with any sport, that once you reach a certain level you're probably scared shitless that you could lose everything you worked for because of it.

I had an ear infection last year that led to disturbances in my balance. I was at work one day and the world started spinning in circles so badly I couldn't even stand up. It lasted for probably an hour and I remember feeling like I was going to have a panic attack at the same time. It was absolutely awful. I still have moments where it feels like there's motion when I'm not moving, but haven't had a full on vertigo attack since. My coworkers said my eyes were darting back and forth repeatedly, and it makes sense because it looked like everything was spinning counter clockwise and I was trying to focus on something that wouldn't stop moving.

His dad was my favorite was going to the Texas race in April for the first to watch dale sr race was devastated when was killed.but Dale Jr. Has been my favorite I haven’t watched NASCAR since he retired and I wanted so much to see him win a Championship but seeing him win most popular race car Driver for 15 straight years made him Championship winner for 15 years. Then listening and watching this interview can understand why he was a Champion for 15 years straight.I think he should be given an Honary Championship cause he was a Champion for NASCAR all those years
