It's called "Interceptor". Why should being unable to be a capital ship killer be a negative? According to this logic a real-world vehicle like the B-17 should be criticized for not being as nimble as a Spitfire.
That is very true. If we look at WWII naval combat, carriers deployed dedicated bomber craft for the anti-ship role such as the TBF Avenger, SBD Dauntless, B5N Kate, and D3A Val. Fighters such as the A6M Zero and F6F Hellcat manly dealt with other aircraft to protect the bombers and friendly surface ships. (Though, much like the X-Wing, the F6F had strike capability in the form of bombs and rockets, but less than comparable bombers of the time...)
You are using WW2 smfighters as examples, even then, despite how Interceptors are depicted, they usual have much bigger guns and projectiles that will tend to cause more damage than fighter craft, and maybe even attack craft. An AIM-54 used by a Interceptor is known for taking down 3-4 fighters alone. It's a 1000 pound missile that can travel up to Mach 5. You can grantee hitting the super structure of a Capital ship, in real life, would cause serious damage. Anyway, Interceptors back in WW2 tended to have more cannons than fighters, and that can damage parts of the superstructure of capital ships, including especially the Bridge.
Kevin Norris except the F4U Corsair has better air-to-Air capabilities than an F6F and, towards the end of the war, had a bomb capacity almost as much as a B17...
I think part of the reason he is critical of this lack of capacity to engage capital ships is because the Venator really depended upon its complement of fighters and such to engage other capital ships. If too any of its ships are not capable of doing this, it would imply a serious weakness in the Venator's ability to stand as a fleet carrier or a ship of the line. Still, I agree with you that in itself, the ability to only engage enemy fighters is not a flaw, but a limitation that follows upon specialization. And given that the Venator has a fairly large number of ships available as well as a number of ship mounted anti-ship weapons, even if only half of its air wing would effective against enemy capital ships, I do not see this as really a problem.
Here's a thought: What if the lack of a support system built-in the ship (either ETA 2, V-wing or TIE) and the need for the pilot to wear his own life-support suit was motivated by the threat of the Buzz Droids being able to cause the cockpit to decompress and vent? If the pilot's life-support is independent from the integrity of the ship, wouldn't that allow to counter a very real problem, as the pilot wouldn't have to worry about suiting up while in a dogfight if his craft gets damaged. I'm guessing quite a few X-wing pilots met a grisly end when their lungs were sucked out of their throat by the sudden decompression of their cockpit after what could have been a grazing shot from a TIE.
less air causes the body to produce more red blod cells, allowing someone to temporarly be able to get more air to their muscleswhen they in a normar environment! its called altitude training!
Shields. Always shields. Better to have regenerative ablative armor than a bit more maneuverability. No matter how good of a pilot you are, you *will* eventually get hit. It's just a matter of time, and if you're made of cardboard, spit, and misplaced optimism, it'll cost you your life. A few extra pounds is only very, very rarely going to make the difference between a shot landing and a shot missing, and if it does land, you'll be damned glad of that shield. It's not as if just the one is going to blow you out of the sky, unless it's a turbolaser barrage, in which case you're just an unlucky sod who waltzed into a planetary defense grid.

Between this and the V-Wing I think the rebels could have saved resources just making sure systems and weapons were up to date and riding out those two mentioned into victory over the pathetic Tie's vs creating an entirely new ship; x-wing.
The Rebel has less pilots than the Empire, so it will be better they use X wing and Y wing combo, supported by V wing instead of buying new A wings. V wing has astromech droid as well while A wing does not.

@Iron Hands Terminator they replaced a droid starfighter with shields and heavy laser cannons ( see star wars starfighter) and the units were cheap yes but lacked the ability to patrol large areas effectively.
The ETA was underpowered, undergunned, underarmoured, and underdesigned. It was the penultimate example of what happens when your Republic procurement officer falls asleep on the big pile of bribes he just got.
to fair its kinda sportcars to ties small toyota sedans, it has very small but very powefull engine only beaten by mighty tie defenders and a wing and reasonably armed to get the job done but damn the price tag are complete rip off only jedi orders could truly afford this luxury basically as office car.

