I deciphered the jade Cretan Hieroglyphic inscription (only seen in the thumbnail?) several years ago. It is a warning to a neighbor, and says:
"I'm am watching you! I have seen you throw three stones and two sticks at my cat. If you mess with my cat again, I will cut off your head."

They where all looking for gold... We call them in Greece common thieves... Anglo Saxons common thieves...
There is no Indo-European languages. The Greek language needs thousands of years to reach such levels, and this is evident from the flexibility of the Greek language and its etymologies, the Greek language is a complex language and needs explanation, and it is not easy to grasp its meanings, the Greek language it gives us the cause and the effect.

In any decipherment of a script, one first needs to determine if it is alphabetic, syllabic or conceptual. Even hieroglyphs uses a similar format. As sealstones would be pictorial but syllabic especially as a qualifier noun ( name). From there a syllabic interpretation can be assessed. Of course, therein lies the problem of the pronunciation of such syllables as originally spoken. So assuming that h7mans will attempt the easiest possibility, the first person modifiers may be deciphered. Such as a symbol indicating (I) instead of the syllabic name. And from there to a second person reference of the first person ( Me) in many cases, this can lead to a combination of alphabetic and syllabic. The final difficulty comes with the conceptual. This has been inscribed as far back a Nineveh where the use of the word for a Date Palm was used to denote a water raising device. Much as in today’ idioms, we speak and contextually write of a mouse to mean a computer control device as proposed to a small furry rodent. Or as in the Chinese characters, the symbols for two women under one roof, is the symbol for trouble. If one can draw a parallel from a local pronunciation it is better, as has been used for the translation of Mayan hieroglyphs back to a spoken language. As from such usage, contextual usages can be derived. As can grammatical influences.

    Perhaps using chronology would help.
When did the Greeks come to Crete and from where? Indo European? No such thing. Its Proto Slavic that was used in Crete 7000 BC.Vinca script, Danube civilisation, was living in the Balkans and from Black Sea to the Baltics. I know it’s hard to turn the "truth" around and admit that Barbarians as Greeks called them, where the Civilization long, long, long before Greeks, Etruscans, Latins had any script .

Rent a car: we made to 26 sites/museums in 11 days. The most important sites besides Knossos are Malia, Sissi, Gournia, Petras (outside Sitia), Palaikastro, Phaistos and Hagia Triada, Tylissos, Diktaian Cave. If you have more time: there are a lot more sites. If you can get ahold of the Blue Guide, it has excellent info; also my book Aegean Art and Architecture. Most important museum is Herakleion.
