- A few months ago, I came two and a half minutes short of my goal to run a marathon under three hours. Since then, I've trained well, rested well through the taper, and had beautiful weather to race a hilly course. For the 2022 LA Marathon, I really went for it.
Thanks to ASICS for providing me a bib to race on and to Floris Gierman and his coach, Coach Jimmy Dean, for all their support with pacing.
Thanks for watching! Leave a comment to let me know you stopped by!

"I'm dying... I'm dying... Thanks for coming out, guys." That's Kofuzi. 100% human, 110% awesome!
This made me emotional. Incredible run, Ko.
You really gave it your everything Mike, it was incredible to see you dig so deep at the end, especially up that steep hill near the finish 🙌
Congrats on your race! Nice of you to keep Mike company at the end!
Floris, you are an amazing person to slow down and help out Michael. 🙏🙌
So cool to see Floris and Kofuzi run together!
Loved seeing your brotherly support! Congrats on your race!!
You dug deep there buddy, what an effort on what looked like some cheeky hills!! Another marathon, another PR... keep it rolling!!
Great work. Sub-3:00 incoming at your home course of Chicago!
Congrats on the PR! Only 50 seconds away now...and you did that on a challenging course with some tough winds. Good to run with you for a bit out there yesterday. 👍🏽
... a challenging course with some tough winds AND carrying a camera!!! 😅
Fastest man with a selfie stick. Man is pumping one arm,no question a sub 3 is there without the selfie stick
Mike…what a race you made. You fight Samurai…you fight. This is what the marathon is a personal battle…CONGRATULATIONS
I felt your pain over the last miles. You did a great job pushing through. Thanks for taking us on the journey.
Congrats Mike! "Come on Mike!", "were almost there". Words of encouragement from ur 2 running buddies! Yahooo!
You are the King of Grit!! Well deserved PR! Loved the support from Coach Jimmy and Floris. 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼🔥💥⚡️
Seeing you grit through at the end brought me to tears. That's why we do this. Well done, my man.
I’m not gonna lie: this is me rn after watching that = 😭
Thank you for inspiring us and giving your all, always. Glad you had support out there! 🖤
That was awesome. Congratulations 👏
wow that made me tear up at the end. I know that pain all too well at the final stretch of the mara. Very inspirational stuff and perfectly captured!
You SOB .... The music, the friendship, the drama! Making me tear up over here!!!! ;). Seriously though ... good job brother!
racing always puts me through the ringer
4:52 was my favorite part. Love when people cheer others on like that. I know that pain on your face at the end very well. Way to dig deep and go after it. So awesome AND CONGRATS ON YOUR PR!!
Amazing how much more I like seeing LA when I'm not there!
DUDE!!!! You RULE! That was awesome, the grind, the pain, but you DIDN'T GIVE UP! PR's are epic, Congrats! The Kofuzi Run club support is also EPIC, hope you realize what a difference you make. Paying in forward! Great Job Kofuzi!
So proud of you, Kofuzi!!!! YOU, killed it!!!!!
Dude so stoked to have met you at the beginning and end of the race! Truly an awesome human being and runner!
I’m 65 and looked JUST LIKE THAT on my 1st ever 5k last Thanksgiving, LOL! Great job, Mike….I learned a lot from your channel.
That "battle" at the end of mind and body was EPIC! Congratulations on a BIG PR and way to threaten the 3hr mark! The hunt continues...
Herculean effort Mike, well done! 👏🏻
Big up to Floris and Jimmy too for pushing you during the toughest final few miles. 👍🏻👍🏻
Wow, that was epic!! What a great crowd, and so great to have friends at the end supporting you through to a PR!!👍👍👏👏
So awesome. Woohoo thanks for getting me pumped for LA 2023
I got chills when you approached finish line! Way to go Ko👊
That last 2 minutes had me in all the feels. Awesome race man!
Dude. You are amazing. Getting better everytime is insane, superhuman. You’ll get it next race.
Great PR! and them two gentleman are the MVPs on the final stretch! Getting near your target, Mike. You will smash it on the next race!

Love the part where to told the dude “I’m working!” 😆
Such an inspiring video. I enjoyed this footage. Makes me pumped up for Boston next month!!! Congratulations Ko!
Congrats Mike! Incredible race on a tough course, a PR, and also 4th in AG…Amazing!!
You were in the pain cave those last few clips. Way to go in and re-emerge with that PR. Incredible man. INCREDIBLE. Now go get a chili dog.
So much elevation, it was really sub 3 effort! Grat Mike!
Really, really, really hard not to get pumped up watching this. Longtime viewer, first time commenter. Great job and congrats!
Brave Marathon Mike on a hilly course pacing looked on point you gave it everything on the day New PB 👍Great to see the spirit of sportsmanship is still alive
So proud of you Mike! That’s heart!
Way to push through to a PR!! This video is a great example of how awesome and encouraging the running community is.
You really give it everything Ko! A phenomenal effort and so close to elusive sub-3. Loved every second of this video and was willing you across that line. 👏👏👏
Great job pacing and never giving up! Awesome! PR! It's all about pacing.
This gave me chills. Nice work man
Awesome job! Way to dig deep and leave it all on the course! Nothing touches that type of an effort when the pain and struggle get real after those 1st 20 miles. Keeping it so real and best RUclips channel by a long shot!
Something flew into my eye at the end there with the hug with Floris. It’s like a Marvel crossover of RUclips Runners. Congrats on the PR on a tough course. Look forward to the recap and the kofuzi run club run in Chicago later this year
Nothing like entering the darkest space mentally while running. Way to go!
