    Interesting module but I think I'd put it in an 18HP (14 for the Coral + 4 for the PSU) mini rack and keep it away from the rest of my Eurorack system. It's a complete instrument on its own - just add an Arturia KeyStep and away you go! Can really hear the Plaits in it - in a good way!

    I've just got my oxi one and looking for a companion for it. This one is neat to at least get a bunch of timbres for the oxi as an entry into eurorack and it solves needing a drum or rhythm machine. It really is just a oscillator sized multi-timbral synth with effects and all. Having this as a start to eurorack makes it so afterward you can focus on a one voice oscillator and spend more on modulation to make that as cool as it can be, instead of trying to get a bunch of separate voices and only being able to make them sound more basic than the oxi coral by itself, and still spend like $1500. The Oxi One + Coral combo is like an alternative elektron box, kinda cool.
    Having said that... I've been really eyeing the taiga. Three independent oscillators, wavefolding, unique pgh filter, and more modulation. But less voices and no cool engines and almost twice the cost. Damn sexy, too. Decisions, decisions.

    Thanks for the thorough exploration. I always love your approach. This module is fairly interesting, but the sound quality (especially in the multitimbral mode) really takes a hit. It got very thin, and felt like there was even zippering on some of the parameter adjustments. So for me, it felt more like quantity than quality, and especially when I saw the price. $500 for something that’s sort of finished, and sort of sounds good… I don’t know… even with polyphony, it feels like it’s priced too high. Probably not for me. That being said though, I think it’s great that the designer is trying to push the limits a bit, and I am very thankful that you took a fair approach to how you showcased it.

    I bought the Coral, and so far I like it. I plan to use the Per|former to sequence it via midi. But I will find it troubling if too many things keep coming out that take the "easy" route and just inherit the Plaits sound engines. Unless efforts are made to create tweaked versions with distinctly different options for sound/timbre.

    How it sounds when delevering big fat basslines ?
    I know it is a digital synth but for me to purchase it I'm thinking to sell my Monologue Korg (just to big for just a bassline) .
    I like the fact it is multitimbral ; it could be my third multitimbral synth but I noticed that normally multitimbal synth has some quirks with bass because it just eats volume from the other parts.
    Just asking .

    14:45 I think you did change the engine on a specific voice, and then because of the TRU algorythm, this engine pop up "randomly". I did mess up a bit with it too, and I feel (for now) its hard to debug it and going back. So yeah, turning it off is probably the fastest way to get rid of that :)

      @@MoltenMusicTechwell actually, due to the presets memory, maybe the modular module that comes closer to Coral is Pianophonic , yes.
      By the way while Pianophonic got hundreds of presets , the Coral got just 10 and just for this reason I would use coral as a Monotimbral synth for one patch/part at time or actually no more than 2/3 parts for cross-modulation between parts. Few parts are totally ok given the size of such a module 😮.

      Its a great thing for people who play shows and need a portable solution that doesn't require a lot of patching etc. But then again, just buy a polysynth if that's the case. There's cheap enough ones too.

      Not really. Each voice has it's own filter and architecture so it's 8-voice polyphonic. It also has monophonic and unison modes where you can stack the oscillators like most synths.

Maybe the module for those that want a DSI style polysynth in their rack? Why on Earth anyone would want this is lost on me! Just buy a polysynth if this is what you want. I'm thinking of Jeff Goldblum's quote from Jurassic Park :D

    • @MoltenMusicTech
      @MoltenMusicTech  Год назад +1

      It is and it isn't. We now have plenty of synths that drop into Eurorack - from the Deckard's Voice to the Erebus, West Pest, M-32, Neutron etc - so having synth voices is not uncommon. Even Doepfer do a full synth voice and a polyphonic analogue oscillator. I've used the Polycinematic for chord hits in performance, and people use the "Chord" on the Plaits a lot for that kind of thing. So while i absolutely get your reaction to the non-modularness of it, it does have its uses.

    • @PantaFlux
      @PantaFlux Год назад +3

      I completely see your point. But then there are stupid people like me who have two non-Eurorack semi-modulars (MatrixBrute and BARP 2600) plus an OXI ONE as my hardware sequencer, and who just start to meander into Eurorack with a Pamela’s and the OXI Coral as my only two modules. For me this works fine as a starting point without having to research (and buy) lots of modules just to get some sounds out of it not to mention with this this versatility.
