    I have one of the early Himalayan's to make it here to the US. Love it. Put a couple thousand miles on it in 3 months. I think honestly, without adding a bunch of aftermarket stuff, it just works out of the box. I'm adding a couple LED lights down low to assist seeing offroad in the dark, but having the ability to have the panniers for storage, I even use it for getting groceries. I keep rain gear in one along with a jacket in case it gets cool out at night and a few necessities like some water etc. I'm getting a set of locking rotopacks on the front racks, so I can hook 4 extra gallons of gas on there securely and that doubles my range offroad. I think the 250 is great for close in riding, but for any distance involved adventure, the Himalayan knocks it out of the part. Check out KarmaKaze Moto's ride from Seattle, Washington to Eagle River, Alaska. 2800 miles epic trip. ;)

      Yeah! The Himalayan is a really cool bike!
      If you’re doing long tarmac stretches, I think it’s better then the Rally, but of on the other hand you’re doing mostly off road, I rather be on the Rally.
      Planing on a 5.000k Off Road trip through Greece and the Balkans and I’ll definitely be on the Rally!
      Cheers! ; )~

      Check out the channel called itchy boots, that's a woman from Holland who is currently riding around the world on her Himalayan, that's what got me interested in this bike. So far it's so new here in the states that none are on the usual used site's, I can't afford a new one .

    Thanks guys, great video ! I've been riding my Himalayan to work every day and having fun at the weekends too. With or without luggage, unless you're trying to go fast or up long, steep hills, it seems to make virtually no difference to the performance. I might say it's even more stable on road with the panniers. In fact, it's behaving so well that I'm planning a round Europe trip later this year. Keep it up, guys.

    Have had the 250 Rally for since 2017 and it is bullet proof. Light, easy to maneuver, goes well over back roads and trail, but here in Canada we have some big country to cover and the 250 on the highway can be challenging. Pluses and minuses for everything I suppose. Good review. Beautiful country.

    • @RadRaven
      @RadRaven  6 лет назад +1

      Agree 100%! It is not a highway bike... you can survive some highway, but not really enjoy it... unfortunately, there are not many options for a bike that does off road and tarmac as well as the little Rally does...
      A CRF 500x Rally would be the dream! Only 9kg difference between engines... but a bike like that would disrupt Honda’s lineup sales, big time... so... I don’t have a lot of hopes of seeing one...
      We might see a CRF 450L Rally... but that engine makes no sense in an adventure bike...
      Cheers! ; )~

    • @bultacowally
      @bultacowally 5 лет назад

      The Honda and the Himalayan have about equal HP so what is your point??? 400 CC no good for highway either??? Ya know you don't have to run at 80 MPH all the time on the road...65 will suffice nicely and both bikes can maintain that easily. My XT 225 can even do that. Both U guys shouldn't even own small bikes if you have to ride at warp speed all the time...buy one of those huge heavy worthle$$ off road adventure tanks if you want to go fast. Leave the true dual sport bikes to the guys that enjoy them and appreciate them for what they are!!!

      You better take a look how "simple" that bike is on different motovlogers channels. Cause after theirs reviews I reconsider to buy one of them. Paint just wears off, plastics gets fragile and snaps off. Half of the bolts missing washers from the factory and they need constant retightening. So yeah, just make a homework before buying and then learn a drill to tighten all bolts once a while

    • @slakk5093
      @slakk5093 5 лет назад

      @@yannikoloff7659 yeah it's kind of rustic.. bit of locktite on those bolts and add some washers etc. Apparently the export BE4 is much better than previous models, and it's such a basic bike that it's not that hard to maintain yourself

    Nice vid, thanks! I'm personally swapping from an 800 cc, 200 kg GS to Rally. Major reasons being I never use the power in the GS and secondly I feel much more confident with about 40 kg less weight! Weight is something important, especially for small people like me. I fall sometimes because I ride a bit "brave" sometimes. And I prefer it with a Rally over GS.

