I swear to god, every other Lightroom tutorial about calibration goes like this: "So usually what I do is that I slide these to each end and see what happens, you can get my masterclass for $200". It's so nice to see someone actually explain this!
haha i hear you. it's my goal to break that kind of stigma :)
No one has yet to explain exactly what this does still. Even Adobe.
I agree :)
Very true!
Right?! Haha 😆 Good point
The color wheel example was super useful to understand the diff bw hue and calibration, good stuff Pat!
thanks Vishal! cheers for watching!
Yup. It helps understand the difference of the global & individual sliders affect on the colors. I can use & like the individual sliders but, never had much luck with the global adjustments for my edits, therefore I tend to stay away from it. Maybe I'll play with them some more.
As a non-academic photographer, I have never heard anyone in the 10 years of shooting talking about calibration like this
Immensely useful! Thanks for this video.
Yeah, this *actually* did changed my life
haha i'm glad :)
It's been over a year and I still think this is one of the best Lightroom info videos I've ever seen. Thanks Pat!
This was the first video I've ever seen from your channel and it was so well done that I look forward to seeing what other useful photography things you have to teach. Cheers dude!
Same here, thanks RUclips for showing me such an amazing channel. Keep it up Pat!!!!
it really was well done
ngl I went into this expecting another useless "tutorial" video that boils down to 'buy my presets' but this was actually incredibly useful. Like actually worth the title "will change your lightroom editing forever". The color wheel example made it all super clear as well, appreciate the video!
haha i'm glad you think so. thanks for watching :)
Hey Pat! The RUclips algorithm gods have blessed you and you were in my recommended videos! I’m glad I found you; you’re so in depth and well versed. Exactly what I’m looking for. Subbed!
Was going to comment this exact thing! Glad the RUclips Gods are here for us :)
Looking forward to seeing more of work Pat!
Calibration panel is one of those ones which you can't just mess around with and see what happens...REALLY needed this. thanks a lot!
Well explained - nice channel Pat!
thanks Ted! i've been a long-time watcher of yours! appreciate your work.
I cant find the calibration tool in my LR, I don't have a development tab. can u please help?
@@prplayer17 we are referring to Lightroom CLASSIC with a valid license, this is how you can use the develpment tab
The way that I went "ooooh", "ahh", "*gasp*" while watching this, you'd think I was watching something else. Eyegasmic lesson.
thx for your unexcited, not artificially exaggerated explanations. Makes it comfortable to follow.
The way you pack more information into an 18 minute video than some of my (not photography related) grad school lectures is seriously impressive. I'm so excited to practice this feature- trying to learn every aspect of Lightroom's side bar one element at a time!! Thanks for demystifying this one so clearly!!
I've been photographing and editing photos in Photoshop and Lightroom for almost ten years now and this video gave me so much new ideas I thought was not possible. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, man!
I had begun to play with these calibration sliders, as well, though I had not yet "taken notes" do try to master them. I wonder if our reluctance to learn about this power is the name Adobe gave this panel.
"Calibration" sounds like something inextricably linked to the hardware, while using the white balance eyedropper/sampler seemed "no fuss". What seemed to be missing was a straightforward way to do something similar in a one-click move, in the calibration panel.
Your demonstration really showed me how the power of these two panels can be used together to Great advantage! Thank you, Muchly, Pat! You have gone a long way toward helping us transform our work INTO Our work, using what we already have.
This is the most in depth video/content about this topic I’ve seen. Really thankful for this.
thank you! exactly what i was aiming for :)
Wow thank you so much for this! I feel this is exactly what I’ve been looking for to help me find my style (visual look) in my photography. Thanks Pat!!
The absolute BEST explanation of color calibration I have seen on You Tube…thanks!!!!
One of the top explanations of calibration and certainly the best for explaining potential uses
I haven’t even started taking photos let alone editing yet and getting such and so much valuable information and elaborations from you is so helpful! Thank you so much!
Man, THE BEST EXPLANATION of this tool like EVER!!! Thank you and keep up the amazing work that you do! Absolutely love the stuff that you make!🙏🏼😊
The best editing video I’ve watched this year. Thank you so much!
That was an awesome explanation, thank you so much. Having the knowledge of why the changes occur is so important, particularly the example at the start. Thanks again.
I flipping LOVE you, Pat! Your explanations are straightforward, easy to understand & so invaluable to someone like me who is JUST starting my photography journey. I only need to hit your channel to find my answers. Thanks so much for your time!
Exceptionally well done, Pat ! You've a talent for making the complex understandable without oversimplifying the entire process. I'd love to see a follow on to this introduction where you could expand on how the two tools, Calibration and the HSL sliders interact. I'm a bit fuzzy on when and why you cease editing in Calibration and shift over to the HSL approach. But many, many thanks for helping me find a way to make Fuji's interpretation of what chartreuse is vs my preference for what these great green/yellow Spring colors should look like. Be well and stay safe. Slainte !
