- The Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Kansas is a world renowned zoo, and of course, I made a bee-line directly to the reptile house...with a slight zoo tour detour in between.

King Mamba, write it down.
Great video! 🎉
I hated to see the tour end. I don't get far due to chronic illnesses so these videos really help me stay connected to the outside world seeing things if love to but can't at the moment. Thank you for brightening my day 🙂
Glad to have you along!
Once again, I'm thrilled to see our Zoo so upfront and shown to the world. And, again, I'm inspired to get my butt out to our Zoo again. It's been a while since I've last gone. Thanks again, Dav. ❤😊
I love the sedgwick county zoo. I loved it when I was a kid, and now I am 50 and still love it. I think it is one of the best zoos.
Proud local happy to see you enjoyed your time. Youve got to come back to the tropical building, the smell and humidity, all the bird songs while surrounded by incredible foliage, its a whole sensory experience. Like a little slice of the rainforest.
Holy crap holy crap holy crap that's my local zoo! I love that you loved our reptile house!!
me too!
Nice to meet others native to this zoo!
When I was 18 I volunteered at this zoo, in the reptile house (mainly). I got to feed the aldabra tortoises, and they love getting their necks scratched. I also got to help feed the freshwater stingrays they have. We threw worms in the water, and the sucked them up like little roomba! Soo cute. I love the bats just just hand from the top of the rainforest exhibit. Working at the zoo was so much fun.
Im so glad this popped up in my recommended! Im from wichita and that zoo is very underrated. I felt like a kid again watching
That's great!
No way! This is my local zoo! That reptile house helped fuel my love of snakes as a kid. It’s so cool you went to see it! (no one ever comes to Kansas)
The koi were saying buy some fish food and feed us!! There's food machines in the children's zoo and there should be a souvenir shack close by that sells fish food.
It’s hilarious watching someone get turned around (my mental map of where you were was going off the whole time). I hope you enjoyed!! I grew up here as my dad worked with the elephants and still go once a week with my friends!
'I'm so turned around...ooh, gorillas!'
Sounds like me at the zoo...
The koi are saying "jump in!"
As an alumni from Friends University Zoo and animal Science degree ( program partnered with SCZ) I am so glad you enjoyed your visit to my “home” institution. The reptile crew works hard and doesn’t always get a lot of love from the public.
Fun fact from a local: In the rain forest exhibit we had a Komodo Dragon exhibit until she laid eggs on her own. While this might be not unusual, hers actually hatched! The babies were put on exhibit in the reptile house for a while before being transferred elsewhere. And the adult female we had was sent to England to be studied, apparently she was the first female in captivity to do that. Unfortunately we no longer have any Komodo Dragons but everyone was abuzz when this happened.
The Chinese leopard even has squinty eyes! You know he's an authentic Asian leopard that way
Fun fact
The Sedgwick County Zoo is the 7th largest zoo in the country, and I do believe it's #1 in the amount of area per animal.
The koi are all saying "MORE FISH PELLETS! MOOOOOOARRRRR!!!"
I just want to share how amazingly important our albino bison is due to our indigenous population and what it means to them and all indigenous populations. They are amazingly rare!
I've always loved going to the sedgwick zoo, though even with living in the area it's been a little bit sense I've been able to go. However the recent announcement they made about 4 of the elephants expecting babies have made me want to go again soon!
I'd love to be there for that!
Well it takes about 22 months for the little calves to come into the world so it would be something to see
Thank you for featuring our amazing zoo!
That is an incredible zoo!!
Bison love rolling in Christmas trees.
There's a smell they absolutely love!
#RattleOn
I haven't been the sedgwick zoo in like 15 years and I live 10 minutes away. Appreciate the updated tour lol
Koi: "Feed me Seymour!"
I love your positive attitude! I live here and always tell everyone that January and February are the worst months to visit Kansas. It’s bitterly cold but without pretty snow, and too soon for spring to have sprung. But please come back again in a better season! We have amazing zoos, Sedgwick Co, Tanganyika, and Rolling Hills. Thanks for visiting!
Dude!!! I had no idea that you visited! I actually work at this zoo in the education department.
Im kicking myself for missing you haha!
We love the zoo adventures. I’m putting this zoo on our bucket list
I used to visit the Sedgwick County Zoo when I was a kid. It is a cool zoo and the best time to visit it is in the summer time the best buildings to visit there is the herpaterium and the rainforest. There are a lot of good animal exhibits there.
I'm so loving these zoo tours. That zoo is just really awesome I so need to go visit there and alot of other places you have toured .
So glad you're enjoying!
