    The principle "variability" is another name for intermittent reinforcement, a basic principle of human psychology that accounts for addiction to gambling, unhealthy relationships, and so on... It's an interesting talk, but please, let's build products that truly help people and help the world, not hack the most vulnerable part of our brains into "unconscious" behavior.

    To end the debate.
    👉 Gathering information like this is not a bad thing. It's just an information.
    👉 What you do with an information like this is what actually matters.
    👉 If you have the awareness about stuff like this, you are less likely to fall in a bad trap.
    👉 People are already using this knowledge of product design to create something that adds value in millions of lives.
    👉If you are busy accusing giants using this method. Your time could be better spent on researching how to use it for good. Or create an entirely different process that adds value in people's lives.

      It just depends on how you use it. Take an example of youtube, if you like a particular video you get recommendations based on that video which gets you hooked on the platform more than you initially decided to do. This can be a bad and good thing. If you liked a comedy video you will get comedy video suggestions which will waste your time but if you liked a video suppose on coding you will get more videos around that topic which will allow you to learn more of it.
      In short, technology is not bad, it depends on us how we use it. We blame the company because we get fail to unhook ourselves from our phones.

    People don’t just buy products for their moods. People also buy a product because they need it to get their work done. If you need these
    gimmicks, you are creating a product with no intrinsic value and relying on addictive hacks to make them buy/use more. You know, like heroin - that has no nutritional value but people buy because of how it feels. Has tech really come to this? Engineering used to be a respectable profession 🙄.

    if moral drives design the net positive is higher , you can create an expanding positive wave from conditioning

    I disagree about his claim (actually common, also claimed by Tony Robbins) that we use or buy things to make us feel something different. A feeling is just an indicator. It's a biological equivalent of something like a LED light that indicates that your laptop is charging. What a feeling represents is a perceived potential benefit or a loss. It's basically a shortcut to otherwise long and complex decision making process.

    • @Slava-om1sz
      @Slava-om1sz 3 года назад +1

      @@jont2576 Of course people have the tendency to seek distraction to avoid pain, discomfort and anxiety. Humans (and any living organism) function by doing more of the things that are beneficial (and feel good) and less of things that are psychologically and physically damaging (and feel unpleasant). Even if those losses are just 'potential'. Just thinking about a loss triggers feeling bad. So the brain automatically leans towards actions that feel pleasant or pose even greater risk of loss. Both are types of distractions.
      Loneliness is your brain indicating potential loss on your success as a biological being. I strongly recommend collecting knowledge from hands-on scientists like Antonio Domasio (emotions) and Robert Sapolsky (evolutionary biology) BEFORE trying to interpret commercial talks from influencers like Nir Eyal and Tony Robbins.

      All she left out was one word, "I'm really VERY much excited" and then it's proper English, some people forget basic things because they're not used to speaking in front of an audience or they're just not comfortable with it. But of course someone as ignorant as you with the intelligence level of a stick wouldn't understand that, since you choose to judge people based on a small mistake that has nothing to do with their intelligence. Hahaha, it's pretty pathetic, but thanks for the laugh! You're obviously FAR more ignorant than someone who just makes simple lingustic errors. You ***can't even remember to put an apostrophe in the word "can't." HAHA how pathetically ignorant are you? I'll answer that question, VERY.