I disagree. It was faster, more maneuverable, better armed with longer range and more powerful and versitile weaponry than the V 19 it replaced. Additionally, the clones version had shields and (more) armor, it was the jedi cut down version that put in an astromech and removed armour panels and shield systems for more speed. NOT the empire. Also it was an after the fact realization they couldn't fit R2 in the ship and wanted him in the scenes on the providence class and in some scenes you can see that they just stuck his little legs out the bottom and hoped no one would notice it wasn't actually big enough to fit R2
The Delta 7B Aethersprite-Class Light Interceptor was like a combination of the two. Essentially, it had the general shape and firepower of the Delta 7, and the astromech socket of the ETA-2. Still no hyperdrive though.
Aside from the range of the Buzzdroid missile's dispersal range, the main advantage for the separatists was that Palpatine (under the guise of Darth Sidious) have them the tech specifications of all the GAR fighters, which is how the Buzzdroids knew right away which parts were the most vulnerable, which was why Obi-Wan's fighter was so quickly affected by the Buzzdroids during the battle of Coruscant.
Despite all its flaws, I still love this ship. If used correctly it can be a very deadly fighter. While having to deal with a hyper ring isn't ideal, its still works well enough.
As much as I like the Republic era fighters and ships you are doing can you do the A-wing next I don't care if it's ten flaws with the A-wing or ten reasons the A-wing is a great interceptor.
Considering the lesser amount of sensor suites and torpedo tubes, then even with the empty midsection in front of the cockpit a skilled mechanic (Pelli Motto, for example) could retrofit one of these with shields and hyperdrive from an A-Wing while also fixing the heat problem. I think Palpatine, having been very close with the Seinar execs, had a hand in this fighter not being at its peak potential. The ship is only a meter shorter than the A-Wing, after all! It still wouldn’t be able to take on a capital ship, but with a Jedi at the controls it would be absolutely unbeatable in a dogfight!
In theme with this episode, how about 10 Flaws/Praises concerning the TriDroid, RZ-1 A-Wing, and TIE Interceptor? I’d add in the Sequel Trilogy equivalents, but so far we’ve yet to see a First Order Interceptor and most of the RZ-2 A-Wings were mercilessly destroyed without so much as a chance to fight.

I think we need to consider the fact that this is an INTERCEPTOR. It is like blaming a pistol lacking long range sniping ability and sustaining continuous fire support would be considered an nonsense.
If the concept of interceptor does not work (flying off quickly and shooting down enemy aircrafts closing in fruendly base of fleet. No need to fly ti far distance and fight in the air for long time with tons of ammunition. Quick fly-off andsingle attack salvo), then it is not the plane that satisfies the concept well to be blamed, it is the concept or doctrine that should be criticized.
See I've never believed that they had 192 ectis class fighters in a Venator. A handful for the Jedi maybe but to me having the V19 V wing and Y wing would've been a good balance I think for the republic. That's just what I think.
If you take Saxton's riddiculous numbers seriously you could make a stack alternating between Etas and V-Wings to jam pack a venator. (You shouldn't take those numbers seriously, it should be 192 of EITHER, not 192 of EACH.)
I would combine the best qualities of this ship with those of the special forces TIE fighter used by the First Order. The special forces TIE had an integrated hyperdrive and a mag pulse launcher.
If palpetine was getting a fleet ready for the yuzhang vong, they didn't need shields, they needed maneuverability, I think this is a big factor for no shields on later empire fighters
2:02 I know some statistics can be read in certain books, but we literally never see any Actis fighters station on or deployed from any Republic ship or installation unless there is a corresponding Jedi to accompany it. These were simply Jedi starfighters and there is clearly some writing inconsistency regarding ships fighter wings.

