- Dateline Philippines: A former Supreme Court spokesperson says that the House Committee on Justice has the option not to hear the impeachment complaint against Justice Marvic Leonen if it does not find any merit to the case. Attorney Theodore Te also believes pushing through with the proceedings may set a precedent that would impact not just Leonen but the entire Supreme Court.

SALNs are created by government officials, and should be completed by themselves. CJ Corona's SALN is NOT made by ex-President Noynoy Aquino and Former Supreme Court Justice Sereno. The reason why CJ Corona was removed from office is because HE LIED on what HE WROTE on his SALN. Please don't proliferate fake news for your personal and political agendas.

Not pursuing impeachment and not removing him will all the more destroy the credibility of the entire Supreme Court . Many Filipinos are waiting for justice for their cases lodge in the Supreme Court , but here is one justice- Leonen- who is idly sitting down and doing nothing and simply letting the years pass by. I believe LEONEN mUST BE DISMISSED.

Its because the other issue was on the failure to write full blown decisions within 24 months. If maiimpeach si leonen on that ground then majority of the justices of the Supreme Court may be impeached for the same reason kasi marami din sa kanila ang hindi nakafollow niyan.

It send signal to the Court to do their job. They are not being paid just to sit on cases for ages. Now at least people are aware what kind of Judge he is. Remember Corona? Did they decide according to merit or vendictiveness.

The initial control is at the House Committee on Justice who reviews the complaint & determines if there is sufficient ground to proceed. @nd control point is the 1/3 of Congress should approve the process to move to Senate for final resolution. Of course, there is a chance of abuse in the system as it is man made and can be overridden by collusion.
We cannot allow one "suspiciously prejudiced" Associate Justice to tarnish the integrity and reputation of the SC. It s better to go through the process and resolve the issue in a constitutionally stipulated manner. The SC as an institution will always be tested and should survive if it can be proven that there is no graft & corruption and its integrity is intact.
Toleration ,incompetence , non-filing of SALN ?just clear these issues for him. No one is above the law.

@@wowmawc It's maybe tamad. Most cases reaching the Supreme Court are appeals from the lowet courts. They're already decided but the accused that got an unfavorable decision appealed the decision thus the case is elevated to the SC hoping that the decision is overturned. So, all facts of the case are there. So when a SC justice defers decision for an unreasonable time it is either he is awaiting for a bonanza for a luxurious retirement or just plain tamad to do his job. In Leonen's case, I think it's both.
This former spokesperson of tbe SC always talk nonsense - If there's a ground for impeachment then so be it and if there's none then put it in the trash plain and simple.

Leonen, for holding so many complaints that he did not process is against the law. He is not or did not protect does complainants.
Leonen violated not only once but many times by not filing his saln for so many years and an indolent associate justice for no decision in many cases. He is very incompetent coz he is inexperience in trial court.

Kaya hindi nagiimprove ang justice system naten dahil sa mga gantong bagay e. Dapat maging mature enough sila para tumanggap ng mga kritisismo. Take it as constructive criticism, kesa sasabihin na attack sa judicial independence at kung ano ano pa..
Papano magiimprove ang systema naten kung ang simpleng pagpuna na ganto eh di niyo tatanggapin na parte lang ng proseso.

uphold the law. Let justice be served and roll. If leonen committed of breaking the law, for non compliance of, filing of SALN...therefore, he broke law. If you have broken the law, it has a corresponding penalty...and this is what we are going to wait for....to be or not to be... removed from the magistrate.

It’s too sad and too embarrassing for the Filipino people to know that SC acts as a collegial body by cohorting to one another. Protecting one another should not be a policy for SC. The President should be reminded that any appointment for the highest court should be done very carefully. The recommending body to the President should follow strictly the rules and requisites for any Associate Justice position. There should not be exemptions.Every candidate should comply to rules and regulations. If SALNs are required, so be it.

I think it's time to revamp the Department of Justice for people to know who have moral and intellectual integrity. People always have the right to exercise their Constitutional right.
While not everyone is conversant with legal issues, we are convinced that there are wrongdoings by Mr. Leonen as Associate Justice. Therefore, the Supreme Court is unsuitable to him because his integrity is questionable.
In my opinion these supposedly bad apple,will affect the image of the SC.I hope this case will go thru and will serve as a wake up call that no one is above the law especially the respondent is a high official of the court

The Chilling Effect here is that the SC would no longer be an Independent Co-Equal Branch of the Government.
