Hi 👋 thank you for the kind comment! Good question🤔I've fabricated and welded acrylic sheet (usually the transparent stuff) but never tried welding an acrylic bathtub, not sure if they have some kind of coating on the surface which would make any thermosoftening plastic difficult to weld, surface repair technicians would typically be used on this type of issue. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Thanks again for the very kind comment 👍
I have a plastic door and a frame. When I played with the dog I fell backwards and the door lock latch took a piece of plastic frame out. So now door can be just pushed open, would be nice to know how to fix that
Hi, thank you for the kind comment! The scraper from the video is a bespoke made tool, I'm not sure you can buy them off the shelf, I haven't seen one yet. There's a link below on how to make the scraper, if that's not your thing I could make one for you 👍 I would have to order the material to make it. ruclips.net/video/foiB_TJXs4k/видео.html
this is inspiring! one question though (at the risk of asking your to ruin your newly repaired frame - Have you done a joint and cut it on the bias to show the thickness of the filler and the integrity of the weld? Regardless, this is a really nice job... especially the use of a solvent wipe to 'unify' the repair. Thanks again!
Interesting. I'm a window and door fitter, could the torch weld dpm? Many of the flush threshold patio doors I fit require a purpose made damp tray up the back on the inside and overlapped in the corners as the doors breach damp course. If it was possible to weld the dpm sheets in the corners that would be belt and braces.. thanks
Hi biggest dickus, I've never tried welding dpm, it's a bit thin and the heat would probably burn through it pretty quickly, you could try turning the heat down low maybe that would work
Hi, the welding gun is a Leister Triac ST, the filler rod you can get online, a good quality brand is Simona. thanks for watching & thanks for the comment 👍
@@allkraftdesign6120 Hi thanks for for such a quick reply, can you tell me the ideal temperature for welding pvc as I understand that to high just burns the plastic? As you can see I'm 1st time thinking of repairing! 👍
Hi, no probs! It's around 280°C, you can test your temperature on the end of a stick of filler rod, if the rod burns rapid turn the temperature down a bit, you should be able to hold the heat gun on the rod for a couple of seconds before it starts to go brown, hope that's helpful!
Hi, a heat gun might work if you can get a high enough temperature from it, you will need to get an attachment nozzle for the end as well, hope that helps
Hi, thanks for the message, the heat gun method in the video wouldn't work on pvc trim because it's more of an expanded style pvc with a smooth shiny cover. A family member of mine does surface repair, he would fill it, rub down flush and spray it but that might be more trouble than just changing for a new peice of trim. Hope that's a little helpful!
Hi👋 Yes will definitely work, if the windows are PVC material they will be weldable, the U stands for un-plasticized, meaning the PVC is solid and not flexible. Hope that's helpful! Message if you need anymore info. Thanks
@dgrouche1676 hi, yes there is various colours of welding rod's, I'm not sure about specific shades of a colour. The welding rod from the video wasn't a perfect match but after wiping over with the PVC Solvent it seemed to blend in quite well, if it was possible to get some scrap window frame you can cut a small strip off and weld it in the same way.
Hi would this work on small screw holes on outside of upvc french doors. And where can you buy the torch and the plastic used to fill holes. My neighbour came round to help me as I’m disabled and use a wheelchair to fit the door hooks to keep them open but his eyesight was 4” out now have one high and one low clip my wife wasn’t impressed. not sure if you could help with advice I’m down south if that helps cheers steve
Hi, yes it should definitely work, the heat gun is a "leister ST triac" if you have a look about you should be able to purchase one from ebay, think they're around £300 brand new, il find a link for the weld rod and send it over 👍
Useless pointless video no voice over and I could repair that a quarter of the time it's simply filling a angle grinder supported on both sides try an edging strip repairs on a cill the same way.
Hi Steve 👋 thanks for the comment! repairing a crack/gap like the one in the video to the same quality finish in a quarter of the time, I would love to see that video. Thanks again for the kind comment. 👍
Fuckin hilarious. your lucky you didnt warp the frame with heat. frames dont get broken that way. lets see you fix one that got hit with a hammer during installation
Hi cintorr, thanks for the message, if you go to my channel and watch the beyond Repair video you see that fixing PVC thats been smashed with a hammer is really easy too.. Nice to meet you.. loving the language
Where can i get the white plastic from?thanks
This is brilliant, trying to figure out how to repair a cil with a chunk taken out and not much to support fillers
Hi, hope the video has helped, thanks for comment 👍
Excellent Video and great skill. Can this process be used on a modern acrylic bathtub with a hairline crack?

Is the pvc in the video "upvc" like the plastic moulding you find in home depot, or like an azek or versatex pvc trim ? Thanks
Hi, yes the material is upvc but not that low grade light weight stuff from DIY stores, not sure that stuff can be welded, hope that helps
where can i get that filler please
A tenant has burnt my window sill with an iron - how can this be repaired as only on top and sill not broken please?
where do i get these tools?
Yes, a useless video!

Can you patch a hole from hail using this technique?
Hi Andrew, you can repair most plastic issues using this technique 👍
Got any idea how to fix a dent in a vinyl window trim?

Do you know if the weld sticks are available in custom colors. Would they blend to match a manufacturers specific white?

At £300 for the "plastic welder" alone it's clearly more cost effective to get someone in to fix it

Hiya, can you tell me the name of the scraping tool you used? Tried various searches couldn't find anything similar...
Thanks!
Hi Steve, we usually make the scraping tool on a grinding stone from an erwin high speed steel blade, hope that helps.
Oh so it's custom made and can't be purchased?
Where in UK are you based?
Yes it's custom made, it takes maybe around 10 minutes or so to make on a stone grinder. I'm based in Birmingham.
Would you sell any?
Hi Steve, yes I can make some scrapers for you, that's no problem,
