I dont really believe/trust all of these stories, like the trucker calling the cops, but that doesnt mean they aren't entertaining. Ed definitely has an interesting life and is a great story teller, but the best story tellers never only stick to reality.
Drive your car home over 1000 miles and assume all liability, yeah, nah, that's why these people don't do it. Just cause they have money doesn't mean they want to throw it out the window.
I remember seeing on here a story how 3 farrari's transmissions would go out in a day on the track. So it makes me wonder would they last on a 1000 mile road trip.
Ive been in transport ( heavy long distance) for decades in Australia. Even with dangerous goods, it was always amazing how customers and companies would hire anyone if it was cheaper. Always it ends in tears. In the end the damage and delays always bite the customers in the backside, but they never learn.
I once worked at CarMax for their inventory department. A trucker came in sweating head to toe. The entire time he didn't want to speak and I asked him if he was alright. He stuttered a lot and rarely said anything. He handed me the car title and I went outside to his truck to check the car. When I saw the car it was completely destroyed. I asked what happened and he stuttered a lot while saying it fell off his truck.
Ed, I really appreciate this video. You have made my decision for me... no trucks to bring the car home. A road trip sounded fun before but now it also sounds like a must-do!
I feel the same way with my hoodie I just sent off to be cut Apart and sewed back together with a zipper in the middle about the same price range is a an Aventador
I have literally watched 20 videos of Vinwiki back to back in a day ! Finally we get behind the scenes of supercar ownership and in what better way than narration of the events. Beautiful concept ! Absolutely love it
Lmao. I dislike the intros bcuz it usually doesn't give enough context and seems like a throwaway. I missed today's as I scrambled to turn on my speakers, so I went back to watch it... best part of the whole vid was that line from Ed.
Great video! I picked up my gated 2005 Gallardo in Fairfax, VA and drove it home 750 miles to Chicago. Only way to do it! They are meant to be enjoyed =)
Life is good. I certainly did not expect to spend some much of this chapter of my life making internet videos but I am enjoying it and I am glad they are being well received.
I paid $750 for an emergency tow on my Aventador for 15 miles once. These guys were so meticulously careful it took like two hours to load it on the bed.
Like the 4th time I’ve watched this in a year. Ed is the 2nd best story teller on the interwebs. Next to Mr. Pitts, of course. I truly believe that Ed was an energetic evangelist in a previous life and that he was so successful he was rewarded by God with this, what it’s really his second life-one that most of us would lie, cheat, steal and kill to have ourselves. Love the time you take to entertain us on a daily basis Mr. Bolian!! You da man!
As a trucker, I'm not the least bit surprised. Half my industry has no business in anything bigger than a golf cart. I've always wanted to try my hand at exotic car hauling, but you just convinced me to stay in food service.
Love the stories! Moving my cars have always been a pain. Had to ship a car from Orlando to Salt Lake and it took them a few days longer than they predicted and I had to raise hell about that. Recently I bought an R32 GTR I had imported from Japan into Washington State and part of the purchase was shipping to my home in Los Angeles was included in the price. I couldn't go drive it home due to California refusing to register it until I have modifications for CARB. So the driver shows up (on time) but says I owe 400 dollars in delivery fees. After more hell was raised I paid it and called the company I bought it from who were upset as this guy apparently pulled that once before. Since then I know they aren't with those guys and the seller reimbursed me. So yeah, car shippers are the most difficult group of people I have had to deal with.
Driving up to Seattle this weekend from Boise to pick up a car I've wanted for 20 years. It's not an exotic or anything but to me it's a lifelong dream.
What was the success rate of getting repairs paid by the trucking companies/contractors Ed? Some of those guys sounded like their entire rigs cost 1/3 of the price of these cars.
Success rate at getting repairs over $500 paid within 90 days - 0% Success rate at getting over 50% of the repair cost reimbursed within 1 year, maybe 25% It's awesome.
From the deepest part of my soul, I'm sorry you had to deal with such unprofessional drivers. We are not all the same. Sincerely, a real professional truck driver.
I will never get tired of hearing Ed's stories. My fiancé comes in my room everyday and asks "You're watching him again"!? She can tell by his voice lol. Your stories are way too amazing Ed. You are the man!
