Now that was different! That turned out really well in the instant pot! Now you got me wanting some chocolate cake! I like that silicone trivet. Good cook Richard!
I made this last night to take to church this morning for our monthly pot luck. I was a little bit nervous, given I have never made cake in my (other brand) pressure cooker before and I thought the batter seemed more like pudding than cake batter. But I iced, plated, and contributed it to the meal. Well, can you say, success? I left with an empty plate and I didn't even get a piece. (I had taste tested a crumb.) It got so many compliments and when I told people I made it it a pressure cooker they were surprised and curious. If you're on the fence, just give it a try.
Wow this turned out amazing! We used a round Pyrex dish with something called cake goop to prevent sticking. It popped right out of the dish and was beautiful! we ate ours with no frosting. yum! 🎉
New here, I made a very good cake pouring my cake dough directly in my instant pot, now I see that every recipe it's well behaved and clean except mine😂
Richard, looks very good, but I have that type2 diabetes, but I might sneak a piece, lol , I wonde4r if one of those chocolate lava cakes could be made in that , with the hot liquid chocolate running out when you cut into the cake for a slice
Hi Laura. You can forget all those other preset buttons on the pot. You only need to know 3 buttons....All you need to know with cooking anything is the saute, heat settings, time buttons and the pressure cook buttons. I think you may have not seen the written recipe and directions that is in the video description for this video. To get there click the "more" option below the video and that info will drop down. To do the cake you use the pressure cook function. If you can't find the written recipe and directions section let me know and I'll walk you through it. Thanks for watching.
In case you can't get to that info, here is the info for this recipe....Shopping List: 3/4 cup all purpose flour 3/4 cup cocoa 1/2 cup sugar 3/4 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 tsp. kosher salt (1/2 tsp. if using table salt) 1/2 cup melted butter 1/2 cup milk 3 eggs 2 cups water Chocolate icing 6 inch cake pan Parchment paper Directions: In a bowl add the dry ingredients and mix. Add the melted butter, milk and eggs. Mix well. Line a 6 inch cake pan with parchment paper and pour cake batter in it. Pour the water into the Instant Pot. Place the trivet in the Instant pot and place cake pan on top. Add the lid. Set the pressure switch to "seal". Press "pressure cook". Use the + - buttons to 30 minutes cook time. Press start. IMPORTANT! When done, allow the Instant Pot to do a natural release of the the pressure (DO NOT DO A QUICK RELEASE FOR THIS RECIPE. DOING A QUICK RELEASE MAY RESULT IN A FLAT CAKE) Wait until all the remaining pressure has been released and the pressure pin on top of the lid drops. DO NOT REMOVE THE LID UNTIL THE PIN DROPS! A NATURAL RELEASE COULD TAKE 5 MINUTES OR UP TO 30 MINUTES. When the pressure has been released and the pin has dropped, remove the lid and remove cake from Instant Pot and lift cake out using the edges of the parchment paper. Let cake cool 20 minutes. Ice cake and enjoy!
In the voice of Homer Simpson, “Choooooocolaaaaaaate!!!” 🤣🍰 Richard, is that a slit in the top, as a check to see if it was done? Either way, no prob. Frosting works! Great job. Thank you.
It may have been lighting that makes it look like a slit. I checked when it was done looking for cracks. Didn’t see any. I checked fineness with a toothpick. Thanks for watching.
@@RICHARDINTHEKITCHEN Yes, maybe it was the lighting. I do usually check my cakes, but have never made a cake in the IP. I didn’t know if it was still recommended to check doneness after using it. I so need to try this! Have a great day & weekend, sir.
Your pot chocolate cake video is a great resource for home cooks who want to improve their skills in the kitchen. I appreciate the way you break down each step of the recipe. Hope would like to visit my new recipe too...👍🙏
I made box cake and it was flat 😭 now I know it’s because I did quick release. Thank you so much!

This was so good. Is it possible to make cupcakes in instant pot too? Or bread?
Good to hear. Yes you can make cup cakes and bread in it. I don't have any recipes for it though. There are recipes out there. Thanks for watching.

Do you think I could stack up 2 sandwich cake tins in my 8 quart Instant Pot? Thanks.
Yes you can! I've never done it, but I've seen others do it. Thanks for watching.
@@RICHARDINTHEKITCHEN Thanks for such a quick reply! 🌸