@@DavKaufmansAdventures I love all your content I been watching you since 2009 when u did your first herpers time movie
Id rather not change the name of king cobra, its what we know it as and has been for so long, but the mamba connection makes since looking at the face and personality. If it must be changed, King Mamba? Still my most fave hot snake next to the gabby
definitely come back in the summertime. so much more to see there really is!
Love this zoo. Glad to see you giving our local zoo some love.
Grew up going here, its been an amazing ride seeing it change over the years. I dont get out of wichita much so i never thought about how other zoos would compare. Its awesome to hear ita one of the best!
They have zoo slumber parties. You can bring a sleeping bag and sleep in the reptile house. Well, it's usually children who stay, but why not.
The Aldabra tortoises have an off exhibit home and an outside enclosure for when its watm outside. I know the inside display isn't the greatest, but they dont stay there
They didn't look too good 😬
@@MotherTruckinReptilesThose guys are very spoiled.
I live in Wichita and they are extremely spoiled and they mate often showing they are comfortable
@@mototrrtle2327 can confirm. Been to a couple fundraisers at the zoo. Paid $20 to feed them fresh veggies to raise money for the zoo. It's wild that someone thinks they're not taken care of 😂. Our zoo spoils all of their animals, and the community raises 100s of thousands of dollars. Zoobilee alone!
I'm from Wichita. Great job! Thank you.
The black tailed rattlesnake was my first venomous snake .When I was 19 I traded two Savannah monitors for a hatchling black tailed . She was so well behaved too
This is my home zoo. The king cobras name is Moose!
I am extremely late and I am so sorry, I had somethings I had to do today. Its cool that you got to have the zoo all to yourself. The fish were wanting some food. That penguin is too cute. Great vlog today as always. Have an awesome Friday
I got lots to say about this zoo because I've grown up going here. I recommend coming in the spring or summer when more things are on display because a lot of animals are unable to handle our winters very well. South America/Australia and also the rain forest were closed for a while during when this video was released because we had bird flu cases in a few of the wild ducks that like to eat the kio food. So to protect the other birds we couldn't go in. This zoo has been making plans to expand qute a bit in the near future. While it may not be as interesting or as big as others especially those in California I recommend people come and visit. It is always fun and I know I enjoy sharing the zoo I grow up going to.
you NEED to come back! There are now stingrays, A New Tiger exibit, not 1, not 2, but FOUR pregnant elephants, and quite a few new reptiles
oh and australia and South America is open again :)
We even have a train now
@@roguetheundying397 oh yeah I forgot about that and they recently remodeled the tiger exhibit
I'm so grateful for your detour, I live nearby and cannot go in the gorilla exhibit.
Those Koi wanted popcorn. I hope you come back when it's warmer out. It's quite different! We have the best zoo in the area!
I had the privilege to be the overnight security guard there a few times. Some of my fun experiences include the time the lion scared the absolute hell out of me, hearing the hyenas laugh in the distance while in pitch black darkness, and finding the elephants playing and bellowing to each other during a rainstorm.
maybe time for a dav kaufman collection tour?
I grew up going to SZC! I used to volunteer in the African Veldt. It’s an incredible place!!
I adore the Sedgwick county zoo. I worked in guest services for a little bit during college. I remember hearing behind the scenes we have a massive venemous snake population. We're a part of a ton of conservation programs too. We have a couple birds from Guam that are extinct in the wild over in the jungle house and that walksway you showed goes over our mexican wolf exhibit.
Have you been to the Woodland Park Zoo yet? It's one of the best zoos I've ever been too and I have been to both that one and the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. If you do make it to Woodland Park, make sure your shoes are in good shape and be prepared to climb the hills. The good thing is that it gets easier going down the hill.
I haven’t. Where is it?
@@DavKaufmansAdventures It's in Seattle. The address listed on the web site is 5500 Phinney Ave. N. But, it's a big zoo. It's been a while since I've been there. The last time was with a group of school children. It was their end of the year field trip. According to the zoo's web site, it is open everyday except for Christmas Day.
The point defiance zoo is Tacoma. Used to work there.
Thanks for the tour!
Awesome to see you review my local zoo!
That penguin following you was definitely my highlight today!! Great video and lots of educational info mixed in with your oh so loved humor 😂
Loved that you visited this amazing zoo! I grew up in the Wichita area and spent quite a bit of time there. I'm also glad to see its continued expansion and improvement. As a kid, the Reptile house was always my favorite, and it still is! Hope you're enjoying Kansas!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Do another Sedgwick county zoo video in the summer!
Those flamingos are different colors because they are different types of flamingos lol. One is Caribbean and darker pink and the other is a greater flamingo and lighter.
The Amur leopards are mostly in Russia, partially china. They come from the Amur Oblast in Russia.
Awwww the penguin! Love these zoo tours every time you post one!