Thanks for the story Ed. I had shipped a R8 V10+ (little junior supercar right?) and luckily had a good experience. Also had to ship a lesser vehicle back to them as a trade. We both purchased them sight unseen. Seeing your experiences will make me really think about how to conduct myself when I'm ready to upgrade.
Oh man... why not just hire a shipping container, load and secure the car yourself. Get a container truck to pick it up and Express post the car and container keys seperately. The buyer drives the car out of the container after it’s been unloaded and you arrange for the container to be picked up once they have done so. Might be a bit more expensive but surely it’s worth it for these types of cars
🗣MCFLY 🗣MCFLY ✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼 🗣 HELLO is there anybody in there MCFLY????? Shipping isn't a good option for moving cars as all shipping ports are on the coastlines around the outside of America so they can't get anywhere close to 98% of the states! which is why shipping is mostly used for country to country not state to state, driving from the middle of America to the nearest coastline port to get your car can be as long a drive as the actual transport would have been in the first place so defeats the purpose, and as for the normal port trucks delivering the container to you how you going to get a crane to get the container off??? Because that's how it would have to work to remain flat! The smaller trucks with no trailer just tip the container up at a very steep angle and harshly slide the container off the back onto the ground! (No doubt Sending the car smashing into the container doors) and then it's still getting delivered by a truck! But more dangerously because it has to be crane lifted onto a ship! transported at sea! Crane lifted from a ship onto a truck! Travel to destination then be crane lifted from truck again! The percentage of an accident is WAY higher! And WAY more expensive! Don't you think these guys have thought about this (bright idea) at some point already MCFLY???
Why is this channel so interesting to me? I've never watched more videos on a single channel than this one and I don't know why. I love it though, this guy tells stories like Tolkien writes four books. Edit: Typing out my comment I realized why this channel is so good. He tells stories very well. Thanks, bye.
My buddy had a (then) new 84 300zx, He had a break down; called for a tow with a flat bed. A hook tow truck shows up instead. At the angle he towed it at he ground the mufflers off the car.
rmp5s some people want to keep the milage as low as possible, buy trust me, I agree with you all the way. That should be the only way to ship and transport a car 😂
I drop 350k on a car, best believe in a beat the holy hell outta that thing. If I got that kinda bread, I don't give a rats ass about resell calue, and give even less of a damn about a warranty. You seen them crazy 4 digit hp lam is from Texas? I'd be one of those idiots. In a heartbeat.
I moved from Virginia to California and I used Plycar. They did a awesome job. Now I’m not rich, nor was I transporting an exotic car. I own a 2015 Lexus Gsf 350 and they treated my simple car as they would a six figure exotic. I was truly happen and impressed.
I just love listening to Ed tell these crazy stories lol. besides the stories being funny/crazy, just the way he tells them makes them that much better lol.
So basically the moral of the story is buy a nice 24 ft or so enclosed trailer or pick up the car yourself, got it. I took a train once to go pick up a car it was nice to get away and I’d never been on a train either. Next time I’m buying the business class seat though.
It really sounds like buyers just need to pay the money to have it done right when you're spending multiple hundred thousands of dollars on a vehicle and then you keep skate on the delivery and get what you pay for
It is partially about a Ferrari. I had the title as "How hard is it to ship an exotic car across the country" and decided to sub in the Ferrari because it was shorter and got the same point across.
I thought id like to buy and sell sports and luxury cars for a living but after this video i dont know i can do that i mean im a home painter and i focuson giving the customer the absolute best product i can if someone cant make that happen for me ill be supremely angry
If you let a exotic climb in anything else than a proper enclosed car hauler trailer I'd say it's the customer's fault for the final results. There are many things that can go wrong down the road, and greed, and stupidity, but in that moment when you let some super low exotic climb an absurde angle it's your fault.
road tripping your brand new car is the best thing. my friend got a brand new Ferrari 458 Italia (back when that was newer) and invited me to come along with him, and he arranged pickup from Northern VA/DC area where was a dealership for exotics. and the trip was so much fun, the only worry is because such a nice car that was new to him he was more timid about rougher roads..well ended up having 4 hour longer car ride because of that but it was fun. then got his GT-R Nismo Edition well i guess Nissan was smarter about that because wasn't too low to the ground and like loading a Maxima onto a truck.. because dealership was willing to offer free delivery of it..
