I actually work as a keeper here, I was happy to have met you all at Tinley this year hope you enjoyed your visit! Wish I had a chance to see you all at the zoo!
Back about a dozen years or so I was working at Audubon Zoo in New Orleans as an educator and sometimes keeper. I remember when Bubba the male lion from the Brookfield Zoo arrived. Were you there then and do you remember him? I left a few years later and our female lions had still not quite accepted him poor guy. I still have a few recordings of him roaring in the mornings around the time that I normally would arrive. I also have several photos of him one of which he is raising his head and roaring beautifully which we used in our materials to attract volunteers. We really loved working with him much more so than the female lions we already had because whenever they looked in your direction, you felt like lunch. Bubba was not like that at all. The worst thing that I remember happening around him was getting marked/sprayed by accident as I stepped into the line of fire lol totally my fault. They let me borrow a uniform and go take a shower in the locker room in the middle of the day lol. I don't know who laughed harder me or the staff around me. He really got me pretty good completely by accident. I never lived it down and often got asked things like if I was feeling "pissy today?" or "what's that cologne you wear again Bubba something?" etc lol
The Okapi exhibit at the Brookfield Zoo is one of my daughters all time favorite places in the world. She was gifted a stuffed Okapi she named Tinny as a toddler and the first time she saw them in person she was beyond excited!
Thank you for going to a childhood fun place of mine!!! I havent seen Brookfield nor Lincoln park zoos since the 1980s! this was a fun video to watch!!!
I grew up in the area so going to the Brookfield Zoo was a staple of my childhood and I still go from time to time! It’s a awesome zoo, happy to see you all went. 😊
7:00 or so, Emily asked about a species that looked like a Timor Python, very closely related to Retics but a different species only somewhat bred in captivity. Beautiful, and hopefully captive bred for some more generations so they are a little less cantankerous lol.
I think I need a list of where all the Mold-A-Rama machines are… 😂 Is this a Mid-West thing? My childhood collection is also crushed pennies with patterns based on the location, like the zoo or museum’s name and an image. Mostly East Coast locations, maybe DC as well. Every time I went to the same place multiple times, I tried to remember what I got the previous time to avoid repeats. 😂 51 cents, had to carry quarters and pennies.
I remember those Mold O Ramas from when I was a kid. I forgot all about them and thought they no longer existed until I saw one featured on the Justin Scarred channel. It's good to see that these machines exist elsewhere,e they bring back memories. I think if I iever visit a place that has one of these machines I'm going to have to get whatever they offer for old time's sake. Btw, I like your choice of music. That;s the xame track that Edwin Sarkissian uses on hi channel. I'ts always funny/interesting whenever Ihear the same piece of music being used on different channels.
11:30 Smear benadryl gel on you, got stung by moon jellies on back of the knee as a kid on a night snorkeling trip to see phosphorescent plankton. I was the only one of the 12 people on the trip that got stung. Something slimy touched my leg, I got out because my first thought was jellyfish, mom made be get back in because I was "imagining things and it was probably just a fish." I immediately got stung getting back in. Everyone got out, the guide shined a flashlight to find the boat surrounded by 8 inch diameter moon jellies
How did I miss this?? Brookfield is the "big zoo" for the region really, and is only a couple hours from where I grew up.. That Jamaican Boa was beautiful. As are the rattlesnakes.
@@LonghornInOmaha I think I missed it this time around! Well, next time I will keep my eyes peeled. My favorite is the Lied Jungle. I could sit in there all day long.
I used to collect the moldarama ones as well...unfortunately, mine were all destroyed in a move...the Henry Ford Museum and Chicago Science Museum have a lot of them if I remember right
Growing up in the Peruvian Amazon we had a caiman lizard in our science room (along with Peruvian redtail boa, anaconda, caecilian, baby opossums, baby spectacled caimans, etc. The bird that flew by just before you showed the road runner is some species of curassow, a gallinaceous bird of the jungle. The little one of the floor with the half disc on its beak is probably some type of cotinga (the same family as the cock-of-the-rock. The grey bird with the red beak is an inca tern from the coast of Peru. Great looking bird!)
I really want to go to the Brookfield Zoo at some point, mainly to see their pangolin! but it seems they have some rare herps as well which is always a plus
I live in AZ, anytime you want to come herping you are welcome. Free place to stay, beer, and cool reptiles. Great video as always. We have a couple pretty good zoos

I wish I can visit every zoo & animal park in the world. That would be a awesome new thing for your channel Dave. Do a global check list. Maybe end it at Australia Zoo (:
It's been years since I have been to Brookfield zoo. I live in Illinois so it's about three hours from me. If you haven't been to the Kansas City zoo it's worth going. We went this year. I try to visit at least one zoo every time we go on vacation.
It's look like an awesome zoo. I'm from Belgium and in Antwerp we have one of the oldest (and one of the most beautiful in my opinion, but I'm biast) zoo in the world. They are the ones in charge off the breeding program for okapi's.
I went a couple years and overall it’s a great zoo, I do think that the addax and Przewalski’s horses need better enclosures and when they brought back okapi skins they thought it was a type of zebra and named it equus johnstoni, before they discovered a live specimen and saw just how bizarre it really was
When I was in elementary school i purposely ask my science teacher where is lake Titicaca in front of the whole class 😅 she end up sending me to detention and told me is inappropriate to say that in class 🤷🏻 I was just curious 🤣seeing Titicaca on the map next to Peru and Bolivia🙃

@@DavKaufmansAdventures well the paperwork I'm working on, I wasn't aware you needed a broker LOL definitely a good tip. Looks like I know just have to find a contact in Madagascar
@@surfpanther Uhhh.. why are you trying to export animals from Madagascar? That seems like a horribly irresponsible plan, at best. I have never seen a Mold-a-Rama before! Very cool!

Molds was the fun part as kid going to zoo for field trips. I think remember they were like $1.00 back in the 80’s
