    fantastic design and manufacrute

    On the X axis you used a ballscrew > coupler > rod to be able to use a wider belt (I assume). Did this contraption cause you any alignment issues? As in having to align 4 bearings? (float, fixed, and 2 rod bearings). I hope you'll answer, I'm having issue with a short motor shaft and I'm thinking of doing something similar. Danke!

      the coupler are extensions. we had smaller 3nm motors on the axis. now with 12nm and timing belt ratio 1/2. no problems at all axis with it. With 2 simple float bearings.

    Why that choice of gearing on the steppers? Are high traverse speeds so important that you sacrificed so much torque and rigidity?
    Very nice epoxy granite mill by the way. I'm just surprised at your gearing choice! 👍🙂

    Hello men that motor you recomend me use it like a spindle?

    • @3DMeister

      I use a 2.2kw water-cooled spindle, 24000 rpm . for wood and aluminium; www.ebay.de/itm/251881544467

    With closed loop stepper why buy servos is there any benifit?

    • @3DMeister
      @3DMeister  4 года назад

      it was a price benefit 2 years ago when we bought them. Today, i am not so sure any more. A servo motor should be better.

      closed loop Stepper if you want to have something which works out of the box and dont need absolute speed and acceleration

    Have you tried cutting steel with this set up? Would you recommend scaling up to a nema 52 at 50 Nm for cutting steel, or is it more about the rigidity of the table and the ball screws when you get to 12 Nm steppers? All of your replies and this video are very informative, thank you

    • @3DMeister
      @3DMeister  3 года назад

      Super, Thank you. Not Jet. But with the first setup (3Nm Stepper). The limit was always and only the 2.2kw Spindle. I guess, if i had much more torque and power(5+ or 10+ kw - i don't know ) on the spindle, this could be an issue with heavier cuts.
      The ball screws can push or pull 150kg. The more powerful CLStepper-setup is only to speed up the machine, and we needed something more safe than simple stepper motors. It maybe just a little more Pushpullpower on the table but we can drive almost 3 times the speed with this setup.

      @@3DMeister can you just take lighter passes to get around the limitations of the spindle power output, like if you were to cut steel or titanium with this?

    • @3DMeister
      @3DMeister  3 года назад

      @@jacobbrutonbrauer7851 Yes ! just less material per time and more/smaller cuts so less tool life. Its a balance act, the spindle is very weak under 3000 rpm but steel is better cut slowly and heavy. We did high speed cutting for finishing our timing belt wheel-cut-outs.It worked. Why a timming belt? The motor is not strong enough tô direct drive?

    • @3DMeister
      @3DMeister  3 года назад

      Yes StepperMotors are Not fast enough and with the best performance at about 600 rpm and power dropping fast at higher rpm. We have 5mm inclination per round on the screws; with the old direct steppers (3NM) we had 3000mm/min speed, But we can now reach almost 9000mm/min with 12NM (CL) Stepper motors.

      @@3DMeister if a use hybrid stepper (servo) maybe i can get more torque and speed without belt?

    • @3DMeister
      @3DMeister  3 года назад

      @@gustavotavares5233 Yes, servos can be much faster without losing much torque at high rpm. Not like our Closed Loop Stepper. I don't know about hybrid stepper but I think they are closed loop stepper? Just safer than only stepper m.

      Everything works fine .. what do you don't like?
      Speed from 3m/min to 8m/min.
      Accuracy is still fine for my application.