So what you're saying is, there's a market opportunity for exotic car transportation, operated with the utmost integrity, using specialized equipment, and higher than usual insurance limits?
IF YOU HAVE AND ARE WILLING to spend $500K for equipment, and pay $3000 monthly insurance, to be cheaped out by hungry dealers, yes by my guest. trust me there are a whole lot of trucking companies with very expensive specialized equipment, but this buttholes of dealer they only wanna make money for them self. They make $50K-$80K profit and won't pay an extra $1500 for proper transport. That's why after 4 years in carhauling I said : enough.
I don't often use the word cringe but the way these idiots were treating these cars made me cringe multiple times. I would definitely follow Ed's advice to just road trip the car back home.
U guys should just take everyone out and keep Ed he's amazing I could have a beer with this guy and just listen to him on a Sunday afternoon at a pool party
Old Skool Americans, the high end dealers here use a low bed that folds down on the ground, you drive the car up and secure it, then it lifts it all up on the truck. Easy and safe.
Car shipping is the ultimate example of "you get what you pay for". If you don't use pros like Reliable Carriers and Interstate, your vehicle is in serious jeopardy.
I don't get it. He's complaining that the guys that ship cars for 80cents/mile are not qualified for the job and he doesn't like that. At the same time he says proper shipping would be availlable for double the cost but he wouldn't do it. If you want to be cheap and save every possible penny on a transaction don't expect professionals to take care of it, it's easy like that. The customers who order a car for more than $100k are able to pay for better service, so talk to your customer and tell him he has two options, a cheap one where a hillbilly that doesn't care about anything does the shipping or a moderatelly more expensive sollution where professionals handle the job. I guess most customers would be happy to use the second offer, and the ones that took the first one should be prepared that they get what they ordered.
Lexor888 But customers won't pay for better service, they expect it, but won't pay for it. Trucking is an industry where undercutting is so absurdly commonplace. Here in Australia we have what's called a 457 visa. It is intended for employers to be able to hire a foreigner (usually Indian or Chinese because they'll accept the lowest wages) when there are too few qualified locals. Of course, this gets abused in the name of cost cutting, so you get these guys that speak little to no english and their previous driving experience is probably a hatchback in New Delhi. No one cares about service or quality in shipping, They just want what they've bought quickly and cheaply.
As Matt Johns just posted, these people are too damned cheap to do it right and hire a company that is actually profesional. These are likely the kind of people who would walk away or maybe even sue if the dealer would explain in full detail and with pictures that a more expensive, yet competent and fully insured hauler is the only way they will ship the car.
He's a salesman, just sell it to the customer. Give them the hard facts, "sir we only ship with this company because . They can still choose to hire a different company on their own. You won't hand over your supercar for inspection to a guy that does some repairs for his friends in his own garage, even though it's way cheaper than the Ferrari inspection. Also you won't by spare parts from china.
Lexor888 yes, but it seems that such a relationship (where the dealership had a preferred best option shipper) didn’t exist...if I understand Ed frequently had to cut business ties with companies due to a catastrophe
I flew from Louisville KY to Daytona FL to buy a 6 speed S60r. My buddy and I went in March to pick it up. It snowed back home, so we spent a week in Panama city beach, then drove home. great trips with great friends. That's why I love cars.
This is as informative as it is funny. Having dealt with multiple shipping companies over the years my customers and I have been lucky to not have any stories like these. I always take the road trip option. I offered and flew out to pick up a customer car and drove it back because it would be a saver bet than trucking it through two states in the winter.
