Brilliant! I love this!! It encapsulates the tension that many women feel between functionality, intellect and the creative side. We cannot have idealism or ideological politics if we crush our creativity.
My nylon backpack is probably my fav bag i own, and thats not only because its really practical and simple, but also because it is such a staple in Prada and overall fashion evolution.I was always looking up to Miuccia for all the reasons you've mentioned.Great video
I’m surprised by the fact that she’s always chosen politics over designing. She’s definitely more of a business woman, than designer in my opinion, YET that doesn’t downplay some amazing collections from her! I haven’t been a massive fan of the Raf shows at Prada, because they just felt like rehashes of his previous work; however, I think there’s heavy room for improvement in their collaboration together.
I disagree, as a fashion designer myself she is my favorite. Very creative in a restrained way, subversive and corporate all in one. The way she uses unattractive archetypes to create desire is quite impressive. Is retrofuturism at its best, a deconstruction of ideas of beauty and modernity but being cold and postmodern at the same time. Is not the fantasy we often see from other designers but an exercise in the semiotic system of fashion and yet very chic.
thank u so much for this video! miuccia is my biggest idol...her unafraid political stands, that's what im here for! talking about politics... would you mind bringing some non-european design? thx ❤
Sadly, things that made Prada amazing before, the contradictions and dualities, challenging fashion by designing with things she hates, clothes having an important message - don’t happen anymore. It’s all about rehashing Prada signatures of the past. Prada needs to sell, yes I know that’s important, and it seems it is, but it’s not the Prada that was agenda setting and inspiring. And I’m not a hater - this is coming from a sad Prada fan (obsessive even) ever since her ‘98 collection came out.
The issue with that is that Prada had been on a steady commercial decline in the last decade. The Prada aesthetic that was popular in the 90s and 00s got pushed aside for Philo's aesthetic in the 10s.
would you mind showing us how to actually wear Prada? considering she tends to focus on staple pieces, how would a new generation wear her work without paying the price?
I’ve seen other comments about people “correcting” how you say epitome. You pronounce it eh peh tome, and others like myself pronounce it e pit oh me. Both ways are correct. People who don’t have a large experience with speaking to others from different backgrounds may not get that. I checked it out 10 years ago and it was confirmed both pronunciations are fine.
Thank you for this informative video! One question though: from which video did the snippet at the 13:08 mark come from? I'm very interested in knowing what Miuccia says there. Thanks a lot and more power to your channel!
I don't think wearing Prada is a political statement. She may have some reasoning behind her designs but the company is so huge that people will buy Prada just 'cause it's cool without knowing what her clothes "mean". If it were a small, relatively unknown brand then maybe, just maybe. Apart from that, I will always find funny how some extremely rich people fall in love with communism. Oh, the mishaps of the youth.
of course it is not a brand that insists on a political mindset alone. after all, everything was based on a company that was already doing well. despite everything, the intention here is interesting and remarkable regardless of how the future of the brand has gone. it is still a special a feature among other female designers. but as you said, its still a konglomerat so, they definetely have a different perspective now.
I'm kind of new to the whole fashion scene. Could you please elaborate on who you're referring to. Is it Kim Jones or Yoon Ahn (who I actually really like) or someone I apparently haven't even heard of?
well...where is the sister, coffee and dessert!? I am bored with people talking about designer‘s life story which I could wkipedia it, but I like the your entry point and perspective sincerely!

It is actually shocking on how being honest to true self is considered political

she truly is an idol in terms of design and political mindset. what exactly do you mean by non-european design? designers?
@@tubaavalon exactly! designers! maybe some latinoamerican, african or asian designers!

what our friend is saying here is that Prada never needed Simons to create the perfect blend of commerce and creativity....never.
