I haven’t had a show be so captivating like this in a while now. I felt like there were some questions left unanswered that I wish they would’ve wrapped up.
I loved this miniseries. Loved it. I don’t know how I stumbled upon it but am grateful I did. Casting, writing, and superb acting made every episode essential, every episode memorable. When Kim Riedle (“Lena”) cleverly lures Christian Beermann (“Lars”) to his death, it made for some mighty satisfying revenge. Mighty satisfying. I know life isn’t fair and this exemplary drama echoes that truth but the real tragedy here was Jonathan. That kid was awesome and he deserved a future as bright and wonderful as any child ever born.
I loved it and listened to the audiobook afterwards. There are some points different in the book. Much of it is the same but espacially why Papa kidnapped Lena and held this family captive has a better reason in the book I think.
I just finished watching and thought I'd look for reviews. Fantastic acting and story plausible enough to be disturbing. I thought the ending was perfect.
One of my favorite sequences in the show was after the mine scene when they police still haven’t found the boy and the lea woman police says something about her worry about the boy not being a victim of a another mine, and the very next shot is over head shot of Hannah wearing oversized crocks and the nurse walking into the group home. My heart skipped a beat. It was so simple but masterful, it made me wonder how far in advance that was planned or if it was one of those, “it happened in the editing room” things.
If I’d read what it was about before watching it I doubt I would have. Great acting and writing etc. I guess. Loved it, apart from the last episode which I thought wrapped up too quickly. I’d liked to have known more about the original Lena, how she died.
@@francessimmonds5784I was confused about the man they found disfigured. Now I remember who he was. I had been convinced the grandfather was somehow involved since she said she saw him before. Thanks
@@peggyohler5801I think it was implied that the grandfather abused his daughter and was the father of her child. That’s why she ran away. And it explains why the son was looking exactly like his father and was so f*cked up. Incest. Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree
The serial killer was a man who owned a security company. He fell in love with the original Lena when he came to unlock her door for her. There's no big plot twist or anything haha, it ended up being a guy that was only introduced at the end
Loved it! Glad I watched it :) definitely a bit convoluted (imo) and I had a little issue with the ending that I won’t say here but the ride there made it very much worth the watch. Between this and Silo are my biggest surprises of the year so far. Maybe One Piece too.
Great show and build up to a ..lame and uneventful ending. Captivating is a good word so I expected the ending to be more climactic. Would've been better if it was the detective or the psychiatrist as a surprise ending
I loved it. However I haven't watched any Netflix in months and very glad that it was short because I had that drawn on and on and on all it lost interest. But yes when it gets to the ending. As much as I hate the thought of anybody being mean to women or children I loved every stab she stabbed into his neck.
They didn’t develop lars as a character at all it felt. They introduced him at the last minute so I didn’t get to know him. Made it less satisfying for me
@@Nich_B23 I feel like we find out all we need to know. His teenage Mum left him with his grandparents, he was always in the shadow of his grandfather, never got over his mother leaving, had a secret crush on his client's daughter and a very sick and disgusting mind.
Good 🎥 , those 1st few episodes had me on the edge of my seat!! However the last episode was rushed as if they were running out of film time. But at the end, glad my important questions were answered
Spoiler alert: i felt like it was really slow moving with a lot of dragged out scenes. Basically SVU could have done the same story in an episode. It was interesting but still unanswered questions (what exactly happened to Sarah? Infants dont die of a maternal postpartum infection)
this show was amazing and yet it left me angry. This happens in real life and to think that somewhere a women was kidnapped and foreced in captibity not only breaks my heart but makes me so angry with the world. This world is so sick and these despicable kidnappers don't ever get justice for the pain they have caused or are still causing.
Story -9?? Thats a bit too much. They didn't even show the obvious question. WHY? Why the man did what he did and why the children are complying to that man. Are the children related to the man... No answers.. Very disappointed. May be i missed something. Somebody can reply to the comment.
He did it because his parents abandoned him as a child. And all he had was a picture of them as a family when he was a baby. N his mom was a spitting image of the original lena. He was trying to recreate the family he never had.
The children listened to him because the little girl was manipulating him. Playing his game. She led him to the lighthouse and gave her ‘mom’ the glass shard, leading to jasmine getting her revenge on the beach.
@@Nich_B23 I didn't see it that way. The girl was happy with her life before they ran away and was collaborating with the Dad to bring her "Lena" back. There are many hints that she isn't neurotypical, for example when she thinks every photo of a man including Tom Cruise is her Dad and her robot like narrating of facts. I do wonder what exactly happened at the beach - first we saw her sleeping in the car and only Jasmin and Lars walking into the dunes, then she's suddenly there in the water next to Jasmin.
I´ve read the book last year and since I did Romy Hausmann is one of my favorite authors. She is very talented and so likeable at the same time. One thing I absolutely deteste about the show tho, is that they made Jasmin straight. In the book she is bisexual and in a relationship with a women, so the rape scenes are even more cruel to go through as the reader. It just hits so hard and is extremely effective. I don´t know why they changed that in the show. Kinda disappointed about it. Great video and review, keep up the good work :)
This silly, redundant themed series, albeit some decent atmospheric cinematography, ( although boring and redundant as the series moved along),,basically sucked!! Why would you say the execution was fascinating, when indeed it was nothing special…. You may have been hooked, but me and mine certainly weren’t! how anyone could deduce this series was that something unique is beyond me! not to mention a confusing, all over the map writing and anticlimactic ending that made no given the build up. That said, the acting for the most part was excellent…..but that’s about it.
It sucked for me as well, most of it made no sense. Why was the father behaving like that, how could the kid have drawn her grandfather so accurately, why did the cop pretend not to recognize the head of security then call him by his name, why was he keeping the female cop in the dark when he was following Jasmin in the truck, how did the perp get into the hospital and Jasmin’s house, how did the grandfather not give a hoot about Jonathan ⁉️

too bad you didnt understand it. The father terribly missed his daughter Lina. The real Lina was an artist (they show her drawing in college/uni) so SHE drew the scene under the bed for Hannah. At one point the therapist says Kids can have false vivid imagination to cope. Gerd followed the van and said I dont have time to explain (it was also his original case for 13 years), the perp got in the house at the request of the father to change the locks (he must have been there at the right time to offer his services) Mr. Grass gave the new keys to Jasmin (the perp then installed cameras in the new apartment). Maybe the grandad felt more connected to Hannah because she looked so much like Lina, his daughter.
Did you actually pay attention to the series? They literally explained she looked like his mother who just disappeared one day. His whole thing was creating the perfect family, as psychotic as that sounds. I do agree that finding out who the kidnapper was was very underwhelming, and they should have made the kidnapper one of the characters we were keeping up with so that it would be more of a plot twist, more interesting. For example, I thought it was the grandpa because his reaction to being asked if he saw Hannah before was very weird.
