    I had to leave for 2 weeks. My dogs are 10 years old. One is DA, and the other is HA. Used to board them while traveling, but like yours, they smelled, had diarrhea, and it took them 3 days to get back to normal. Therefore, my parents flew all the way from Europe to watch my dogs. They didn't want them in boarding, plus they had some vacation here. Love my parents for that, and my dogs had the best time while I was gone. Great idea btw.

    We had 8 dogs at one time, most were rescues, all different breeds. What worked VERY WELL for us ( several times ) is to have the dogs stay in our/ their home ( benefit of a familiar environment) and we would hire bonded / experienced dog sitters to either visit them twice a day or stay the entire time. One was a friend’s sister who was in college and planned to attend veterinary school. Boarding has so many potential negatives . We could always check on with our petsitters and they would leave voice messages ( this was before texting days ). Worked well for us as long as one is very selective on the pet sitter.

    • @cherylmillard2067
      @cherylmillard2067 13 дней назад

      It doesn't matter if they're bonded or very experienced, random catastrophic accidents happen, and nothing can bring your dog back in spite of our best efforts to keep them safe.
      I include my dogs in my vacations, I would miss and worry about them too much to have fun. Fritz a pointer is a mobility task/public access trained service dog is with me 24/7 and Maxine, a Belgian Malinois is a pet dog trained to service dog public access standards.

    • @ediewall6360
      @ediewall6360 13 дней назад

      @@cherylmillard2067 Understood and I have also seen many videos on that specific breed and their needs as well as abilities. My dogs ARE my CHILDREN. They see homeopathic vets ( standard vets are not good enough) they get homemade dogfood and many many supplements. When you have 8 dogs ( most being strays or rescues ) you cannot take them on a plane or whatever. Do we adapt to NOT go anywhere or just one of us leaves ? Yes! We do not have full control of the rest of the world though. I screen pet sitters very carefully. If we don’t have a good one, then we alter plans. I am retired now so much easier.
      If people are very careful and do their research and get recommendations from friends it CAN be safer than boarding.

    My dog went to a kennel for the 1st time recently and he absolutely loved it! They spoiled him rotten! I got several videos a day from the owners of him relaxing on the sofa (he's not even allowed on the furnuture at home) playing ball in the yard and "helping" them clean the kennel in the morning. My daughter said he didn't want to leave when she went to pick him up and bring him home. She had to promise the owners that we'd bring him back for visits.

    I ended up having a baby horse, whose momma died at birth in August. I instantly became the foal's momma. But i travel for a couple weeks, every other month....
    And that baby had to be fed every couple hours around the clock. So i ended up building her a portable stall that fits in my work van which i can take all 4 walls apart and put it together by myself as needed. It worked great. But now she's really too big for it...i guess they grow fast when you feed them well. Lol.

    I deal with cats, a lot of cats and maybe it would work to get a large kiddy swimming pool and put some litter in it and cover it with that fake grass (put a something in it tall) and see if they'd pee there? Maybe a fake fire hydrant - something that would make your small dog think he's really marking by using it. Just a thought. Love your idea and yay boarding is difficult - I used to have 2 dogs and there were times that my parents couldn't take care of them and then you deal with vet offices wanting shots, etc plus it's very stressful for the animal - while you're have fun, your animal is totally stressed - Great suggestion, thank you.

    We have a dog sitter who visits the pups during the day to walk them and stays overnight. We also have a dog door so the dogs can go in and out during the day. Have 3 dogs so it’s cheaper than boarding. Also, we go for extended periods of time so it’s too long to leave them on their own. Not a solution for everyone but works well for us.

    Love this! My dog has a kennel/dog run with house in our back yard. The food and water bowls spin out for no contact feeding. The house is heated for winter and also has a fan to blow out hot air in the summer. Unfortunately we can't use automatic feeders for food because he is on a raw diet either frozen or freeze dried. The freeze dried must be rehydrated so unless I could get a feeder that drops both the portion of food and water into one bowl, I have to rely on family to come by or board. Maybe I will think of a solution that my husband can build😊😂. Thanks for a great video.

Used 2ft×4ft piece for divider on the bottom middle and sandwiched a dual fan in upper part of middle so both could be cool of needed. Raised decks with Pig Mats that auto shut off when dog temperature. Pine shavings on the floor or straw depending on availability in the winter. Screwed two 4 liter coolers with plastic waste basket inserts for water. Never froze and stalls never got below 40°F even in a Wisconsin winter

I agree with everyone else about adding carpet to the ramp. We also use a pet potty system with turf on top of rubber boot mats by the door. The dogs will use those if they have to go before being let out. They contain the urine and they are easy to pull outside and hose off. Would be easier than hosing down your whole shop. There are a lot of commercial ones you can purchase.

