This was my very first marathon as I only started running last year at 57 and kinda got hooked. I did the training and thought I was prepared. Wheels started coming off the train about 25K but the atmosphere kept me going until the end. I didn’t really know what to expect, but it was sensory overload the entire time and was so cool it kept my mind off the running a bit. Took longer than I had hoped, was much harder than I anticipated, I’m so sore I can barely walk, but it was AWESOME! Thanks Kofuzi your videos have been helpful and inspirational while training.
Welcome to the club and congrats! For future reference, from my experience with this particular marathon, I think that hitting a wall at around 25k comes from going out too quick. The lower Michigan part followed by the GPS killing valleys of the loop make pacing at the start really hard. At this point, I expect to run a fair bit slower than the crowd for those first 2-3 miles, letting people pass me up, then use the mile markers to lock in my pace, and then slowly pass people the rest of the race (this is the exact opposite of the first few times I ran it, where I would run _faster_ than the crowd, and then get passed the rest of the race).
@@dalegaliniak607 Maybe I was off on my pacing goal because I was a first timer but I was right on the pace I wanted up until that point. Right around there, the atmosphere of the crowd changed a bit and instead of being overwhelmed with everything, this was the first real time I started thinking “this is starting to hurt real bad” and I chose to walk. Once I got into the Pilson(?) neighborhood and China town, I started to get a bit of second wind but by then, my mind was telling me that I’m already off pace so it was “OK” to do the walk run routine, so I did. This just gives me plenty of room for improvement on my next one! Thanks for the encouragements.
From hosting runners from around the world and then making this a “Fun Run” for yourself, you probably had the most fun at a race in a long time. It’s great to have events like this to keep you motivated and ultimately HAVE FUN!
It was an amazing time running this race. I was to focused on running that I didn't have a way to relive this experience. Thank you for the video. I'm happy that I completed the Chicago Marathon this year. The crowed really was a magical part of this whole experience and I am grateful for everyone that was very supportive.
This is your best video by far, my dude. Loved to see you break 3 hours but was even more happy for you to see you run your hometown race with so much joy on your face - you were smiling in almost every clip! Reminds me of how amazing this race is, and makes me so excited for next year.
Ok, so watching this drinking a Diet Coke at McDonald’s and I have to say this is one of your most joyful videos ever. The moments you took during the run to stop and video selfies with groups of people made me so happy. Brilliant editing!!
What a freaking day!!! I suffered cramps at mile 23 so my pace got affected but overall amazing race. I want to thank the girl that at the final uphill gave me my last push. My legs were hurting i started to walk and she said "oh no girl, we got this don't stop now!" I don't know who you are, i don't know if you'll read this but thank you so much!!!
26.2 miles of smiles and fist bumps. maybe this is how all marathons should be run. congrats to your running buddy and you for being an excellent pacer & great friend!
Awesome video. Not only were you able to help and support your friend, you showcased your hometown race like no one else could. This has got to be the best Chicago Marathon video out. You really captured the essence of the race and it was uplifting seeing your joy throughout.
Currently injured and this makes me really miss running! The support from complete strangers during a marathon is something special. Great video, thanks for posting!!
How good is that energy !! Electrifying production, well done KOFUZI, really felt that one through my bones. I can't wait to run my very own marathon. Appreciate it!
Chicago is so amazing! Thank you for putting on the best running content and inspiring so many people to get out and run! This was my first Chicago Marathon and certainly will not be my last.
Congrats to your running buddy for reaching his goal. What a wonderful, happy and fun memento you have given him with this video. Found myself smiling the whole way through, glad you had so much fun out there. Chicago came out in force.
I LOVED watching this. First of all, congratulations on a great race. Seeing the utter joy on your face has really got me enthused again. After a couple of years of finding running / motivation / positivity quite hard to come by I was beginning to question why I would put myself through the training and hard work again. BUT after watching your video I was reminded of the buzz running can give you. I was reminded of the atmosphere of race day. I was reminded of the community running can create. All of my runs - since watching this video - have been so much more positive. I keep remembering the smile on your face and that gives me an instant lift!!!! Brilliant video!
