Kevin was absolutely correct. Globally, cultures of colour put higher value on looking like a “Westerner” which basically means closer to a White ideal. In Caribbean/Latinx cultures, we have colourism or La Casta, which puts lighter skinned or people who meet a more White standard of beauty on top. This is a global issue that really needs to be talked about more between POC. I wish Kevin was allowed to talk more about it instead of it being diminished into a Kumbaya moment.

Ikr? I’m not sure about other latin american countries, but in Brazil, since most of our population is super mixed, racial perception is much more based on the color of your skin than blood, because almost everyone has white european, african and indigenous blood. I myself descend of all three on both my mom and my dad’s side. My mom is mostly white and my dad is mostly black, but I’m not perceived as biracial in Brazil, I’m perceived as white because I have a light skin tone, but I know I’d never be perceived as white in north america. The conversation about race is always super tricky, but it seems like it’s even more complicated for mixed people.
It's fine for him to talk about whatever he wants but at the end of the end he wasn't considering how it's impacting on the other dude who also feels his own level of discrimination - arguably from both sides.
This is why we need to move past race like Thomas Charteton Williams talks about.

I am half Arabic and half European well guess what : withe people said "your an arabic" " Arabic said your European " and my answer was I am human being with two different cultures so it doesn't make me less but plus vcause I get to know both side of the coin! And now I am married to a Chinese (HK) wonderful m3n for 25 years now with three kids looking exactly like him, nothing from my side came out on the physical aspect but they speak chinese, arabic, French, English.. We are not half we are complet Everyone is mixed you just have to check on a history book about the odysee of human race. European come from Indo-Europea, yes you read it well. We always have been a melting pot of ethnicities . So once again we are complet and we will respect each other because each of our singularities add something precious to the the patrimony of human beings
I can relate to Everett. I'm biracial (black, white and native american) as well and fitting in is based on who you surround yourself with. I never understood why people hate on people, in general, so much. It's all about what's on the inside. I think they're BOTH handsome, whether half Asian or full Asian. Guy, you're amazing! Wow, didn't expect that! Kevin really did go in on Everett. Watching the struggle of my own daughters, friends and other family who are multiracial really made me angry at Kevin for a quick minute. But then just like he even said about trying to see where that person is coming from, made me understand his point as well. Just hope they really did come to appreciate each others struggles and hopefully support each other. 😊

I just like everyone for who they are~I honestly don’t give a darn what color or “mix” or sex-and I grew up in a little, sheltered country town in NH. Lived in big cites too when I was older but I find the people who apparently struggle with so much~just humans-and I feel bad that they have these struggles. It’s a shame in this day and time that we all just can’t accept people for who they are. I think Guy is doing a lot to break that barrier. Some issues I admit I don’t fully understand-for example a young child is born a gender they feel the total opposite of-and my heart hurts for them but I again accept them for whatever they chose to be-end of story-why everyone is all up in arms over it baffles me...💗❤️💕

The weird thing I found is, it's Asian people who project this "white is right" outlook more than whites do nowadays when it comes to beauty standards. In it, he mentioned how while modeling in Singapore, he noticed this hierarchy and implicit bias where whites are viewed on the top, then half-Asian people, and lastly Asian people. Yes, Singapore, the Asian country with a majority Asian population. If you've ever been to other Asian countries as well like Japan, China, Korea, and the Philippines, this sentiment is also apparent there where you sometimes have the most random, off the street white people featured in advertisements there.
SO many Asian people have internalized racism and self hate to such a degree that people like Kevin Kreider are literal unicorns in terms of his awareness of this problem and courage to speak out about it. Meanwhile, many other Asians have a "This is fine" meme mindset. It's really sad.

We all have struggles. They may not be exactly the same or even on the same level, but I think our generation's problem is that we try to one up each other with our problems. When we do that, we're just focusing on our negatives instead of moving passed them and living to our fullest. I'm a girl with severe abuse and daddy issues but you wouldn't see that if you just met me. Why? Because I don't let it control me. I don't let the darkness cloud my judgement of the world and that radiates in the way I carry myself and treat others. I'm not going to tell a girl who had a loving father that she had an easier life than me because I couldn't possibly know that. It's not a competition. This world is screwed up and bad things happen to everyone, not just to a certain demographic. I do what makes me happy. Life has always got in the way of that, but I handle it like the strong woman I should be. Not like the weak person the rest of the world wants me to be.

Totally relate to dude. You’re too white to be Asian, too Asian to be white. It sucks. TBH it was worse in the 70-80s, but today not soo bad, but it’s still bad. At 47, Asians still freak out when they find out I’m half. It’s very hard to explain beyond how I have.

No one should ever feel they don’t belong. My half brother is 1/4 Asian Cos his mum is half Asian and my dad is mostly white but like 1/4 Italian. So we have A lot of white in us but it’s a mixture of English and other European countries. I don’t care what your colour your skin is or where you’re from. People shouldn’t hate you for what race you are or what you look like! We are all human and we just evolved a lil differently because of environmental factors and climate especially. The hotter areas people needed more melanin in their skin to protect them from the harsh suns uv and colder places didn’t need the darker skin tones so this is why we are all different in skin tones. It’s to do with vitamin d etc too. Anyway I loved this video so much. You are brilliant Guy 💜 I love what you talk about in your vids and of course love the hair and colours are amazing. Asians are smoking hot 🔥 🔥 🔥 wow them models are stunning especially with their gorgeous new hair colours and of course guy you are stunning as always 🔥☺️

Im mexican, indian, and white. But im really pale and burn under too much sun. But my siblings can tan and are naturally darker than me. You can tell they are more mix than i am. Genetics are really interesting.
It wasnt until i started talking about mexican food did others realized i wasnt just white.
You have to be twice enough of a race to be accept by that race. Its crazy.

Everyone, wether they are full white 1/2 white, or whatever race they are always are out casted by a ‘type’ or ‘class’ even if they fit in their own ‘type/class’ everyone has experienced it at some time or another or has seen it happen.
And as for being plus sized... I don’t consider her being plus size as she thought he was saying. The average American size is now a 14, not a 0! I would say she’s average. Not skin and bones but not a lot of extra :)

I think mixed asians but particularly the half white ones never want to fully admit their privilege because they only see the asian in themselves. but that just proves that in our society, the asian part is seen as the "problem". when kevin is saying he doesnt look like him, hes not saying that hes not "asian enough". hes saying that because he is half white, he has privileges that he as a full asian will never have. and theres a whole other layer here for adoptees specifically. we don't have asian families, we never had racial mirrors to look to unlike asian immigrants. even hapas have asian family members but we have none. we have nothing. nothing to make us feel comfortable in our own skin. as adoptees, we feel the lack of privilege much deeper than any other person of color. We look fully asian but feel the complete opposite inside. its a different and unique experience that forces you to hyperfocus on your race and come to terms with your extreme lack of privilege. kevin is just very validly pointing that out. but of course no one ever listens to adoptees. im kind of sick of hapas acting like they're the only ones who never feel "enough" when they fill the screen of hollywood and can go around and fit in with white people better than i ever will. try having a completely different race as every member of your family and see how it affects your psyche.
