Never heard of such a thing until I watched this. So, I just called the body shop who fixed up my BMW and asked the manager if he kew anything about diminished value. Without missing a beat, "Sir, have you ever heard of a youtube channel called vinwiki?"
Apparently the rules in GA are somewhat different than IL- I would only have a diminished value claim against a third party or an uninsured motorist. I hit a deer. While he was decidedly uninsured, he is now dead, and I have to wait for his estate to clear probate.

Youd be surprised, watching Ed's videos gave me just enough knowledge about driving Ferraris, Lambos, and Maserati's to get my foot in the door at the local Alfa Romeo/Maserati dealership. Idk if there is necessarily a correlation between the two, but at my interview they were asking trivia type questions about how to start Lamborghinis, How to properly load Ferraris, and stuff like that which I definitely learned from Ed's videos, but I also had the right credentials as well as I was a Jaguar tech for 2 years and a BMW tech for a year and a half. Anyways I'm happy to say I'm about to hit my 1 year mark as an Alfa Romeo technician and I probably wouldn't be today if it had not been for Ed and the boys to show how working in luxury car dealerships can be quite fun, not to mention all the little things I picked up on in these VinWiki videos! Big thanks to the guys @VINwiki

I tried taking a quick exit after a state trooper got me doing 90 in an 80 MPH zone cut through a grassy median to chase me down lol. I had my Radar Detector so I knew exactly what was happening before I even saw him cut through the median so I was like lets see if I can get away... I was also in the middle of no where Montana and he caught up to me before I made it to the stop sign at the off ramp lol. He also questioned where I was going and I told him and he gave me this look like 'Why are you on the off ramp then?' lol, 'I plead the 5th'.
Does it count as running from, if you have to slow down to give them a chance? I imagine nonchalantly parking my sport bike to let the heat die down was a little easier than getting a Ferrari to blend in🙂

I always wondered about that!! This is why I so rarely drive my '14 370Z Roadster. It was about 50 grand when new and is still essentially new so its actually retained a fair amount of value. It only has ~10,000 miles on it (I got it "used" with 500 miles on it almost two years ago) and if it got clipped by someone, its value would take a big hit even if the insurance fixed it. I always just thought it was a "tough luck, buttercup" scenario. Going to look into this further.

As an insurance adjuster I found this story to be most compelling. I have been on the other side of the diminished value claim where I am explaining to people that they can hire that third party appraiser in order to dispute our offer. Sadly not every one can afford the cost to do this, but for those that can it generally works out in the consumers favor.
Ive worked in insurance for 3 years now with two different companies and not once have we paid out on a diminished value claim.
@@toddsmith1731 interesting. I have paid several in 13 years, but far less now that I only handle lawsuits. They tend to be a claim that people are just not aware they can make.
@@Dlnqntt I've the car is a Ferrari, Lambo, Rolls, etc there may be a case to make but for 99% of common vehicles that don't cost over 200k, those claims are going to get denied almost 100% of the time.
I gotta say: that Ferrari, in that color combo, is just jaw-dropping. I don’t know why, but I love it.

Intelligent explanation of diminished value that is presented in a clear manner that allows the topic to be understood. This speaker is simply superb in expressing thoughts in such a manner that the audience does not feel "talked down" to plus he does not waste our time with unnecessary words, ideas, expressions that so often ruin RUclips offerings. He should be marketing his communications skills as well as automotive skills.
One note here--Uninsured and Underinsured coverage on most car insurance policies covers the injury or death of the not at fault driver and does not apply to coverage for repairing or replacement the car itself. Collision coverage covers your car in the event that the at fault driver has no insurance or property damage coverage inadequate for the necessary repair or replacement.
That's incorrect. UMPD is for damage to your vehicle. UMBI is for injury. You can have uninsured/underinsured for both injury and damages to your vehicle. Many states to not allow the injury aspect without the property. Collision will cover if you do not have UMPD or if the amount of damages to your vehicle exceeds the UMPD limits.

It's rather incredible to hear how much the audio quality has improved over the years.
Traffic engineer here, I have the same problem but from the opposite perspective. I try and figure out what exactly happened during crashes at intersections to try and improve them and the police crash reports are always missing vital information. A supercar crash wouldn't really factor into our decision because we don't design for rare events, only systemic ones. Love the videos.
I had no idea things worked like this. I can't imagine getting a $50k check for crashing my car.

It also depends on the state. NY doesnt recognize diminished value and therefore insurance companies dont pay out on them.

fourseasonsandles---- I live in NY also and while what you say may be true, when your car is damaged, a person is not negotiating with the state, they are negotiating with a insurance company, And with insurance companies you have the option to sue them for a fair settlement . Any small claims court judge can see the logic of diminished value, now with carfax type services available to all.

My grandfather had a new Dino and drive it from Atlanta to Florida and then on the way back a blacked out el Camino was in the right lane right under the speed limit so he goes around them. Then the car rolls down its window pulls down a sign saying "state police pullover" he got a ticket for about 3 mph.
Jimmy Grant I honestly wouldn't have stopped. I would have kept going and called my local police department to make sure that wasn't a creep trying to kidnap me or some shit. Still pretty crazy way to pull someone over nonetheless.

This has to be one of the most practical, real world informational car videos I have seen, and not just for high dollar exotics. The diminished value is the same principle for a Honda, Its just worth less now, and that's a fact a insurance adjustor can not dispute.

My wife and I bought a Toyota Tundra in 2014 and 2 weeks after owning it, she was backing out of a parking space at the same time another driver was backing out behind her. the other driver caught the side of her Camry on the trailer hitch of our Tundra and ripped a hole down the side of the Camry like a can opener. Thankfully, there wasn't a scratch on our Tundra as the truck never actually made contact with the Camry. However, we were shocked a couple of years later when we went to trade it in and the dealer dropped $8,000 off our value because, according to carfax, the vehicle was in a rear collision accident. I was furious and called carfax to demand a correction as there was NO DAMAGE and NO CLAIM on our side, so it shouldn't have been reported. Carfax can definitely help when buying a car, but there are de3finetly some flaws in their system!

The 612 is my favorite modern Ferrari (to come out after the F40)... There's a Rubino Micalizzato one for sale in Calgary and it's just gorgeous. Too bad it's not a stick.

I deal with subrogation claims and I deal with this stuff everyday! I deal with every state and know all the laws. We go after loss of use, diminished value and loss of revenue for rental cars

Man, didn't I see this a day late and a dollar short. Just traded my Audi which had gotten rear ended. From appearances alone, the car was in perfect order. But it had been repaired, thus it could not be certified by Audi which cost me bucks. Thanks for the info. In the event the new Audi gets hit I'll certainly be making inquiries about diminished value. You can always count on insurance companies to look to get over on you no matter what.