I honestly think someone in Star Wars messed up & named two ships "V", which they kinda fixed by calling one a fighter & the other an interceptor. The N64 version with it's boost engines is considered the interceptor.
@@jonumine6250 Doesn't that kind of fit in with the theme of the Late Republic/Empire using underpowered vehicles in swarms compared to the Rebel/New Republic giving their fighter craft and crews priority.

I actually think that if the TIE were deployed according to the design of the craft... then it would be a surprisingly effective craft. It was definitely meant for with Clones in mind because the ease to replace the pilot compared to recruiting.
That's true, thought if they were operated like late WW2 carrier aircraft they would already be in position when the rebels attacked. The main problem with the TIE fighter is that you don't seem to be able to fly it until someone says "launch fighters!"

Hey LaRone, how are you and the guys doing? Is Brightwater still collecting knickknacks? I really hope they find a way to put you guys on the big screen. ♥️
Not really. The tech differences, is a big issue. In the lore, the TIE Fighter is considered the equal to the X-Wing, and it is considered one of the best fighters ever.
@@salmanmahyuddin8384 The BTL-A4 Y-Wing is ether extreme late Clone Wars era tech or Imperial era tech, as Imperials ironically still use it and some use X-Wings. But ether way, the A4 is actually as fast as the X-Wing and Gold Squadron had some that were just as maunverable. They are the only variations with Heavy Laser Cannons. I would actually take an A4 over the X-Wing as it is more of a heavy fighter Interceptor than a Bomber unlike the BTL-B or BTL-S3.
Looks like its from the ROTS Incredible Cross Sections book. that's also where their Venator and ARC-170 schematics come from, among other images from other books. Have them, myself. Think they're in a box atm...

#11 The radiator fins, when deployed, block some sideways visibility [*cough cough… Tie fighter]. If they had extended further than 90°, say between 120 and 150° they still would have provided cooling ability without sacrificing field of view. Or even 180° on the top and less of the bottom, where the wing blocks vision anyway. Off topic, but equipping the Tie fighter with radiator fins in the style of the ARC-170, or at least parallel to the pilot instead of perpendicular would have solved it's single greatest flaw. They could have folded upright when docked or stored to minimise space as well.
Hey I just wanna ask this question for clarification. The S-foils are useful even in space, right? Because Allen keeps saying they don't work in space because there is no air to conduct the heat although heat can also be transfered by radiation.
I’d like to hear an official explanation as to how that R2 unit fits in there. Some say the droid “compressed” but I don’t buy it. At best the left and right feet may fold outwards within the wing to lower the droid profile. There even looks to be a hinge on the lower leg that allows it
So...how does size translate to being nimble in space? Would not it be batter to make hugely powerful engine that can be directional focused, you have massive energy for weapons, shields and pure speed.
An interceptor isn't meant to take on capital ships. Interceptors are meant to intercept (hence the name) enemy fighter craft so they don't destroy your bombers or assault fighters before they can get to enemy capital ships. They're supposed to be light weight, manoeuvrable and fast. Most interceptors had little, if any shielding. Plus, there was a variant that came with shields and better armour. Also, the TIE fighter isn't the only successor to the ETA 2. There was an A-Wing variant in the Legacy era novels called the ETA 5.
It's called "Interceptor".