Such a great video and such an amazing experience running Chicago to a 47 minute PR. You have a wonderful city and everyone was so great and encouraging on the course.
Chicago will always hold a special place in my heart as my first marathon. Your video really captured the magic and course support you get with the race. Great job !!
Just watched your Chicago & NYC Marathon videos. This has convinced me to never set a time goal. You seem so full of joy. I feel like after all the months of training, I want my experience to be a celebration. An arbitrary time goal will never sour my race day experience. I’m running Pittsburgh In May and Marine Corp in October. I’m going to train hard and race day will be a celebration of all the effort.
Thank you for bringing us to the race. This was my first ever marathon which I ran in 2012 giving me not only my first ever marathon experience but a BQ as well. Had such an amazing experience; the spectators were the best part.
This was my first Chicago Marathon and I watched your tips video before the weekend. Came back to your channel to see how you did - looks like you had an amazing day! This video captured the experience perfectly - so much fun and so much support along the way!
Unbelievable Chicago crowd support. Spectacular photography. It looked like you had a wonderful, fun, enjoyable, race. Nothing else to be said but bravo and congratulations
Always love the way you package and present your race videos. It always gives me chill and make me want to wear my shoes and go for a run. Thanks, Kofuzi!
Thank you for capturing the moments, the city and the run. I'm so overwhelmed and so grateful that I've run Chicago 2022. My very first in-person marathon with finishing time of 3:18:31. I would watch this again and again to remember the streets that I ran two days ago. :D
I must have watched this video about five times now, it's so inspirational! The fun, enjoyment and passion on everyone's face at 5:30 is such a great reason to do marathons. I'm doing the NYC Marathon in 2 weeks, hope to see you for your shakeout run there! Love these videos!!
Very inspiring capture of a city marathon 😍. Going for a fun run marathon allows for all those smiles both outside and inside. Well done, Mr. Ko! 💪🏼 :)
This year was my first marathon. Thanks for the videos. It was great watching you in previous races and this was a great recap to help remember the buzzz and blur of my first marathon.
Love how you made this a "fun run", focusing on the experience rather than your time. What fantastic joy-filled footage! I bet you made 1,000's happy that day.
I ran Chicago yesterday and that crowd is what pulled me through….absolutely amazing!! A top notch race in now my new favorite city. Thanks so much for this recap video to allow me to re-live those feelings that I had yesterday. Keep up the great work, good man!
I was there too! I ran my first full marathon with my fiance and I had so much fun. Perfect weather, great people to run with, and incredible spectators!! I cannot agree more. I also uploaded a video on my experience of the race, but I still come here and watch yours.
It was so fun watching your Chicago Marathon experience in 4K quality. I got to see other runners and spectators and I was glad you were having such a great time without the pressure of a PR.
This marathon video really felt like a celebration of Kofuzi’s running journey so far. Definitely inspired to me to run a major like this one day. No lofty goals and really just enjoy the run and literally everything that it offers.
Everyone around me is dreaming about the big marathons in NYC, Boston, London, Berlin... but with every year and associated video coverage of Chicago Marathon, this has become my #1 dream marathon. Such a great event! Hoping to make it happen one day, been sidelined with runner's knee for months...
miles 8 and 9 and the aid stations over there with the DJ are the best for spectating!! I had so much fun cheering all the runners this year and I'm glad you had such a good time
Thanks for posting this video. Chicago was my first marathon and I was so focused on finishing and getting sub 4, I didn’t really get to soak in everything. I ended up getting sub 3:55 and watching this made all the subconscious memories come flooding back. 🎉🎉
Loved this video! You finished ahead of me but so great to relive this race, what a day! amazing energy, thank you for making these!😻 Affirms how much I love marathoning!!!!!