    Thumbs up for a great review Guys.Owning a 1150 GSA and looking at a smaller bike to do a lap of Oz soon I'm seriously looking at the Himalayan. After test riding one for a couple of hours it dawned on me that the Himalayan is a "mini" 1150 GSA. A "mini" all rounder. Perfect for leisurely exploring the back roads my home ( Australia ).

      @@RadRaven Spot on. I've already done extensive touring on my wife's "adventurised" XT250 and touring small is much more relaxing and enjoyable. It gives you time to look around and the ability to check out that gnarly sidetrack that you wouldn't take the big girl down lol.
      The 250 Rally was also on my list but the only drawback for me is the small tank size for a country the size of Australia with often hundreds of kms between fuel stops in the outback. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

    Great Surprise, I was looking for some info about the "CRF 250 L / Rally " and i catch this great video with this review and was just amazing, the RE it's not my kind of bike, but I was very, very surprised with the good performance off-road, I was thinking that RE was more limited, but is not bad at all. In 2009, I bought a Yamaha xtz 660 Tenere and was my favorite bike ever, since i sold it in 2016 I got different bikes but i never got one like it.
    I think that will try the lightweight Honda CRF 250 Rally for my adventures, it's good enough for my basic skills.

    The Himalayan does liven up quite a bit more when you unplug the evap unit on the sump guard and of course you've got the power commander to add and with some more off-road suited tyres I bet the Himalayan would give the Honda a run for it's money as it was designed and built to cross the Himalayas...and that's friggin gnarly..I wouldn't want to do that on a 250 Honda ..I'm lucky enough to have both Honda and royal Enfield... what you do get with the Enfield is a great utilitarian bike that will carry a shed load of stuff safely from AtoB and it's proven it's worth time and time again.. I love both bikes , and yeah I use my Honda for single track and my Enfield for touring ...but the Enfield will do both . great vid.

      Ao ritmo que andei com a Himalayan, o ABS não me fez diferença nenhuma! E sinceramente, acho que naquela mota não é muito necessário que o ABS desligue... não foi desenhada para andar depressa em terra e muito menos a queimar travagens para entrar em curvas atravessado...
      Estamos a pensar fazer um comparativo entre a Versys 300 e a BMW GS310, mas já sabes à velocidade que as coisas acontecem em Portugal...

    Nice video. Excellent editing and good music choices. The Royal Enfield is a Mule. Like a KLR650 or a Harley Sportster. And to a certain extent, the Honda 250 Rally. I hope that you get a chance to ride another bike, which is not really an Enduro, the KTM 690 Enduro. Everything that you said about both of the bikes in this video is greatly intensified with the 690. Honestly, the 690 should be called an ‘adventure’ bike. Nice content an views of Portugal.

    • @RadRaven
      @RadRaven  5 лет назад

      Thanks mate!
      I’ve tried an old 690 and found it exaggeratedly powerful, uncomfortable and in a way, heavy... because although it’s lighter then the CRF 250 Rally, it feels heavier while riding.
      70hp is going to take a big toll on tire wear and I don’t know how to use half of those ponies... you achieve ridiculous speeds in less then nothing... and that just promotes recklessness... you just can’t help yourself on a bike like that!
      So for long trips, I don’t see it as a good option... but maybe that’s just me... their also known for not being super reliable, which what you need the most, when you’re out and about, a long way away from home...
      And for local rides, if you enjoy that kind of power, I think you’re probably better off with something lighter.
      Just my 2 cents...

    Rad Raven excelente canal. Gostava de ter a tua opinião. Para um INICIANTE no mundo das duas rodas e mais concretamente no mundo do Adventure/Off road, a CB 500x parece-me a opção certa.Mas a CRF 250 Rally e o seu ar "RAW" deixa-me de queixo caido :). Na prática quero ter uma mota confortável para um novato, para a voltinha de fim de semana e eventualmente para fazer casa trabalho quando me apetecer (estradas locais). Obrigado!