It was probably stolen then.
I honestly think someone in Star Wars messed up & named two ships "V", which they kinda fixed by calling one a fighter & the other an interceptor. The N64 version with it's boost engines is considered the interceptor.
The V-wing from Rogue Squadron is an airspeeder, the Clone Wars V-Wing was a starfighter
@@nickagalidis1845 Ah.
@@jonumine6250 Doesn't that kind of fit in with the theme of the Late Republic/Empire using underpowered vehicles in swarms compared to the Rebel/New Republic giving their fighter craft and crews priority.
When are you going to do the B-wing rebel fighter review and all it’s building design?
Nice Vid.
Will you do the V-Wing too?
I love the look of this craft. It is a pity there isn't any model kits for it. But its eta sprite has 2 kits.Anyone know if there was a kit for this craft?
It’s not ETA (like the acronym for estimated time of arrival) but eta as in the Greek letter eta.
My favorite ship
In the future can you do a video about the flaws/features of astromech droids?
I actually think that if the TIE were deployed according to the design of the craft... then it would be a surprisingly effective craft. It was definitely meant for with Clones in mind because the ease to replace the pilot compared to recruiting.
That's true, thought if they were operated like late WW2 carrier aircraft they would already be in position when the rebels attacked. The main problem with the TIE fighter is that you don't seem to be able to fly it until someone says "launch fighters!"
At that point why even have a medic, just program a Ai ace and cut out life support,
@@bellmaster4088 There was actually a whole book in the Old Legends that talked about the realization among some commandos that there was no additional medical care if the medic could not save a clone. There is actually a reason that there are not millions of crippled clones wondering the galaxy....
As far as the droid brain fighter... Ecks covered that... for some reason in Star Wars, and outside of one example, organics are just better pilots. meh it's a poor excuse but it is the source excuse.
Drinking Game!
Every time Alan says "ETA Actus 2".
Take a shot.
Lol.
This has got to be one of the coolest looking ships in all of Star Wars in my opinion.
Favourite model in all of Star Wars
Hey LaRone, how are you and the guys doing? Is Brightwater still collecting knickknacks? I really hope they find a way to put you guys on the big screen. ♥️
Notification squad has arrived!
you guys should do a video on the detla 7 the v wing and the z95 headhunter
Honestly, If the Rebel’s got their hands on all these Republic fighters, the Empire would have gone down faster.
I would still take an swing over it
A wing
Well they got the Y-Wings and it's old tech is super effective. But I think the X-Wings are better options
You said ETA Actis 2 so many times it started to sound funny
10 good features of the Tie Striker!
I have one question for the manufacturers of these ships; where would the heat disperse? There is no medium to disperse heat into
10 flaws/ 10 features about the v-wing starfighter.
Can you do one on the headhunter
Love the vids keep it up
Do a video about drugs and medicines in star wars. Love your vids.
Where did you get the schematics
I think it's from a guide book
Looks like its from the ROTS Incredible Cross Sections book. that's also where their Venator and ARC-170 schematics come from, among other images from other books. Have them, myself. Think they're in a box atm...
Thanks
@@crgkevin6542 where will you find it
You should do a 10 flaws video with the T-6 Jedi Shuttle.
You should do a video on the ebonhawk it has a crew of 1 - 3 a class 1 hyperdrive and is classified as a fighter
You could make a drinking game from this video, every time he says "Eta Actis 2" take a drink of something and see if you make it to the end still conscious.
Could you do 10 flaws with the executer superstar destroyer
Hopefully we get to see more of the ETA 2 in the new season of SWTCW
Says micro-USB, shows USB-C
It's called micro usb c. So a micro usb. Just the newer version of it.
4:28 Discord missile. not "buzz droid" missile.
When are you going to do another Species explained?
Do everything right about the Tri fighter it’s very good and fits its role as a interceptor VERY WELL
Please make 10 flaws with the Mon Calamari and 10 flaws with the A wing.
oddly my favorite snub fighter of the prequels.
Hey I just wanna ask this question for clarification. The S-foils are useful even in space, right? Because Allen keeps saying they don't work in space because there is no air to conduct the heat although heat can also be transfered by radiation.
radiators do work in space, it's just that radiation is a slower way of dissapating heat than convection.
All the more reasons to have S-foils. Although, liquid coolant is also considerable
I’d like to hear an official explanation as to how that R2 unit fits in there. Some say the droid “compressed” but I don’t buy it. At best the left and right feet may fold outwards within the wing to lower the droid profile. There even looks to be a hinge on the lower leg that allows it
If possible, do the Headhunter next or the TIE Defender
Well this is great
So...how does size translate to being nimble in space?
