Lifesaving tutorial! Thank you so much, however I’m having issues after exporting the pictures from my iPhone to my sd card I’m having trouble viewing some images. Some transfer fine and others can’t be viewed on my pic or even on my iPhone when I click it from the sd card photos. Any ideas or suggestions?
This was tested only on an iPhone 11. I'm not sure why but here are some possibilities. Some pictures may not copy correctly. Example: Panorama pictures, Live photos or Burst pictures. If it isn't a good old JPG or standard photo type, the picture may only be viewable on the iPhone. John
I would first load a couple onto your PC/Mac and see if you can view them there. Keep in mind that your Canon camera has it's own file system with folders and subfolders so your Canon won't be able to view them if you just backed them up to an SD card. The Canon is looking for certain folders to view them. You need to take the working card (that has photos taken on the Canon) out of the Canon, look at the file system and folders and then try adding a couple of the photos to a folder containing photos. You'll have to use your PC or Mac to do this by copying pictures onto the PC/Mac and then copying them onto one of the photo folders on the Canon. Be careful you don't delete any of the folders on the Canon SD card or you will lose your pictures. John
Nope doesn't work unfortunatly. I tried SD card with "NTFS" and "exFat" both will not let me save the files. The "save" button is greyed out on my iPhone 14 Pro Max using original Apple Lightning to SD-Card reader. Pretty mad about Apple atm. Copied one pircture on the SD with my computer. iPhone shows it and says "read only". I tried moving the switch on the card reader adapter up and down. Both ways not allowing writing. Can it be that only Apple File System (APFS) formatted cards are working? I don't have a Mac...
I have an iPhone 14 (not the Pro Max). I just tested it again and it worked but there are a couple of nuances you need to follow: I'm using a Micro SD card inserted into a SD card adapter and the card is formatted ExFat. Here are the steps: Insert the micro SD card into the SD adapter and insert that into the Apple Lightning SD Card Reader. Unlock your iPhone. Insert the card reader into the iPhone. When you open Photos, Import appears on the lower right. Hit Select. Select all the photos and videos you want to export to the external card. Only choose one or two for testing. Select the Send To icon on the lower left. Important steps: Hit Save to Files. Now hit Back on the upper left. Now under Locations, select Untitled (this is what my SD card showed up as). Select the folder you want the files backed up to. Select Save. Wait until the spinning icon on the upper right stops spinning. It takes a while. The screen will go back to your photos. The files are now saved on your SD card. Good luck. I hope this helps. Please subscribe and hit like. John
I believe when you plug in the adapter with a card inside, you have the choice to take files from the micro SD card or to backup files to it. I don't have time to test it right now. Too many irons in the fire. I will be able to test this next week. I use an iPhone 11 so any testing will only apply to that iPhone.
I'm not sure I understand your comment. The video is only meant to do what the video is about. I have an iPhone 11 and it works in this way. I'm not sure about other models. John
Sorry, it seems to be hit or miss with everyone. I have an iPhone 11. It also might depend on what Micro SD card you are using. Make sure it is not write protected. John
1) To be honest, I don't know any longer. I made this video a long time ago and now I use PCloud to back up my iPhone photos. 2) Yes, it's readable by a Windows PC. John

I think Android allows you to see the data on your PC. Note that the iPhone does too. I would backup your files on the Android to your computer. I would start fresh on the iPhone. If you want to move everything from Android, check with the iPhone dealer on how to do this. John
Will I be able to transfer files from the file app on iPhone to a SD Card? I'm asking this question because I have some DS roms that I want to transfer to my SD Card to play on my Nintendo 3DS through Twilight Menu++.
Try a PC and then look at the files imported using File Explorer. See if the extension name is funky. I don't use an iPad so don't have a way to test this. John
Sorry, I only tested this with an iPhone 11. I don't know if it works on a 6. I think it would work with most micro SD cards but you need the micro to SD card adapter shown in the video. My SD card was 256 GB and 512 GB. John

You don't need a 4 in 1 or a micro SD to do that. Use the white Lightning to USB cable that came with your phone and connect your phone to your PC. iTunes may launch. If it does, Exit iTunes. The Apple branded one specifically says the photos cannot be downloaded to the sd card. So that’s why I’m watching these videos to see which one to get. Apple makes it so hard to save your photos.

