Fun fact from a local: In the rain forest exhibit we had a Komodo Dragon exhibit until she laid eggs on her own. While this might be not unusual, hers actually hatched! The babies were put on exhibit in the reptile house for a while before being transferred elsewhere. And the adult female we had was sent to England to be studied, apparently she was the first female in captivity to do that. Unfortunately we no longer have any Komodo Dragons but everyone was abuzz when this happened.

I got lots to say about this zoo because I've grown up going here. I recommend coming in the spring or summer when more things are on display because a lot of animals are unable to handle our winters very well. South America/Australia and also the rain forest were closed for a while during when this video was released because we had bird flu cases in a few of the wild ducks that like to eat the kio food. So to protect the other birds we couldn't go in. This zoo has been making plans to expand qute a bit in the near future. While it may not be as interesting or as big as others especially those in California I recommend people come and visit. It is always fun and I know I enjoy sharing the zoo I grow up going to.

When I was 18 I volunteered at this zoo, in the reptile house (mainly). I got to feed the aldabra tortoises, and they love getting their necks scratched. I also got to help feed the freshwater stingrays they have. We threw worms in the water, and the sucked them up like little roomba! Soo cute. I love the bats just just hand from the top of the rainforest exhibit. Working at the zoo was so much fun.

I'm a member of this Zoo that visits a handful of times every month, and I grew up going to this Zoo as a child. Those childhood trips to the Sedgwick County Zoo are a big reason why I'm so passionate about animals today!! You've got to come back sometime in the Summer to experience everything the Zoo has to offer, including Giraffe feedings, a riverboat tour, and a Stingray touch tank!! The Australia/South America section is a bird lover's dream and the Tropics building is the most incredible indoors wildlife facility I've ever seen!! It's one of my favorite Zoos in the country, and they're always working to expand and improve living conditions for their animals, as well as improve the guest experience!!

The reptile house used to be pitch black inside. Instead of the alligators they had gahriels (spelling is wrong) one passed away & they shipped the other one out. It was so dark in there you couldn’t see someone standing next to you but if you stayed long enough your eyes would adjust & you were able to see the crocs really well in the water. They also had a small room you could walk through where the desert lizards ran around but I think they kept getting out of the room because people wouldn’t shut the doors well enough.

I work for mosquito Joe…. I am a newfound reptile lover though of the last few years and I hate killing things but I would say that id rather someone responsible spraying that has some kinda respect for the wildlife then someone with no care about nature and Mother Earth! I fight my feeings about it often but on the other hand they say mosquitoes are the most deadly creature in the world but idk if that constitutes trying to prevent them as it’s done these days with sprays…😢 idk man I don’t think it’s going anywhere so why not try and control what’s sprayed and care about and avoid all other animals and water features at all cost… I could imagine someone who didn’t care the damage that could possibly be done if spraying into water or something like that. Iv heard people getting scared of snakes while spraying and spray the snakes and that saddens me for loss of other words right now! Don’t judge me! Believe it or not I don’t even kill spiders in my house or a fly even. But happened to get this job where I can herp while working but also control how places are sprayed someone else who had my position may not care like I do so maybe helping out In that way!

The common name king cobra is never going to leave that snake (though if you really don't like using it for some reason, Hamadryad is another already established one). It's been known for decades that they're not particularly related to the true cobras, but the current expected change isn't about that, it's more that they're likely to be split into multiple species. Something that's probably long overdue, since there are huge differences between the animals from Java, India, the Philippines etc.

Being as their common name has nothing to do with their scientific classification. Cobras being in their own genus Naja and these have there own genus. There's no reason for their common name to change as the still display cobra like behaviours. If the case that they aren't true cobras means we cannot call them the king cobra then we would false water cobra would need to be referred to their other common name the Brazilian smooth snake. Or we could just do away with common names completely and refer to everything with their scientific name.

1:10 there used to be food pellet vending machines all along this bridge. You could pay a coin for a punch of pellets. Unfortunately those vending machines have been removed. I imagine that’s because they would often run out of pellets and the vending machines weren’t electric so you couldn’t get your quarter back with a push of a button. You had to go inform the staff. I’d guess you can see a couple problems with this situation.
