You just have to LISTEN to her voice-ignore the video. She's not called "The White Queen of Soul" for nothing. Watch her other videos where she sings all the backing female voices as well. Just such AN INCREDIBLE VOICE best female Artist to come out of the 80's in my view.

This song's lyrics are the sharpest blade of ice driven thru the breastbone and directly into the heart - its epic. And the editing in the video is world class. Annie, as always, delivers all the goods - the voice, the look, the performance - you don't get better than Annie Lennox as a frontperson for a band.

The Eurythmics were massively successful in Europe. It was only in the US that they had middling popularity. You’re correct that it was their innovative approach to both music and performance that made them impossible to categorize in the way that the US recording industry would have wanted at that time.

Sophie Muller directed this video - as well as 20 odd other videos for Eurythmics and Annie as a solo artist. She's brilliant, she did the entire Savage video album as well. I'm glad you're delving into Eurythmics, there's plenty of good songs out there, that for some reason few react to except the usual's like Sweet Dreams. They did the full soundtrack to the George Orwell 1984 film - a forgotten gem. Signature track is "sexcrime 1984" and worth a listen - a good example of early 80's synth which sounds very pop-like but has the usual Dave and Annie cool darkness added.

Eurythmics were hugely popular in the 1980s, thanks to their innovative videos in heavy rotation on MTV. It was some of the earliest technopop. BTW, it's just plain "Eurythmics," not "THE Eurythmics." Eurythmics means "the art of harmonious bodily movement especially through expressive timed movements in response to improvised music."
