    Hey Fritz! Thanks for all your videos thus far! I’m also a fellow estoril blue m235i driver! I’m on my 2nd oil change with the same liquimoly molygen and I’ve been a fan of it since. The tungsten and the UV light reactive-ness did sell me on it. FCPEuro has been huge so far to me to buy oil from them. Just send them back the old one, and get a refund back for the used oil; so really the cost of molygen has been me the shipping back to their HQ.
    Anyway thanks for the great content! I’ve got a similar build to you and it’s also my daily. I just want to be able to find some M2c seats, like the m4 gts ones you have!

    Hi, I am regular user of Liqui Moly Molygen and been using since 2018.... You won't feel the difference instantly since the castrol edge itself a very good oil but i think its safe to say that on your 3rd oil change with liqui moly you'll see a difference, when I switched from 5W-30 to 0W-20 i saw a huge bump in performance, fuel economy, engine got relaxed, noiseless, and car got quicker. I would also recommend you to use liqui moly ceratec oil additive for more quickness, slickness, snappiness and instant throttle response, it reduces the friction.

    • @mohammedhaiyan
      @mohammedhaiyan Год назад +14

      Molygen doesn’t require ceratec because it’s already full of additives.

  • @KirbyLouis
    @KirbyLouis 3 года назад +3

    so good youre putting in all this work for our forgotten/overlooked bmw model, youre the only one doin it consistently/well
    i think at face value we all want to see visible/striking results in upgrading/switching oil but in this instance, between these two oils i think everything will be the same when looked at face value.
    but where i think this "model" of moly oil gets the label of "better", is the special "Powerful MFC (Molecular Friction Control) technology prevents formation of deposits" sauce it has, something you wont feel/see until you check that magnet and that black light feature.
    i dont think you, with a tune would see noticeable smoothness/mpg differences cuz its still 5w40, for increased economy its usually 0w 30, to maaaybe see a diff, but that turns to water to fast and ultimately useless especially if youre not stock and or drive hard for even half of the oils life.
    i think it simply comes down to if you want to pay the little extra money(maybe) for some extra wear protection, an internal spout and the black light thing over "regular" brands
    on fcp euro theres 3 moly "service kits" (7Liters and the mann filter), the green molygen kit is the cheapest of the 3 at 65$ and obnoxiously cheaper than the bmw branded oil kit at damn near 100$. castrol edge at oreillys is 71 for 2 jugs minus the filter.
    i think im gonna go with this cool kid moly, for my next change, ill come out cheaper than the dealer at; 100$(this time) for a 7 quart+filter kit, magnetic drain plug and 3 extra filters and save 90mile drive to/from livermore for me to wait 3 hours in the dealership lobby haha

      When the oil is being drained from the engine, it still leaves a bit of old oil residue in the engine. I've also noticed upon changing the oil with molygen 5w30 and checking it on dipstick after start-up, it was light-brown'ish.

    I’ve been using Castrol edge 5w-40 on my 535i for 3 years and love it. I buy it at Walmart for a great price. I change oil and oil filter every 5k or once a year whatever comes first.
    If you want real oil analysis I would go to Project Farm channel on RUclips where he tests these oils. In project farm analysis liquid molly did not rank very well. It ranked worse than Walmart brand oil.
    I like to knowing the additive package in the oil that I’m using as well as real world oil analysis results. I use Pennzoil ultra platinum in my other vehicles.
    At the end of the day I truly believe that it’s about the frequency of the oil changes and less about the brand of the oil. Just be consistent with oil changes. Especially on a BMW.

On a side note, I use Pennzoil euro L 5w30 before winter hits and switches to Leichtlauf High Tech 5w40 near the summer times. I've noticed that on 90+ degree weather the 5w40 oil ran better than the 5w30 but otherwise it's about the same during cold season. The euro L 5w30 costs about $25 a 5qt at the local walmart while Leichtlauf 5w40 at $43 a 5L.

      I own a 2011 e90 335i and my temps are just below 250, if I drive calmly for around 15-20 min (which is rare😂) It goes down to around 200. Just be careful it doesn't go above 250°, also check that you put good quality coolant, and check the coolant pipes here and there to make sure there aren't any leaks etc.