    • @RadRaven
      @RadRaven  5 лет назад +1

      Esse é o dilema que todos nós que queremos fazer aventura, temos...
      A CB 500X é uma mota muito versátil, mas não deixa de pesar quase 200kg... embora a baixa altura do acento, faz com que seja fácil de lidar.
      A CRF 250 Rally é uma mota que quase que nos ensina a andar fora de estrada... torna tudo mais fácil e perdoa muito, os erros... mas também tem varias carências... sendo talvez as mais relevantes, uma suspensão muito mole, e o motor limitado, para uso em estrada. E é também muito alta, o que pode dificultar a vida aos menos experientes.
      Tudo no mundo das motas de aventura é um compromisso!
      A CB 500X é mais competente em estrada, enquanto que a Rally é a minha escolha para off road, mas não deixa de ser agradável de usar em estradas nacionais... nas auto-estrada acabamos por ir com o motor completamente no limite... dá para andar, mas não é agradável.
      A CB 500X não vem equipada com rodas de raios, o que é imprescindível para uma utilização off road mais séria... e comprar umas rodas de raios, não sai nada barato!
      A única coisa que posso dizer com certezas, é que aprendi que vivo muito melhor com a falta de motor, do que com peso excessivo! E como tal, hoje em dia, tudo o que meta off road, eu vou de CRF 250 Rally! Mas a excepção certamente aparecerá, para confirmar a regra.
      Espero que de algum modo este raciocínio te tenha ajudado.
      Abraço! ; )~

    Hey mate, great video. Just interested to know what bikes you've owned in the past? Have you had lots of more powerful road stuff? e.g. a naked 650

    • @RadRaven
      @RadRaven  5 лет назад +1

      Only naked bike I had was an unrestricted V-Max... is that powerful enough?!
      Currently also riding a Super Teneré 1200 ES.
      Look, the purpose of these bikes do not require a whole lot of power. You either get in the spirit, or you’ll be missing a more powerful engine... think of them as marathon runners. Not too fast, but they’ll get you around the world, if you want!
      With that said, I’ve never ridden so fast off road, as I am on the Rally. And yes I have owned Enduro bikes as well.
      Sure, the engine goes screaming all the way through... but that’s part of the fun they provide.
      Do I wish it had a more powerful engine?! Off course! That’s why I keep adding mods to it...
      Problem is, I don’t know of any other bike that lets me do what I do with this one, in as much comfort and confidence!
      Stay tuned! Mid September I’ll start publishing a series on a 16 day, 4,550km trip on the Rally, through The Balkans!
      Cheers! ; )~

    Se calhar a Rally devia sair com motor 400cc. Acho o motor um pouco limitado, para uma media, grande aventura. Da indiana, resta saber se oferece a fiabilidade que promete.
    Bom video, Raven, como sempre.

      Epá... não era 400... era o motor da CB 500X, que apenas pesa mais 9kg que o das CRF 250L/Rally... mas isso ia criar uma das melhores motas de sempre... o que significa que se deixavam de vender muitas 250, muitas Africa Twins e provavelmente mais uma quantas, por tabela... por isso, não é provável que aconteça... it's not good for business...
      O que eu cheguei à conclusão, é que vivo muito melhor com a falta de motor, do que com peso a mais... e ando maravilhado com a minha Rally!!!!
      Obrigado e abraço! ; )~

      @@RadRaven perfeitamente de acordo. Tal como nas bicicletas, o peso é o nosso pior adversário.

      Com motor 400cc a Honda disputa as principais competições de Rally ao redor do mundo, por tanto acho muito difícil vermos um dia uma CRF 400 homologada para uso urbano. Parabéns pelo excelente trabalho, acabou de ganhar mais um inscrito 😉

      Se você tem intenções de fazer muito off Road, vale sempre a pena meter um pneu mais dedicado a andar na terra!!!
      Eu gosto muito de Motoz! Mas tem um monte de opção por aí!
      Obrigado! Abraço!

    which is best for long ride?

    • @RadRaven
      @RadRaven  4 года назад

      Depends on how you like to ride...
      There is no simple answer to that question.
      You should try both and decide for yourself, which one puts a bigger smile on your face. That will be the one that will travel the nicest, for you!
      I opted for a CRF 250 Rally for my long off road travels, but I prefer a bigger bike, when I’m traveling on tarmac only.
      I really liked both bikes!!!
      Good luck on your quest!
