Halfway through the track starting with Old Stories is when the songs get REALLY deep I feel. Before then there is a more surface-level exploration of lighter and darker themes, but after that point, glory is found in the depths of evil and cruelty in the arms of light.
I would put this series in my top 10 fantasy fiction in the modern age. As we go deeper into the Abyss, we are more horrified, yet all the more entranced.

The torture is there to really show you just how fucked up things can get… but that torture is in contrast to a very pure and innocent child’s dream, and that chasing child’s dream is what takes up the vast majority of the screen time, not torture.
not gonna lie if the author would not sexualize or make annoying character traits in the beginning and instead focus on the world building and exploration it would be easy to recommend

Yeah. My feelings on Made in Abyss are very complicated by the author's weird tendencies. I feel like the anime would have been much better had they redacted all of that stuff. Its a genuine adventure show, we don't get many of those these days, so its a pity that the author is kind of a creep.
