Fun Fact: The times when traffic lights are useful are on junctions, (previously it was just on crossroads) When a car goes up to a junction it will automatically slow down. with a traffic light there, if it's green it won't slow down and just go straight through. The reason you haven't noticed is because you very rarely use crossroads which (as i have already mentioned) until now were the only times that traffic lights were useful.
From patch notes: "Three-way intersections now count properly as intersections and cars will slow down accordingly when passing through them. The fact that they did not before was a bug rather than an intentional design choice."
My Advice: When in an emergency, don't delete any roads, first connect the extra road/motorway to the existing roads and when the situation calmed down a bit, clean up afterwards.
I like you the most of all Mini Motorways players, it's really nice and highly entertaining seeing someone have fun with the game instead of only going for ultra high-scores and hard-core strategies. Keep it up man! :)
Love your video's! One tip: if a house is 'flashing' it means it's not connected to a shop of it's color. If you watch this closely you won't nearly miss as many of them.
In sweden, you yield to people coming from your right, including in t-junctions, but not if they're leaving a private driveway, so these junction rules make perfect sense!
RetroFlux has some good videos on this, both the patch itself and ideal uses - not plugging, it's educational to watch and improve Side note, the new t section patch rules completely ignore drives and specifically shop entrances
I was surprised today when I realized that I wasn't already subscribed! I was introduced to your channel with this series and I've been binge watching your content ever since. Great stuff!
Traffic lights are useful for places where the traffic crosses. The traffic lights are quite smart and give a lot of green. Traffic doesn't get stuck like in roundabouts.
You are absolutely right about the fact that cars wont slow down when they pass through another house's driveway (that free bit of road attached to every house). To take full advantage of this, when connecting houses, try to have the road pass through that tile attached to the house. Just one tile away and they will slow down. A little diversion to take advantage of this game mechanic will actually speed up a journey significantly. The same game mechanics also apply to the entrance/exit of the mall carparks. So when you have several roads converging on a car park, make sure that they all converge on the entrance/exit tab.
you can see if a supermarket needs more houses by looking to see if the houses currently connected to it have cars parked there. If they do, you don't need to connect more and can save those houses for other destinations, or just disconnect them to reduce junctions/traffic
RCE I love your videos! I’ve been binge watching all of them since I found your channel a week ago and all of your videos are amazing, keep making these beautiful pieces of art!
I’ve been binge watching your polybridge episodes for the past 3 hours, I didn’t even realise you’d uploaded something new 2 hours ago! Also, you keep saying that nobody calls you motorway Matt, however that is my go to when thinking about your name watching your videos!
perfect use of traffic lights at 10:23 : at the top right blue shops. Put lights there at the exit of the top blue shop and cars will barely ever slow down while passing by that shop, and the cars exiting are making right turns so they don't need a green light. this saves your game !!
Take a look at the houses to see if you have enough assigned to a particular point. If there are idle cars, you have enough and can reallocate some houses to another supermarket / imax.
Driveways from houses and aprons don’t slow down traffic if connected directly to the road, truck now is to have a single snake though all houses so they connect straight to the road and no one slows down 👍
You can tell when you get a lot of houses and bunch them together on a single road it causes a lot of congestion even with the colors being segregated. It probably would be better to make use of traffic lights and create more intersections.
It is time to start employing shared driveway entrances. Make neighbors share an intersection and reduce their number, which raises the street speed limit.
I have loved watching you do this so much I had to go and buy the game. Would have loved to see you attack the daily challenge that was only one of each upgrade and each week gave you just 20 road tiles.
In the beginning you said, over time the demand of supermarkets and cinemas goes up. Thats not quite true, even an imax cinema is happy with one house, it just has more space. :)
Fun fact: If you make a diagonal road, it’ll be long enough to count as a turn, which takes one less road than a standard turn as well as decreasing trip time.
Quite some time ago I worked as a production artist for an electronics manufacture. My job was to design P.C. boards. This was a few years before there was computer software to do this. By avoiding crossroads this is pretty much the exact same process. I always found it to be an interesting challenge. The main difference was as a commercial P.C. board, jumper wires (motorways) were forbidden, but I could move the I-Max Theater (components) if I couldn't find a direct connection solution.
Fun fact, didn’t know what map we were on but I’m learning Arabic and saw that the river has the name Dubai in it, “Dubai Creek” after further inspection, but thought that was fun that I can use the letters I’ve learned to figure out “real world” situations 😁
Fun crossroad fact: in poland in Łódź we actually have eight way crossroad. Its from XIX century so its to old to get rid of it. And yes its absolute nightmare
Houses directly connected to roads don't cause the intersection slowdown. It's only when you have at least one road between the house and the t-junction that the slowdown happens.
I wish they'd add a really technical update. Like being able to set up priorities, stop signs, 4 lane roads, one way roads. Stuff like that. I know the game is supposed to be simple but I would honestly love an update like that
I feel like over-segregating is the reason why you're running into "early death." Having some two-color systems for local traffic is acceptable to keep the route times down. I would use motorways primarily to extend the reach of two-color networks. Give it a try and see how you enjoy it.

And Beaverlord Matt. Everyone calls him that. Everyone.

Would probably be called big bridges instead
I thought they would be called Poly Bridge.

Always add bits of roads around the buildings.
Not on the first row of blocks, but on the 2nd.
That way you can always build roads between buildings.

The most unrealistic part of this game is that a road can be built and driven on in one day, no less a week! 1/10 no construction traffic 😆

You can use freeways as normal bridges.