      @@gomidasodabashian4904 Thanks for the tips! Yea, I noticed if I drive relatively calm on the highway, it stays right under 250. I drove it in much cooler weather (40-60 degrees F) and it either took longer to get up to temp or never really reached 250. But now that I have it back home in LA, where temps are pretty high.. it seems to run at 250. I just got an oil changed (bmw specialist) and they gave it a good bill of health. I think next time I need some service, I’ll think about switching it to a mossleman thermostat. My only concern is I don’t want it running too cool to where I’m not getting the benefits of the oil being used, since I’m not tracking the car or anything like that. Luckily we should start to see some cooler weather here, so it shouldn’t be that bad. Maybe by next summer I’ll make the upgrade. Thanks again!

      N55 likes to run hot for better fuel efficiency. When u drive hard it will actually run cooler. Mine runs just below 250

      @@mohammedalroz2955 Yea, I’ve noticed that after a year of ownership. Especially if it gets up to temp, then I turn it off for a few minutes, once I get back to it and get on it a little bit it runs much cooler. After a while I just stopped paying attention to it and let it do its thing. Been great.

    Hi Fritz, thanks for your great m235i content as always! After watching your video I plan to give this Liqui Moly a try but I’m debating on whether to use 5w-30 or 5w-40 for my next oil change. Ive been on the OEM BMW 5w-30 for my past oil changes, only yesterday that I got an “engine at minimum level” warning signal from the car and I’ve been trying to figure out if it is the lower top end viscosity that’s causing my engine to burn the oil quicker (I’m pretty sure the decrease in level is not due to a leak). My concern with 5w-40 is that I live in Vancouver and we have much cooler summer than California. Hoping you could give me some advice, thanks.

      Hello there. It looks like your question did not get answered so let me add my 2 cents. The most protective oil which is called Liqui Moly Synthoil 0w40 has an incredibly great film strength and makes your engine quieter. It can probably make any engine last to 500k miles. But it is a little thicker so I recommend for summer weather. For winter I am using 0w20 AA LiquiMoly and it seems to be doing well because it is lighter and it's still not that hot where I am at. If you want to see some of the Liqui Moly oils being tested for the scar size when spun for 10 minutes you can search RUclips for keywords: Piotr Liqui Moly + the weight oil.

      I have an M54 not the same engine but I had it since 35k miles and its at 144k, 5w 30 was super smooth and a good oil weight up until 100k miles or so, once I started touching 100k that's when you get the spark plugs coils, and whatever replaced, the car ran good but when I switched to 0w-40 and the car was warm it way smoother running on 40 than 30, now the engine will only run on 40. So I say depending on how hard the engine worked in its life, how many miles, and oil change cycles switch to 40. I also noticed the car burns way less oil now, its been full now for like 3,000+ miles so far.

      5w-40 is a great oil. If you are concerned at all with low temps just run 0w-40

      thanks so much for all your replies! so i’ve switched to 5w-40 and couldn’t be happier. The engine is smoother, happier, unnoticeable oil burn. I feel BMW should just recommend the 5w-40 for the n55. Cheers.

    It would have been easier to compare for example, the oil pressure at different temperatures, the time it takes for the oil pump to build up pressure at the cold start, that would have been very explicit to see if it is worth it, or which one is the best.
    I also wonder, in such a high power small engine, why you wouldn`t use say 5w50 molygen or 0w50 if your engine does not use oil... But hey, that's me. I`m the guy that doesn`t use what "the manufacturer reccomends" i use what i know and tested to be best. :)

      What would that actually prove I would think as long as the oil would coat all the parts and stay on them well that would be fine while waiting for the oil to flow.

    my wifes mazda recommends moly in the oil, and the liqui moly is cheaper than the mazda brand, so i am now using liqui moly.....the recommend for moly is the sludge fighting and lubrication properties, and if they recommend, ill use, just not the over inflated mazda brand

    Liquimoly is certainly an ok oil but it's not anything special or "best of best". Has no approvals keep in mind. I've run Molygen extensively including tracking. It has a tungsten-based friction modifier. I'd say Leichtlauf High Tech 5W40 over Molygen as it has the BMW LL01 approval guaranteeing performance.

    If you think moly is one of the best oils out there your living in lala land , in all the tests I’ve seen moly doesn’t even come close to the best 5 best oils out there, AMS oil comes first in 90% of all motor oil tests, then red line followed by castrol and penzoil, even Amazon and shell oils finish higher the moly , moly is very average oil with one of the best marketing,that’s why so many people go for it. Nothing special about it. Go and watch the tests yourself