    So happy to find your video! We had three dogs for many years and were fortunate to have family and friends sit for us when needed. It's so much better than sending dogs to a boarding kennel. I think your dog hotel is a great solution, and the dogs will be a lot happier staying at home. I have been a Rover sitter now for about four years. The dogs that come stay with us are treated like part of the family and usually only need to be left alone for a couple hours if at all. Many owners found me after not-so-great experiences with boarding and doggy daycare scenarios. We have a new puppy that is just 16 weeks old and I want to do something like this for times when we may need to leave him home alone overnight. We still have family that will help out, but sometimes we are doing stuff together!

When we come in the door they say "Molly, go back to your room". and she trots off. Many times she stays in the owners house. This is a very special place we are so pleased, it was recommended by a pilot we know. We did try having people she knows well come to stay with her, but she refused to eat and they had to put her leash on to get her to go out in the yard for her business. Labs are a very needy breed. As they grow, you move it, making the crate a little bigger.
    Once they're full-size, you no longer need it.

    That's a nice setup; my suggestions would be to paint the front with a gloss latex for easy clean up because a dog's coat will leave residue from their body oil (which attracts dirt) on the corners and around the opening, which is hard to remove from untreated wood. Second, perhaps make a 4 x 6 potty area with 4" sides using fake turf, plywood, a log to pee on and a leak proof barrier (maybe a tarp) this way it's a designated area if they cannot hold it. Even if it's just fake turf on a tarp.

    Your dogs are so cute! I watched for validation. You set them up well. I live in a small town/remote area with few options. My dog is not allowed at the two boarders because she’s anxious and reactive. Her issues also mean she can’t travel with me if I’m visiting family. I’ve hired the local pet sitter who knows my dog well, but she’s usually not available. I ended up installing dog doors and fencing the perimeter so my dog has free access to my/her home and yard; also have an automated feeder and two gravity waterers plus a camera on her sleeping area and cameras in the yard. A friend checks on her 2 or more times per day. I think this works because the only difference when I’m home is that I put the automated feeder away and feed her myself as I always do. Otherwise, it’s her usual life and she’s much less anxious when I travel. We’ve been doing this for several years and it works well for short stints.

    Shooter thinks this is pretty great!😂 Suggestions!!!! Door frames, little awnings, padded stairs so Shooter doesn't slide, that's what he is scared of, 😢 a mini fire hydrant set on the drain, maybe cute little peaked roofs over the food that lift off easily to refill and last but not least doormats with their names on them. Sweet!😊

    I'm fortunate that when out of town, I have a person who watches my bluetick and basset hound. The one variable that neither of your beautiful pups seems to be challenged with is ......................................................vocalizing!! Both of ours has amazing sound makers!! I love the sound, but pretty much everyone around me would only take it a while before someone was called! I love this idea though and I think I can incorporate something similar and go from there! I like the auto feeders etc.

    Good job finding what works for you. While I was hoping this would provide ideas that would work for me, I don't have a garage or a fence and my neighbors are gone more often than I am so we're more likely to be the ones letting their dog out than vice versa. I may eventually add a fence and build a climate controlled space within the fence that my kids would likely try to move into with any pets ;-)

    Such a great set up especially because it’s specific to make your dogs happy.
    It might be good to get to know a pet-sitter or home boarder in the area just in case your neighbor isn’t free.
    Or you’re going away for longer. It’s always good to have a back up just in case you need it.
    Your pups are so cute.
    “Sometimes I pee on random things too.” 😂
    I think Shooter may be marking because he’s anxious. (I guess that’s obvious. 🙂). The scent can get into the concrete- there’s a bunch of things you can use to help break down the scent. Easy to google. I’m not sure which is best.
    Maybe getting him a puppy patch might help, so he’ll pee in the one spot-but maybe as he gets more used to the shop it won’t be an issue.
    Btw, I love that you put the double kennel on casters. It’s so good to be able to easily move it around.

    Great idea! boarding your dogs at home is mentally healthier for your dogs and you don't have to worry about them possibly being exposed to kennel cough. I cracked up laughing when Doser punched you in the nuts with his paw. That's what you get for calling him a "Punk *B*". lol

    Great idea, US boarding facilities have a lot to be desired. We do similar with our cats, although having literally boxes is the advantage of cats. After allowing the dogs free range and to potentially pee all over the shop it’s not fair to call the dog bad when he does it again.

    May I suggest playing some soothing music for them or a TV screen with shows for them to watch. I did that when I left my fur babies alone. Excellent job on the doggy motel. BTW, get some gripping material to put on the ramp do your pup won’t slid down the ramp.