Note: If you used a GoPro to format the card instead of your computer, these folders will be on it: DCIM Misc There may be other strange files as well from the GoPro. Don't delete those if you plan on using the card with your GoPro. Bonus Tip: I create a Notepad text file called "If Found Please Contact.txt" and put my contact information in the file just in case whoever finds it is a nice person. Now we can backup your Voice Memos. -Insert the Micro SD into the SD Adapter and then insert that into the iPhone Lightning SD Card Reader. -Insert the SD Card Reader into your iPHone (I only tested this on an iPHone 11). -Open Voice Memos -Click Edit at the top right and select the sound files you want to backup. -On the lower ledt, select the box with the arrow. -Select Save to Files. -You should see Untitled and folders under it that you created. -Select the folder you want to backup your files to and then select Save on the upper right. -All the selected files will be backed up to the Micro SD card. In your case, I don't know where your WAV files are. My Voice Memo files are all m4a files.
What I've been told is that if you use iMovie, even if you delete all the video projects, it still occupies all the space it had before you deleted your projects. You have to Delete the iMovie app and then reinstall it from the App Store. It takes a while to download and install so make sure you are on a fast WIFI. If you don't use iMovie but use some other movie app like Kinemaster, it may do the same thing. Otherwise, do a search on how to free up space. Maybe you have some other app taking up space. Also, to see how much space your apps are taking up, click Settings, General, iPhone Storage. That will show you which app(s) are taking up all your storage space. John
I'm not sure on this so follow up by doing some further searching: When you delete photos, and presumably videos, from the photos app they go into a 'Deleted' store. They stay in there for a period of time (30 days?) before getting permanently deleted. This is why you see no increase in available storage space immediately on deleting your files. You can access that 'Deleted' bin and delete everything straight away. I haven't done this for a while so please check further. The most annoying thing about the photos app in my opinion is that when photos are placed in albums the photos still stay in the 'All Photos' screen resulting in thousands of photos to page through when looking for something that has not been put in an album. I just can't see why Apple do it this way. Many online complain about this crazy system.
@@BD-bditw All I know is that if you are in a jam for space and do a lot of projects in iMovie and you deleted all the projects but you are still in a jam, get to a place with fast WIFI and delete the iMovie app and then reload it. All the space will come back immediately. Apple "does it their way..." John
After you delete photos and videos, you then have to go to the “recently deleted” album and delete them a second time before you see the storage added back onto your device.
@@muggymug Good point. I also see a storage issue with iMovie. When you delete all your projects, no space is recovered. If you remove iMovie from your iPhone, the space IS recovered. You then have to reinstall iMovie. I'll check my "recently deleted" album to see if maybe they are there. Thanks! John
Notes: The SD card can be formatted by your PC/MAC. Then create the folders you want on it. If this SD card was put into a GoPro and formatted by the GoPro, it has specific folders for the GoPro and should not be used to backup photos and videos from your iPhone. You can also use a free app called "Files" on the iPhone to create folders on the SD card. I found that on an SD card that I used the program Files to create folders on, I could not create folders on the card using my PC. John
Here's another comment that came in but I can't see it under my video:
Kay Bee Can this be done by simply inserting the micro sd card into the phone? I want to know if there’s an absolute need to buy the lightning cable…I know it can be done on a droid. Answer: No. The iPhone does not accept a micro SD card. You have to use the adapter and plug into the lightning connector. John
I do not know if this will work on an iPhone 6s. I have an iPhone 11. You can buy it from Amazon and try it. If it doesn't work, you should be able to return it and get your money back. John
So, let’s say that I already transferred photos and videos to the sd card. Once I do that, can I delete them from my iPhone’s photo gallery since they are already saved to the sd card?
Once your files are backed up on the SD card, you should be fine with deleting the files on the iPhone but it would be smart to check the SD card on a computer to make sure all the files are readable. John