Yeeeeeeppppp I just bought my first sports car (by that I mean high output coupe) and I've been trying to get it shipped. The first broker was a scammer, the second made me sign a contract 6 days out then on the day of pickup called and said the delivery wouldn't happen but I was still being charged, and the third broker won't even touch it until the second broker releases it from contract (which they won't for another 8 days). The worst part is, now broker 2 is trying to get about $1.10 per mile, which is 90% more than what we agreed upon, and is blaming it on being the busy season. Now, my car has been sitting for 8 days since I paid for it in full (8 states away) and I'm completely fucked, the dealer is fucked, and I have to fly halfway across the country to drive the damn thing back myself, which throws a serious wrench in my plans. I even tried getting into central dispatch and setting it up myself, but of course they figured out that I'm not a dealer and kicked me off. And of course, if I can even get a driver for the car, I will have to take a goddamn shotgun to go pick it up because I have NO clue on what kind of trucker I'm gonna get driving my car home... which there are only 243 of in the entire world so IF (when) he breaks it, there will be no hope of repairing it, or replacing it, as of those 243, maybe 50 are left...
Omg😂😂 "Did Ed just threaten to kill a truck driver? Well that wouldn't be the least believable thing I've heard today." I live Ed's stories
I "live" his stories too.
I really "live" his videos too! But for real, I enjoy Ed's videos.

There are more people freaking out over the title than the actual story!!!... Which is are good ones BTW..thanks for the entertainment
Man I absolutely love your videos, I watch them every single day at work and they are always so good this is probably one of my favorites.
I thought id like to buy and sell sports and luxury cars for a living but after this video i dont know i can do that i mean im a home painter and i focuson giving the customer the absolute best product i can if someone cant make that happen for me ill be supremely angry
Yea, and the fact that you can barely form a proper sentence means that clients would not exactly refer you to others....
@@Mr.Oblivian His post simply lacks punctuation and has spelling errors which don't exist while actually speaking.
I THINK I CAN GET IT ON BACKWARDS. I AM CRYING. YOU ROCK ED
If you let a exotic climb in anything else than a proper enclosed car hauler trailer I'd say it's the customer's fault for the final results. There are many things that can go wrong down the road, and greed, and stupidity, but in that moment when you let some super low exotic climb an absurde angle it's your fault.
Bolian back at it again with another solid story. Love this guy. 🔥
There’s is no worse feeling then having a high end car in transport. I’ve damn near had to put myself on nerve meds for these occasions. 😂
road tripping your brand new car is the best thing. my friend got a brand new Ferrari 458 Italia (back when that was newer) and invited me to come along with him, and he arranged pickup from Northern VA/DC area where was a dealership for exotics. and the trip was so much fun, the only worry is because such a nice car that was new to him he was more timid about rougher roads..well ended up having 4 hour longer car ride because of that but it was fun.
then got his GT-R Nismo Edition well i guess Nissan was smarter about that because wasn't too low to the ground and like loading a Maxima onto a truck.. because dealership was willing to offer free delivery of it..
This guy ed definitely has the best stories, I honestly don’t watch if it’s not him
I could listen to ed for hours I want to meet him one day. And I don’t live too far...
Last time I was this early, the M3 hadn't even been deck-l-ed yet.
Clint Gliford no, it was still a street car. you gotta go further back in the video. You're slipping.
Yawn
I love Ed, he is so honest.
"Ed did you just threaten to kill a truck driver?"
"Well, the cops just called."
Sick reference, bro
I completely agree with this guy. I waited a month and half for my exotic. Couldn't believe the BS I had to hear and deal with before my car arrived.
Feel your pain Ed, i hated shipping cars when i was in the biz. Shipping them over seas from texas was the worse
I don't often use the word cringe but the way these idiots were treating these cars made me cringe multiple times. I would definitely follow Ed's advice to just road trip the car back home.
As someone who intends to start a transport service at some point, hearing Ed and Feretti complain about crappy transporters is encouraging lol
Yay, junior ACT day this is something I can look forward too
Good luck with your test.
Yes. Good luck on your test. Have a great day.
Yet another great story from our favourite story teller, Ed!
Car shipping is the ultimate example of "you get what you pay for". If you don't use pros like Reliable Carriers and Interstate, your vehicle is in serious jeopardy.
Used Interstate. Horrible experience. Incredibly horrible. Car damaged upon delivery, and late.
i'm a simple man, I see Ed on VINwiki, I like the video.
Lexor888 I'm interested in getting involved in the industry, just commenting here to be notified if you get a response

But customers won't pay for better service, they expect it, but won't pay for it.
Great vid
This channels stories are almost always fantastic.
The luxury car world is like some insane alternate universe if this channel is anything to go by.
