Great vid! How much would you say you spent charging during your trip !?

Oh boy. traveled 518 miles and spent over $100 but I dont remember exact amounts. I'll dig around in the apps and see what I can find.

Hi Joe, Can you provide some stats on how far total you drove and how much time charging and how much time driving ?

    • @JosephHerzog
      @JosephHerzog  Год назад

Great question! That data is foggy since the trip was a while ago but estimates:
Stop in Gallipolis is usually an hour long
Stop at Joe Holland Hyundai also an hour (similar charge speeds to Gallipolis)
      Wytheville stop is 30 min
      Greensboro another 30 min
Goes without saying the time at each stop is intertwined charger performance which we all know can be inconsistent site to site.
So an 8 hour drive becomes about 11-12. Still doable in a day but also definitely a longer endeavor. All that said I look back on this trip fondly as I hit no snags and made it to my destination at a decent hour.

I have found it's not range anxiety but charger anxiety. I'll be very happy when Ford and Tesla allow supercharging

Yes! I took this trip mere days after Ford announced their plans to adopt NACS so I viewed every charging stop thru a different lens.

So when you say your charging speed is 100kW… is that per hour? Or is that in a different amount of time?

It is a snap shot in time. It will not remain at 100KW. It will taper as the vehicle approaches 80% SOC

      Short answer is yes.
So lets say your EV battery capacity is 100 Kilowatt Hours. And you pull up to a charger that charges at a speed of 100Kw. In a perfect world with no other variables (temperature, battery state of charge) that battery would charge from 0-100% in one hour.
Battery size (kWh) ÷ Charger power (kW) = Charging time (hours)
However, the battery can't accept full speed charging as it nears being full, hence why we saw the Circle K charger slow down after my battery hit 80% full.

    Good Video!
I was wondering where to best post this comment .. Does your truck have or have you found any bugs/glitches ? I'll share some that i've noticed.
    1. If you lock your truck using fordpass app , are you able to unlock using your keyfob ? Mine doesn't respond to keyfob fob if locked using app.
    2. If you open frunk using keyfob or button in cabin, are you able to close the frunk using the button in the frunk ? mine is hit or miss on this one
    3. I like to clear TRIP2 on the cluster everytime i charge the truck , Just to see how my millage is looking ( i normally only charge once a week) so i like to see week to week info.
I normally drive with the display on TRIP2.. Whenever i do this, i noticed that when i shutdown the truck at the end of a drive.. the truck displays the "this TRIP" (last trip) info.. but the info is wrong most of the time it will display wrong duration and miles drove.
    4. Listening to music over bluetooth, random interference is introduced when shifting to reverse and when the cameras come on, or interference comes in when AC changing fan speed .. its like whenever there is something changing on the screen this will randomly introduce interference to the music.

I've never encountered any of those. Mine are just that my auto up window on drivers side hasn't worked lately. But yes it's a quirky truck thus far for sure

Lightning competition alert: The Silverado EV work truck (price $78K) reviewed today gets an EPA-rated 450 miles. The distance from Cincinnati to Cary is about 510 miles.

I have so many opinions on the Silverado EV. That range is crazy good! However, the price tag is too high for me and that interior that you get for 77K is.... not super impressive to me. What are your thoughts?

@@JosephHerzog Good points. I totally agree. The non-commercial $52K Silverado with 300+/- range version will not be available until about a year from now. A concern I have is that Ford will introduce a 2024 Lightning with comparable specs.
