We had the same cdi issue with my mates bike. Not long after doing some tests the 2nd one went. After a bit research i found out the cdi from the xlr 650 (i think) was a direct fit. He ordered 2 new aftermarket ones from hi level i think and job was a good un! Im currently restoring an mc16 as well just now and iv got to say, very impressed with the job you done on your from discs! 👍🏻
My MC16 would start on both cylinders first kick, and rev perfect on the stand. On the road a different story, misfiring, cylinders in and out, really bad. I cut the backs off the CDI's looking for dry joints, tried everything. Bought two new units, Lixianda or some such name. Hey presto it worked for about 2 weeks, then failed again. I finished up buying Ignitech from Czech Republic, now it works on both reliably. I recommend those people, of course its not original. I care more it works. Carburetors yet another nightmare. Much better now, after so much time. I feel they must have been on and off 1000 times!
Just came accross this video.same as my own 1 cyclinder.i cut the back off one cdi after swapping them to check it was a dodgy cdi.i resoldered every joint in it.put it back in and I it's running on both cyclinders again.after lying in a container for years.
About your 1 cilinder issue. I have an MC16 myself. Drove it al lot of years an nog it is also under a technical restauration. The 1 cilinder problem is maybe coused by the choke, that works on only 1 cilinder. Or, the oillevel sensor in the 2stoke oiltank. The sensor loses magnetism and gives a low-oillevel signal tot the CDI, that cuts te ignition on 1 cilinder. At first above 6000rpm but it accurs more often during time.
A video like this deserves 1 million + views