Great vid! Fresno Zoo also has a nice reptile zoo. King cobra, an Indigo, mata mata and some other very cool species. Just don't go in the summer! Denver & San Diego also have beautiful collections! ...Next time you're in our neck o'the woods! 🥰
Didn't know our zoo was thought that highly. Pretty cool
That penguin being so happy to see you made me smile. I don't know what name would replace King Cobra with enough respect for such a Majestic snake. That's going to be a tough one.
I’ve been to that zoo about two years ago. My favorite part of the zoo was the reptile house. Definitely one of the best zoos I’ve visited.
I'm catching up on your videos today and always have something to comment about.
You are so funny and your quick wit is totally appreciated and I'm sure that your humor goes wasted on people who don't "get you"... same here!
When you were trying to find the reptile house and ended up on the complete opposite side of the zoo I laughed so hard.
Thanks for the tour!
Oooh...an elephant! 🐘
Thank you so much!!
King Mamba if there has to be a name change. Inspired me to visit a local zoo at this time of year. I like the idea of the place to myself 😊
I Never heard of a King Mamba . I've know of the Black Mamba & Green Mamba.
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Serpent King Kaufman ? Has a nice ring to it .
The Koi are saying "Rattle on" LOL
You're like me with my ADHD haha. Intended to go to the reptile house first, proceeded to get distracted by everything else along the way 😂
This zoo is pretty sweet! I love the set up and your commentary has me cracking up lol 😂
“Idk where I’m going with this” lmao literally me every time I speak
St louis zoo reptile house is amazing, they also offer a behind the scenes tour there.
My home town!!! The reptile section is cool and terrifies me because I don’t like reptiles
Lol dav is full of piss and vinegar in this one!
Koi, "I hope this isn't a Fishing Adventures episode."
The koi are saying " Come on in Dav. The water's fine." Was the Aldabra enclosure bigger than what we saw? They need to roam and graze. They look cramped and sad. Reminded me of the grey concrete boxes from zoos in the 70's.
I consider myself a cougar joke.
Mamba #5 lol
Lol
You should visit Saint Louis Zoo - Their Herpitarium is top tier!
Love the videos. Greetings from Charleston, SC.
Koi are saying Give us Foodies!!!
The reptile house used to be pitch black inside. Instead of the alligators they had gahriels (spelling is wrong) one passed away & they shipped the other one out. It was so dark in there you couldn’t see someone standing next to you but if you stayed long enough your eyes would adjust & you were able to see the crocs really well in the water. They also had a small room you could walk through where the desert lizards ran around but I think they kept getting out of the room because people wouldn’t shut the doors well enough.
There's a river running through the zoo and in the summer you can take boat tours that are so fun
Dāv, you have gotta check out The Birmingham Zoo in Alabama. It’s absolutely beautiful! I was incredibly lucky to grow up going there and my older brother is one of the head keepers!
Have you ever been to the Tulsa or Oklahoma City zoos? They have amazing reptile exhibits
I wish he would have went to the jungle exhibit. that's my favorite.
Besides the reptile exhibit
I do too but it also was closed
I went there years ago . I always love how the zoo is tornado proofed by all of those artificial hills to act as a storm shelter . Florida zoos should take a lesson .
King false cobra lol. King badass
If you're ever in Michigan check out the John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids on the west side. Pretty cool place
FYI there's two species of flamingos in there, one is pinker than the other
Exactly!
don't know if it was closed when you came to visit, but next time you're here, make sure you go in the tropics house... it's an amazing walk-through aviary ... has always been one of my favorites
Also, all of our age-appropriate elephants are pregnant so soon that herd is going to grow!
How do magnets work?
Those are actually two species of flamingo! The American/Caribbean flamingo is the deeply vibrant one.
This is our home zoo, those coy were saying ur mean for not getting fish food from the coin operated machine at the end of the bridge.
Visit Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville TX
💜💚💜💜💜💚💜
def come back mearly to mid fall, temp is just rigth and a lot of activity's going on
I'm like the penguins I spin 75 percent in the water whenever it comes to the pool
first in the comments lol. the koi are saying feed me bigfoot
That's exactly what I thought lol
1:30 They are saying :"food... give me food"
The silverback is thinking “I need more acreage”
Dang that is an hour away from me. We haven’t been there for a few years and the Australian exhibit is always closed
There used to be massive snakes hanging from the ceiling in the reptile house back in the 1980's/90's
I bet Dav gets to interact w cougars all the time.
*Dav Kaufman* what's the difference in the "chuck wala and the hydrax"? Forgive me for spelling it wrong
10:30 that guy is thinking about what he would do to you if that glass wasn't in the way. He just displayed. He's definitely mad about something.
