    It's so rare for a player as skilled and nuanced as Isbell to be so good at talking about the way he approaches his sound. So many players of his caliber just go by feel and intuition and let their techs worry about the details. I fully believe that he is among the most intentional performers working today (that includes his lyrics and melodies) and I respect the hell out of that.

      There is a ton of integrity in his recordings. He writes them a certain way and then just puts them to tape. Especially on Southeastern, there are songs there where I'm certain he didn't even put compression on his vocals.

    Jason demonstrates an amazing level of maturity and professionalism when he talks about keeping stage volume low so that the FOH engineer can have as much control as possible. I mean, he's a modern day guitar god. He could choose to be a real diva if he wanted, but instead he makes it easier for his team to create the best possible experience for his audience. What a gem.

    Can't believe I only just stumbled across this rig rundown. I love what a gearhead Jason is. And much as I have always loved his songwriting, singing, and playing, I think his response to the question of whether he tries to take it easy on the Red Eye just makes me love him even more. Guitars are meant to be played and enjoyed, not babied.

    At the time of posting this comment, 11 people dislike a video that goes through some of the gnarliest vintage guitars you will ever see, including what could be the most famous Les Paul burst that’s currently in circulation. Every piece of aforementioned gear is discussed thoroughly by guys that are solid musicians and actually know their shit. I guess I will just never understand how people like the 11 folks that disliked this video exist on this planet. You’d think a condition so serious it affects taste that badly would also be fatal, at least it should be. Rock on Jason and PG 🤘🏼

    • @NatePieper
      @NatePieper 4 года назад

      I loved this as well, but one thing that wasn't great was the interviewer would NOT stop interrupting Jason, and most of what he was saying wasn't even contributing to the conversation. He just could not seem to shut the hell up and let Jason talk. This would've been perfect to me if that didn't happen, but overall this really was a legendary rundown.

  • @grilledspaghetti
    @grilledspaghetti Год назад +1

    I told my wife at his concert in Köln that he is the prime example of a person that uses each guitar to get it's specific tone. If he pulls out a tele after playing his strat you are going to hear a tele vs strat sound. He doesn't change anything to make them sound alike. And that Red Eye sounds awesome.

    I've watched these videos for a couple of years now and there are few artists that come out to talk about their guitars, amps, pedals, etc. Jason Isbell is the real deal: very approachable, honest, down to earth. Plus I love his music. He's on par with Peter Frampton and Steve Stevens.

    FYI: 6x10 bass cabs are typically ported, 8x10’s are usually sealed, hence the “bigger low end” Jimbo was talking about. It’s not the cab shape, it’s the ports that make the difference. Not 100% sure about this specific Ashdown model, but I’d bet money that’s the case.

    Ed's guitar got my attention in the preview. Filter'Trons were out months before Gibson's. Ray Butt's built those at Chet's request because the Dyna's magnets were causing intonation issues. Those early Filters are the best on the planet. Pete Townshend on Who's Next and Quad. Every AC/DC lick, Neil's Ohio and Alabama, love Jet Firebirds!