I mean it just seems elementary that we would what to also export onto SD card from the iPhone. But, no, it's a challenge to find someone to just maybe state like, "BTW, if u r wondering if u can go in reverse - then [yes or no]. . But finally, after watching too many videos that were 6 to 10 mins that failed to even acknowledge that the two way scenario is a legit thought at best, and at least 3 videos that spent from 2.75 to 3.85 mins showing & telling how to take the SD camera card reader out of the packaging box (yes, I'm not exaggerating or blowing anything out of proportion) -- I'm just thrilled & grateful this fellow has this video for viewing because i was wondering if no such video could be found after hrs of searching -- would i cry at the madness of realizing my fellow Americans r have not only sold out to ignorance & to the CULTure of Deceit & Blame-shifting but have gone down the rabbit hole of the greatest & smartest that has ever been & probably will never be again or would i be so upset at the obvious loss of so many great minds that i might go blind from the rage..... So, what i think is missing is can data such as documents or folders of Notes or Voice Memos be exported from the File App to the SD card... but it's ok - someone saved a whole magnitude of disappointment by posting this wonderful video that Apple should already addressed in their product overview.... Thanks Bud & With All Respects & Concern.... And keep creating & posting - I'm sincerely grateful that u do.... Gregory Battles, Boone's Creek, Tenn

I would assume so but the adapter in the video only accepts SD cards or a card that fits in a SD adapter.
Did this but I am not able to see the photos on my canon camera
I would first load a couple onto your PC/Mac and see if you can view them there. Keep in mind that your Canon camera has it's own file system with folders and subfolders so your Canon won't be able to view them if you just backed them up to an SD card. The Canon is looking for certain folders to view them. Insert the micro SD card into the SD adapter and insert that into the Apple Lightning SD Card Reader.
Unlock your iPhone.
Insert the card reader into the iPhone.
When you open Photos, Import appears on the lower right.
Hit Select.
Select all the photos and videos you want to export to the external card. Only choose one or two for testing.
Select the Send To icon on the lower left.
Important steps:
Hit Save to Files.

Thanks for the video. How can I see from the iphone the files stored on the sd? Thanks.
I believe when you plug in the adapter with a card inside, you have the choice to take files from the micro SD card or to backup files to it. I don't have time to test it right now. Too many irons in the fire. I will be able to test this next week. I use an iPhone 11 so any testing will only apply to that iPhone.

Hi, 1) is there an option to select all photos and videos? And then transfer all of them to SD card?
2) Is this card readable by a windows pc
1) To be honest, I don't know any longer. I made this video a long time ago and now I use PCloud to back up my iPhone photos.
2) Yes, it's readable by a Windows PC.

Thank you to showing us how to store photos on memory cards.
I have one question, if I have lot of photos need to quick store, do you have another way to store more photos and quickly?
Maybe iCloud. You can also pay for a service like PCloud and then when you open the app, it automatically uploads your photos to PCloud. John
What to do if i have sd card in android and i want to shift to iphone?

I wonder if you could backup wav files in your SDcard reader ?
Do you mean sound recordings that you used the Voice Memos app to record? Here is how to backup those files...John
How to backup Voice Memos from the Voice Memos app:
Prerequisites:
-Be sure the Micro SD card is formatted and create folders you want on it using underscores instead of spaces.
These are the folders I created on my Micro SD card.
Sound_Files
AT_Videos_Pictures
-Create other folders as you want.
Note: If you used a GoPro to format the card instead of your computer, these folders will be on it:
DCIM
Misc
There may be other strange files as well from the GoPro. Don't delete those if you plan on using the card with your GoPro.
Bonus Tip:
I create a Notepad text file called "If Found Please Contact.txt" and put my contact information in the file just in case whoever finds it is a nice person.
Now we can backup your Voice Memos.
-Insert the Micro SD into the SD Adapter and then insert that into the iPhone Lightning SD Card Reader.
-Insert the SD Card Reader into your iPHone (I only tested this on an iPHone 11).
-Open Voice Memos
-Click Edit at the top right and select the sound files you want to backup.
💯💯Thanks much

Question so I been deleting video files and images but my storage still stays the same why is that?
Thanks! John
Does it also work from iPad to sd card ?
This was not tested on an iPad. If it has a lightening connector, it might work. No guarantees though. I used a iPhone 11. John
what if the folder doesn’t pop up on the files like the iphone to sd folder so i have to make a new one?
Notes:
The SD card can be formatted by your PC/MAC.