Brilliantly explained. Clear and concise with enough depth of the technical aspects to be relevant but not so much as to be confusing or to put people off. Great job Pat. Instant sub.
After tons of lightroom tutorial videos, i found that your video is really helpful and truly understand the use of each functions compared to others. Thanks for sharing all these experience and knowledge on RUclips, looking forward to learn more from you. Thanks Pat!
Thanks for explaining this Pat, great video!
The best explanation , I'm glad I found this channel
GAME CHANGER. Thank you for posting this! 🙌
This is clutch! I never had the courage to learn all the details and functions of LR. But adding this video to another one I saw about color grading. It has made my edits a lot crisper and gave my colors more of a pro level look ! Thanks for this video Pat!
I would add that to go one step beyond in "color science", screen calibration is very important! Great video, I am definitely going to try this out!
great piece of content! thank you for putting this together Pat!
Great piece of knowledge. So happy to find your video. Thanks!
Wow, thanks so much for all your work on this topic. Very well explained. Amazing.
probably the most useful video I've watched this whole year. You have singlehandedly changed my editing workflow, great video Pat!
I've only used Lightroom for small edits but your videos have helped me a lot. Thank you so much. Your videos feel like an actual class of photography and I love it!!!
Great tutorial, thank you for sharing! Definitely worth the watch.
Thank you for sharing all this knowledge!
This is so awesome!! Thank you for sharing!
Great tutorial, I finally learned the basic of the calibration tool and some practical tips on how to use it!
AMAZING! thank you for such an informative video!
Hard follow this channel!! I literally did not know what people mean by “colour science” and “calibration”. Thank you! I have assigned you as my master!
Truly fascinating, thanks Pat! 👌
This is so helpful! Thank you!
This one's a game changer for me! Nobody else I subscribe to talks about the Calibration Tool (if not, barely). It's always about the Hue sliders. Thanks for another quality upload, Pat!
If everyone put as much effort into their content as you do... the mind boggles at the cumulative minutes of wasted time saved. Useful information, clearly presented, minimal filler. Instant Subscribe.
im glad you enjoyed my style of presentation! thanks for the sub :)
This literally is amazing ! Thank u!!!
Oh my god, I swear you have the best tutorial/learning videos about lightroom and especially colour aspects! I'm definitely subscribing!
Yes, you were absolutely right. For me I can say that I nearly ever used the calibration tool. But I will do now. Thank you for your good explanation. What I would like to see is another practicing video where you have pictures that focus on smaller things so that the before and after effect can be seen better. Hope you can understand.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Nice!!! Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks so much for explaining this. I think now I'm understanding this tool and I can't wait to redo some of my favorit Imagies!
Great video, thanks Pat
I. Just. Love. It! This is so amazing and as an illustrator so easy for me to understand and use it in my works. I always try to reduce this weird color fog without effing the photo. Thank you so so so sooo much!
Vary well done Pat. Thank you.
Very well explained. much appreciated. thanks

Master of explaining colours
This is so incredibly well explained. Thanks so much!!
Such a great video! Now I know a lot more about editing and colors! Thanks!
So this is by far the most practical lesson in calibration. Eye-opening. Thank you!
This was such a great video. You actually explained reasoning behind the changes you were making, not just sliding it around and seeing what you like. Never considered using calibration, but I will now!
Keep it up, always good to support a fellow Aussie 👍
thanks for watching mate!
perfect video! completely understandable! Can't wait to see more
Thanks Pat. That was revelatory. So excited to start using this.
Thanks for the inspiration Pat.
Thank you, I have been using this tool for a pretty long time now but never went so in depth with it - really well explained!
That was super informative. Thank you for sharing!
Really well explained and perfect examples with different photographic styles. Glad I found your channel! :)
Still bringing value to viewers 9 months later, thanks for making this.

Fantastic video! Thank you
Wonderful tutorial - thank you!
Great vid man 🙏
Great video - best explanation of Colour Science - thank you!
Calibration well explained! Awesome work Pat Kay! 👍🌟🙂
Thanks. This is an avenue to color adjustment ideas I've been imagining but didn't know how to affect. You're the first person I've ever know to use the word "whilst" without reading it from a book.
You learn something new everyday! Glad I came across your video i’ll definitely add this to my editing process!
well explained for such a complicated topic. love this dude!
Watched once and then changed my post processing to practice while post processing on one computer and watching it two more times on another computer. Very practical and functional.
Best tutorial on calibration I have ever seen. Great examples, well thought out content.
Trust me.. This single video differentiates you from everyone else out there. I have been a LR user for years, and this couldn't be simplified any more. Thanks a TONeeee ❤️❤️❤️
You explained this really well, thank you 🙏🏽
A video I needed for a long time, thanks so much!
Well demonstrated and really useful. Just subscribed. Thanks!