Congrats on the PR. It takes guts to attempt a sub-3:00 on such a tough course. Great display of heart. Almost there.
I wasn't there but watching this...I was there all the way with you, cheering for you. Love the camaraderie throughout as well!
Way to PR, kofuzi. I needed a helper to keep me focused in some of the final miles of my one and only sub-3. Coach Jimmy Dean and Floris Gierman: great job.
It's always inspiring seeing someone truly give it their all. You did that and that's a win. Congratulation
i eeeeeee
No one can touch those camera shots
You have got such an eye, it’s incredible
Incredible run Mike! That course looks extremely tough. Chicago is very proud of you
Wow... That was incredible footage, Mike. What a freaking drama you put us through.....
you were brave. proper recovery and then use that attitude in good measure in your training. nice gesture from your friends. truly inspiring. well done
This video made my Monday morning! Awesome running!
You made cry! That was so emotional 🎊🎉🍾🤩
Just over 20min 5k shows how fast you need to pace to get around the 3 hour mark, that’s hard work! Nice one Mike. You put your all into that!
Congrats! PR in LA is no joke.
high 50 to 60 temperature, not a flat course. Plus all that smog and higher altitude.
This is a win-win.
I think I just found my inspiration to run LA in 2024. You rock!
Tough course, congrats on the PB. Sub 3, definitely on the cards this year if the moon and stars align. Let's gooo
So close. This made me so emotional. Feeling the struggle and pressing on is so inspiring.
Heck yes. You did amazing through the I’m Dying. Way to push it.
Keep grinding!! Your sub 3 is just around the corner! Wish you the best
Made me cry, thanks for sharing.
Amazing accomplishment! A PR in LA! Enjoy the moment!
Heart!! Jimmy and Floris are the kind of friends you want!!👍👍😎
Nice Run Mr Kofuzi 👏 I am honored to see you PR'd 🙏
Arrrrr... So close Kofuzi ! Great run and I know you won't be dissatisfied as it means you'll go for it again. Thanks for the video !!
Your commitment to holding the camera all the way through is amazing. It uses up energy and affects your running efficiency. Without it you could have easily gained several minutes, but you know that and you keep going. Awesome.
I’m calling it now…your gonna do it at Chicago 2022!! Nice run man!!! So motivating!!
After running my first marathon Saturday in Savannah I feel both your joy and your pain. 3:41:xx for me. I hoped for better but was going to be happy with anything under 3:45:00. The wall between miles 22-23 was real. You are an inspiration Mr. Ko!
great work on your first marathon!
CONGRATULATIONS 👏👏👏👏. Superb run and P.B . You LEGEND
Was checking RUclips frequently for your upload today. Congrats on the PR. You'll get that Sub 3 Hour Marathon sooner or later.
Fantastic run, amazing video.
You know you have sub-3 under your belt.
We all know it's coming. GoGo Kofuzi!
Congratulations on the well-earned PR! That's a huge feat, especially when I saw how hilly LA course is (1100+ ft of gain according to my friend's Garmin). It totally means you're in sub-3 shape. A flatter course and it's yours. Should give you all the confidence!
amazing effort, knocking on the door of sub 3!
Another step closer! Be happy with the PR, rest and go again. 💨💨💨
I'm crying|!!! BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!! I will run my very first marathon in just under 2 weeks, the Paris Marathon... feeling absolutely terrified and excited at the same time, and your videos are incredibly helpful AND inspirational!! Again, BRAVO!!!
Thanks for sharing Mike..it’s beautiful..never been on marathon before..but, seeing this, hopefully I can make it someday..congratz
Awesome job KO, those ASICS are 🔥
This is brilliant Mike - absolutely fantastic - great video and well done 👍
Congrats!!!! So great to meet you and to see Floris at the start! Wonderful finish together as well. Awesome~~
know you're probably disappointed because you were close to sub-3, but it was inspiring to watch you put 110% effort in. not what you wanted, but you still got a great time and a PR
So impressed and still polite lol. You did AWESOME!!
I came at 3:00:34 on my last marathon, on a much easier course, I can feel your pain. But man, respect. You are really the most consistent running RUclipsr. Your training shows, your races are all great. I hope you realize how much you inspire your viewers, because your results actually reflect your journeys.
I just looked up the results and saw seven other runners between 3:00 and Mike. One at 3:00:09. I have run 3:00:16 at LA marathon 🙂
Thank you so much!
It’s giving legend vibes !!!
Congrats on the PR!! That was a gutsy effort!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Hell yah, Ko! Inspiring to see you battle like that. Way to go
Improvement is improvement, you're still getting stronger and faster. Great race!
Super super awesome! As every time: Thanks for the motivation! Can't wait for my next 42.2 💪🏼😎
What an inspiration to battle through a difficult stretch. I’m feeling motivated and inspired for my half marathon coming up in May. Great work Ko!
Great video! Uphill last mile is a killer!
Those guys were AWESOME! I LOVE IT!!! WAY TO FIGHT!!!
Incredible video, congrats Kofuzi! That Jimmy Dean guy seems so cool with the way he was helping you out at the end and after the race. I wish I could train with someone that like that!
Way to hang in there when the going got tough and congrats on a stellar result! Surprisingly found myself a little emotional towards the end of the video. Thanks for sharing and continuing to inspire!
You are the man! I'm having my coffee and heading out on a run. Motivated
Oh man just what I needed! My marathon is Sunday! Congratulations on the PR!
You got from Echo Park to Santa Monica faster than if you had driven. Well done!!
wow, what an effort. I cannot believe you take such awesome video running at those speeds. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Congratulations on the PB. Wicked job and another inspirational video.
