Nickel Plate Road #765 has returned to the high iron of the Rock Island District for an encore round of excursions operated in partnership with Metra. The former New York, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad 2-8-4 “Berkshire” hauled over 2,000 passengers over four excursions between Joliet, Illinois, and LaSalle Street Station in Chicago, Illinois for a nostalgia-fueled party in the Windy City. Not often does #765, known in its time on the Nickel Plate Road as one of their premier high speed freight engines, get to stretch her legs and travel at speeds upwards of 60-70mph, just as it used to in its heyday. So climb aboard the Joliet Rocket and enjoy your ride behind one of the United States’ classiest engine’s, in this exciting video brought to you by Blue Comet Productions!
This video was filmed on September 15th and 16th, 2018.
My wife and I just rode all 4 trips on this Joliet Rocket this weekend in the "open air" baggage car. The best non seats in the house by far!! Your video does an excellent job of capturing the experience.
I love how this train MOVES, like it has somewhere to be. It feels satisfying
just an average trip to LaSalle Street Station, only going there in style and jazz, lots and lots of jazz, and steam
Absolutely incredible camera work, audio, and storytelling. Definitely one of the best railroad videos I have seen in a long, long time. Keep up the great work.
This is one of, if not the best coverage of the Joliet Rocket I've ever seen! What kind of equipment do you use?
Gosh dang man that whistle is screaming at 16:54!
OH MY GOD... The opening shot.. And the transitions holy
Suddenly I'm transported to a time where a war is on, and here comes a beautiful steamer to pick up/drop off soldiers who are off to defeat Hitler. Railroads being absolutely critical in the war effort.

Imagine standing on the platform in the closing shot. You just got off work to catch the train home and out of the darkness a beast of power, steam and smoke comes charging from the darkness towards you. Then it rockets past you blowing on the whistle leaving you in its wake. That's the beauty of the steam locomotive.
This is outstanding! It was cool to watch. I had fun riding too. I loved the high speeds and run bys. This is a masterpiece.
Cheers!

So you ARE still making videos! Nicely done
Central Penn Rail Productions what do you MEAN “still making videos”?? I’ve BEEN 😝
Yeah yeah, I know, but it seems like forever since 765 was in the Lehigh Valley.
Superb video. I rode both days and this compilation perfectly captures the "experience" of chasing, vestibuling, and the events at LaSalle St station. Well done!
If only I lived near there, then I would have bought tickets :c
The 765 was doing speeds of about 70 mph here.
What equipment do you use for these videos? The quality is PHENOMENAL!!!
See that he "stretches" the train when stopping at the station.
He's real master.
Rode the Saturday morning train, last year too. Fantastic time! Will definitely do again
Very well done video!! One of the most enjoyable I've seen of 765. Superb camera and audio work!!!
Long Live Steam Locomotives
Awesome video!! We rode the 3:30 trip on Saturday. They put on a great show!!
Fantastic job dude! This was totally worth the wait! Also what do you use to film and what do you use for editing?
Awesome video! Really wished I could've been there. Also loved the night shots you had near the end of the video.
great video, look at the 17 minute mark as the sun rising the 765 rolling through the depot.
There's me on the flat car at 4:18! haha!
Oh cool! If only I could wave at u
Great documentation of your experience. Now I need my own. I love and simultaneously hate vids like this, because on the one hand I appreciate the attention to detail and the obvious care that went into making it...but I also need the experience for myself. Need to ride this sucker from Station to station and I can't afford it and damn you for making me want it so much. :-P

If only Johnny Cash was alive and rode this train he’d be like: come along and ride this nickel plate train
Great video. Thanks so much!
Aw dang. We actually traveled on the Milwaukee District Line
Very nice video!
Really awesome video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
In some of the shots. While you were filming from the car. You could see some of the cinders fly in front of the camera
geeze man,,, can you back off from the train just a little bit ?? it isn't necessary
to be able to count the rivets in the boiler as the locomotive passes by
it would be nice to see the entire machine as it passes
Yeah but where’s the thrill in that?
14:40 I'm taking a screen shot of this and possibly make it my banner
Hey I was the kid in black in the frank Thompson in the video I lost my goggles at one point and I’m trying to find a video of it happening. Do you happen to have any extra footage of the ride. It would of happened before the 3:00 mark
I remember exactly when it happened. It was when we were about to round the curve after Tinley Park
Blue Comet Productions wait you saw the glasses fly off? Do you have footage?
I don’t, however I do remember when exactly it happened
Blue Comet Productions I had borrowed those glasses so when they flew off my friends said I had a blank “oh crap” look on my face
Pure awesomeness!!!
What if 1551 from the Age of Steam Roundhouse can pull the Varsity and Joliet Rocket excursions like 765 did? And what if 1551 can visit the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for the Steam In The Valley excursions too? It'll be awesome to see that happen after the ban on excursions gets lifted.
Def my proudest fap.
Excellent!
